Week 8 – Rams @ Dolphins

The halfway point of the season, the Miami Dolphins 3-3 host the 5-2 LA Rams. It’s going to be very different for the 3-3 Dolphins because their veteran fun loving QB is no longer at the helm as he is replaced by rookie Tua Tagovailoa. There aren’t many parallels to find in the history of the NFL but I do recall Eli Manning replacing Kurt Warner in NY for the Giants in 2004. The NY Giants were 5-4 and after replacing Kurt Warner who had thrown for 2054 yards with 6 TD’s and 4 INT’s ended up finishing the season 1-6 with Eli Manning at QB. Ryan Fitzpatrick after 6 games has 1535 yards with 10 TD’s and 7 INT’s. There are similarities, but to me the biggest disparity is that the Dolphins at 3-3 are only a game and half behind the Bills (5-2) while in 2004, the Giants at 5-4 were pretty far behind the division leading Philadelphia Eagles who were 8-1 and comfortably in first place as they cruised to a 13-3 record. After watching the play of the Bills against the NY Jets last week, those Bills are fortunate to have won that game.

So even though it’s technically game #8 for us and not the start of the second half of the season, this season will be forever divided from this point on. Did the Dolphins make the right move inserting their rookie QB with a chance to win the division? We’ll find out, and this Sunday’s matchup against the LA Rams will give us an idea. The Rams boast a +52 point differential after 7 games, the Dolphins +47. The Dolphins are 12th in the league in scoring (26.7PPG) while the Rams are 18th (25.1PPG). Defensively, the Rams are 2rd in the NFL allowing 17.7PPG and the Dolphins are right behind them at 3rd allowing 18.8PPG. The teams are pretty even but definitely take a different approach getting there. On offense the Rams truly have had a RB by committee approach with Darrell Henderson leading the team with 87 carries for 411 yards followed closely by Malcolm Brown with 65 carries for 274 yards. Cam Akers was drafted early (RD 2 pick #52) by the Rams but minor injuries have stifled his season. In contrast, the Dolphins have relied almost singularly on RB Myles Gaskin with 82 carries and 340 yards and then Matt Brieda has had a few carries sprinkled in some games for 33 carries and 115 yards. The disparity is even wider in the passing game where Gaskin has 27 receptions to Breida’s 7. For the Rams, they seldom throw to the backs, Goff loves the WR combo of Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp who have 30 and 37 receptions respectively. The Rams offense relies much more heavily on its run game than do the Dolphins, the Dolphins have about half the rushing yards.

On defense I think we match up well against the Rams passing game. The pass rush which has come alive can make things difficult for Goff. The Dolphins secondary, now at full strength with Byron Jones healthy opposite Xavien Howard. Nik Needham has been handling the slot and safeties Bobby McCain and Eric Rowe, along with Brandon Jones, Kavon Frazier and Noah Igbinoghene will probably once again leave the Rams to focus on the run game. At the time of this writing, I don’t believe the Dolphins have made a roster move to replace Davon Godchaux at DT. Raekwon Davis will start there but until they bring someone for the PS or acquire a DT DE’s Zach Sieler and Jason Strowbridge will likely fill in. This is important, because I think the Rams are going to try and control the game with their run game so our depth and strength on the front 7 will be imperative to success at stopping the run. The Dolphins are midpack allowing 745 yards rushing (124 YPG)) while the Rams are #12 with 702 yards allowed (100 YPG).

On offense, all I can do is guess as to how we attack the Rams. LOgic would dictate that we’re not going to be doing a lot of prototypical NFL dropbacks with Tua, that we will have him moving around to keep him away from Aaron Donald who as 8 sacks in 7 games, along with 15 QB hits. The good news is that no one else on this Rams defense is close to that, so the task will be neutralize Donald and take your chances with everyone else. My hope is that we get TE Mike Gesicki more involved in the offense. Only twice has Gesicki been targeted more than 5 times and in 2 games he’s had only 1 reception. I want that to change. He’s a big time weapon and should be better utilized. The Rams won’t be easy to run against but they have very little to go on with Tua except 3 plays in the Jets and his college film, so Tua is the “X” factor. In some ways I’d be surprised if they lean heavily on Tua in this game but sometimes great players make it so, and if that happens, I’m willing to let Tua be Tua.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

One of the things that struck me when Tua took over at AL was his anticipation. Impessive.

Can he do it the next level? Hope so.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Against the jets he looked like he was still at Alabama, given the situation.

RT for sure would’ve been sacked on Tua’s first pass, and on his 2nd no way does he get to the 3rd read and hit Grant.

Fitz wouldn’t have made it around the blitz either, but likely would’ve thrown it away or just gone forward getting what he could and kept the clock running. On his 2nd I doubt he would’ve even thrown to Grant.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I wouldn’t evaluate on 2 plays. Can’t wait to see this is game.

The left handed throw was a WTF was that moment for me.

  2. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Lol, every team wants that, but no O can do what they want when they want. Dallas maybe in Zeke’s first year, but it still didn’t take them far.

No team wants to be one dimensional, but that’s not what I’m suggesting. What I’m saying is, if you can’t run it don’t force it, just use it to try to keep the D honest.

“Of coarse”…you don’t need to send a Zip drive across the country by ups to verify the authenticity of what’s in it….but that didn’t stop you from being hooked on this lame excuse

His producers in NY can verify any data just as well as they can in CA

It’s also inexplicable that they don’t use a drop box to transfer files, the data from a zip file is no less reliable than a drop box. I would hope a multi billion dollar company like fox would understand how to use a drop box – they probably do but their audience may not
    _________________________________________________________________

what does all this matter, they were sending info to confirm it, maybe they needed to send it to CA to confirm it before releasing it to the public. i know this concept is hard to grasp by the left.
why make the assumption that “NY can verify any data just as well as they can in CA” or question their manner in which they send it?

it must be pretty damning evidence for them to go to all this trouble, shouldn’t the left be more concerned about what the evidence is rather than judging them in the manner they corroborate or transfer it?

you seem to be defending this clown at every turn regardless of the truth. what if he did orchestrate his son to make millions from china? is this the guy you want to protect us from china?
it would appear the corruption proof is there, making money from ukraine…his china bank connections.

you may as well elect Xi Jinping for president.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I get overnight letters all the time with fairly mundane information. What as all the trouble to spend $12 or whatever to put that zip drive in a UPS box? If the info on it was uber-important…. well it got there a day late.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Are you trying to say he should’ve spent the extra money to make sure he got it on time or something else?

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Something else — ORob said “it must be pretty damning evidence for them to go to all this trouble” and my point was a UPS overnight is just standard business practice rather than huge effort.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Lol ORob

If it was damning evidence, Tucker would have been reciting it last night. Instead he ends the clip by begging for a hunter Biden to be left alone after bashing him for 2 weeks….lol.

It doesn’t take much to read between those lines….you might accept that lame ass explanation, but I call it bullshit

We CAN make the assumption that Ny can verify it just like CA with the knowledge we have on the subject for the same reason we can assume something that should be obvious.
Analyzing metadata to verifying where it came from is possible on both coasts. It’s never been exclusive to the west coast….lol What you are saying we should not assume is like telling people we shouldn’t assume the sky is over our heads. Given the mental gymnastics to believe this load of shit, I’m not surprised to hear some of you might be standing on your hands by now – but my feet remain grounded on the floor.

The concept of whether it was newsworthy, which is based on the content of the docs and not anything exclusive to a Zip drive, is obviously something you can do from a copy which Tucker was so eager to say he made before sending the document. So that isn’t much of an excuse for waiting for a Zip drive to arrive either. But Tucker feeds you that lame excuse too.

Every argument Tucker is making about this is utterly ridiculous

He’s not lying to me when I reject his lame excuses, he’s lying to you. You guys have been lied to. I realize it’s hard to admit that. But It’s clear the trump campaign is floating rumors about his opponents family for political gain – when some one like Tucker switches gear from the evidence is damning to the evidence was tampered with, its on you to call it bullshit or accept it. You made your choice and I made mine.

I have no problem if people want to call me a sucker for what I believe, I hope you are ready to handle the same bc everyone touting this bullshit of a story puts themselves right in the path of that train.

    steve,
Yeah, I know. It’s what you always suggest. I believe you do have to force the run sometimes. If you have 6 incompletions out of 10, are you forcing the passing game? There is truth to the adage that sticking to the run can pay off later in games in a number of different ways.
    ***
It all kinda changes when you start playing the game. A win is a win. If they gotta pass 80% of the time to do it, so be it.

  9. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

So DeVante Parker has “groin issues” now. Before it was a hamstring. We are 6 games in. Love how he plays, but not exactly shedding the fragile talent tag.

  17. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If you look at the WR depth chart and you consider players like Bowden a part of that unit

Perry, Bowden and Ford really have some upside
And they don’t take a lot off the cap room

I expect to be looking at WR In the offseason

We have a lot to figure out at the position

Can we rely on Parker to stay healthy?
Can the young players contribute soon?

I think Hurns is a dead man walking on this team
But Wilson remains an open question to me – but if we want Parker, Perry, Ford and Bowden on the active roster in 2021, the. We are 1-2 additions to parting ways with Wilson too. If we draft a WR in days 1/2 of the draft, I don’t think Wilson has much of a future here. Some of that is contingent on how the other 4 guys mentioned shape up

    who gives a rats ass?
the fact remains that Hunter biden was on the board of a ukraine power company (burisma) making millions while his father was VP. he had no knowledge of operating that business.
begs to question….why were they paying him?
then you add in the fact that the prosecuter of Ukraine who was investigating burisma, the corrupt co that was paying Hunter was fired at the request of joe biden or else he was withholding us dollars stinks to high heaven!
now let’s add in the 1.5 billion he was getting from china, let’s add in hunters emails & the whistleblower.

if it walks and quacks like a duck it aint a pig!

why some around here support this clown is way beyond me. the man is corrupt as hell!

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Prosecuter of Ukraine was not investigating burisma. He had, but the investigation was concluded. Have doubt Hunter was getting paid cause of his last name, but he was also only one of a number of people on the burisma board. Not like Hunter ran the thing.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i disagree, the prosecutor was about to take the guy who owned burisma’s business from him and kick him out of the country,
joe biden saved that business so his son could keep getting paid

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

In April 2014, the Serious Fraud Office of the United Kingdom launched a money laundering investigation against Zlochevsky and accounts of Burisma Holdings

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

the company was in tax trouble that’s why they were being investigated by the prosecutor, multiple times they were found guilty and had to pay millions in taxes. that;s the reason they wanted the prosecutor fired, to stop these investigations into their tax fraud.
easy solution, hire bidens son and let joe get the guy fired

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

ORob — just going by witnesses said in the impeachment hearings, but they could be wrong and you right. I have noticed the far right take on this has moved to the prosecutor was about to launch an investigation. Assumed that was cause no investigation was proven fact, but you might know more as well.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

not only is it fact but burisma had been fined millions and millions of dollars in the past by the same prosecutor, they were found guilty of tax evasion multiple times, that’s why they wanted the guy out.
if you’re ukraine you have to weigh millions over billions and biden had the billions at his disposal.
no doubt in my mind Biden is corrupt

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

that’s why they hired hunter in the fist place

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Then you think Joe Biden is corrupt. You are entitled to your opinion. Mine is different based on the 20 years of tax returns he has made public. If he helped out his kid in a away that the whole EU and US State Department wanted….. have no problem with that.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The conclusions you draw from people spreading rumors and piling unsubstantiated rumor after rumor on top of each other is certainly at hand.

Even when they are unreliable, like what Tucker just tried to pull, they fester and lead to conclusions like the one you just drew. And that’s a huge advantage to Joe Biden’s political opponent.

That’s all you have to do in this social media environment, throw something out there and watch it spread….

It doesn’t matter whether it’s true or not

Hunter Biden was on the Board of Directors at Amtrak and I promise you he doesn’t know anything about trains either. He’s a venture capitalist. He dips his hand and money into a lot of things he probably knows nothing about. He’s a child of privilege.

But in terms of corruption, I’m not sure how anyone can act like he’s some how worse than the trump children or trump

You and I will never know the privilege they know and it sucks that the world works this way when rich connected people can dabble in shit they don’t know about and make money

But it’s not illegal. It’s just shit real people hate

Rudy G and Tucker (among others) launched these attacks and they are effective bc we all hate this privilege bs already. But what they are doing is lightly suggesting a crime was committed to work people up. Every step of the way, you can pick apart the evidence they throw out there just as I am picking apart this mysterious trove of evidence Tucker says exists which probably never existed at all…they are just piling bullshit on bullshit

I promise you, I can rip it apart all of it in the same manner I am ripping the cross county zip file apart, but for the fact that it keeps coming and doesn’t stop. Even if there isn’t a endless trove of evidence, there is an endless trove of rumors that can be spread and an audience dying to hear it

At some point, especially when it’s fueled by a political campaign and a portion of the country that already has its mind made up – it’s just too hard to keep up with

This one instance of the bullshit Zip drive that really probably never had any evidence at all on it, isn’t an anomaly, it’s an example of everything they have done to fuel this controversy. Everything that you are calling evidence probably suffers from similar flaws if you want to spend time with it.

      I don’t, it’s exhausting to.

So then, it just continues, and continues and here we are on a pile of bs that people are just too tired to defend against and would just prefer to ignore….and then it turns into….”why won’t the media report this”…and so on and so on

So that one piece of evidence and the questionable justification tucker is giving for why he is not actually revealing the double secret treasure trove of evidence that might damage Joe Biden on the verge of an election….that’s worthy of an attack

It’s “not something that is supported by other evidence, so it doesn’t matter if it’s not reliable” (to paraprhase). It’s a shining example of exactly why we are even discussing this at all.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i draw conclusions from fact, the fact is biden went on recording how he withheld money from ukraine. that’s a fact!

that is what i drew from it, how is that drawing a conclusion.

Phelon then who put these “fuckwits” in positions of power in the administration? They were the “very best” people he was going to “hire” you can’t have it both ways. The man is dangerous to the country. He speaks and acts ignorantly every day. When responsible leaders stand up and say something they become “fuckwits’ Maybe the fuckwits are those who turn a blind eye to his irresponsible, ignorant behavior and defend him regardless of what it is for purely to be partisan
That’s my position. The people who have watched him slowing destroy norms and damage our institutions, them that watch him denigrate the office of the president with ass-clown douchebaggery, those who have celebrated him alienating our allies and flirting with our enemies for personal gain, those people are the fuck wits

“and got the most expensive health care in the world at walter reed for free”
    ———————————————————
    Really! OMG that is terrible!!!

This was such an ignorant comment. Like he is the only President in the history of our country who got free health care.

BTW, all Presidents, Vice Presidents, Senators, Congressmen, Secret Service, etc. and their families get free health care when in DC. Not just at Walter Reed as the Navy also has a clinic on Capital Hill where we see all of them (mostly senators and congressmen) for outpatient care. I worked there for a month on temporary duty. Hated it, everyone walked around with their assholes puckered 24/7.

It is NOT the “most expensive health care”. It is far from it. The U.S. military health care network is the largest in the world. I worked in the supply department at a major Naval Hospital. Supplies and pharmaceuticals are purchased in such massive bulk amounts and stored in warehouses that the cost per item/pill is much less than any civilian healthcare network could dream about. Military physicians are paid much less than civilian doctors.

Also, if any sitting President, VP, Senator, Congressman, etc. has private health insurance, the military health care facilities have third party collection departments just like civilian hospitals and clinics. They bill their insurance companies just like in civilian health care and recoup their money. I guarantee you they all have private insurance and cost to the tax payer is little to nothing.

I’ve already given my donations, already voted, already given all employees time off to early vote if they wanted… I’m done.

However, I do have American flag signs to replace my political yard signs as soon as as the polls close in Hawaii. 🙂 Just a reminder to myself and my neighbors. 🙂

Rock – You missed the point. If I was going into combat there’s no one I would rather have leading me than James Mattis. But that doesn’t always translate over to civilian life. The point was that once you put the uniform away your opinion is no more important or special than anyone else’s. You do not represent the military or even a majority of the military. I could find 640 farmers that would sign a letter saying Trump was great and Biden is a disaster and it would carry the same weight as the letter you referenced.

You have a bad case TDS.
