Week 8 – Rams @ Dolphins

The halfway point of the season, the Miami Dolphins 3-3 host the 5-2 LA Rams. It’s going to be very different for the 3-3 Dolphins because their veteran fun loving QB is no longer at the helm as he is replaced by rookie Tua Tagovailoa. There aren’t many parallels to find in the history of the NFL but I do recall Eli Manning replacing Kurt Warner in NY for the Giants in 2004. The NY Giants were 5-4 and after replacing Kurt Warner who had thrown for 2054 yards with 6 TD’s and 4 INT’s ended up finishing the season 1-6 with Eli Manning at QB. Ryan Fitzpatrick after 6 games has 1535 yards with 10 TD’s and 7 INT’s. There are similarities, but to me the biggest disparity is that the Dolphins at 3-3 are only a game and half behind the Bills (5-2) while in 2004, the Giants at 5-4 were pretty far behind the division leading Philadelphia Eagles who were 8-1 and comfortably in first place as they cruised to a 13-3 record. After watching the play of the Bills against the NY Jets last week, those Bills are fortunate to have won that game.

So even though it’s technically game #8 for us and not the start of the second half of the season, this season will be forever divided from this point on. Did the Dolphins make the right move inserting their rookie QB with a chance to win the division? We’ll find out, and this Sunday’s matchup against the LA Rams will give us an idea. The Rams boast a +52 point differential after 7 games, the Dolphins +47. The Dolphins are 12th in the league in scoring (26.7PPG) while the Rams are 18th (25.1PPG). Defensively, the Rams are 2rd in the NFL allowing 17.7PPG and the Dolphins are right behind them at 3rd allowing 18.8PPG. The teams are pretty even but definitely take a different approach getting there. On offense the Rams truly have had a RB by committee approach with Darrell Henderson leading the team with 87 carries for 411 yards followed closely by Malcolm Brown with 65 carries for 274 yards. Cam Akers was drafted early (RD 2 pick #52) by the Rams but minor injuries have stifled his season. In contrast, the Dolphins have relied almost singularly on RB Myles Gaskin with 82 carries and 340 yards and then Matt Brieda has had a few carries sprinkled in some games for 33 carries and 115 yards. The disparity is even wider in the passing game where Gaskin has 27 receptions to Breida’s 7. For the Rams, they seldom throw to the backs, Goff loves the WR combo of Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp who have 30 and 37 receptions respectively. The Rams offense relies much more heavily on its run game than do the Dolphins, the Dolphins have about half the rushing yards.

On defense I think we match up well against the Rams passing game. The pass rush which has come alive can make things difficult for Goff. The Dolphins secondary, now at full strength with Byron Jones healthy opposite Xavien Howard. Nik Needham has been handling the slot and safeties Bobby McCain and Eric Rowe, along with Brandon Jones, Kavon Frazier and Noah Igbinoghene will probably once again leave the Rams to focus on the run game. At the time of this writing, I don’t believe the Dolphins have made a roster move to replace Davon Godchaux at DT. Raekwon Davis will start there but until they bring someone for the PS or acquire a DT DE’s Zach Sieler and Jason Strowbridge will likely fill in. This is important, because I think the Rams are going to try and control the game with their run game so our depth and strength on the front 7 will be imperative to success at stopping the run. The Dolphins are midpack allowing 745 yards rushing (124 YPG)) while the Rams are #12 with 702 yards allowed (100 YPG).

On offense, all I can do is guess as to how we attack the Rams. LOgic would dictate that we’re not going to be doing a lot of prototypical NFL dropbacks with Tua, that we will have him moving around to keep him away from Aaron Donald who as 8 sacks in 7 games, along with 15 QB hits. The good news is that no one else on this Rams defense is close to that, so the task will be neutralize Donald and take your chances with everyone else. My hope is that we get TE Mike Gesicki more involved in the offense. Only twice has Gesicki been targeted more than 5 times and in 2 games he’s had only 1 reception. I want that to change. He’s a big time weapon and should be better utilized. The Rams won’t be easy to run against but they have very little to go on with Tua except 3 plays in the Jets and his college film, so Tua is the “X” factor. In some ways I’d be surprised if they lean heavily on Tua in this game but sometimes great players make it so, and if that happens, I’m willing to let Tua be Tua.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

I don’t k ow where guys are rated right now
    ——————————————
It’s hard to project this early anyway and I think even the experts are having difficulty with a bunch of top players who opted out. It’s hindsight, but it believe those who opted out are hurting their draft stock by letting the scouts see these other players rise to the top.

There’s usually so much movement up and down boards within the season

I can’t imagine opting out not hurting some one’s stock

  11. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What streams are you guys using for the games that have been working well? I don’t want any nonsense with Tua’s first start.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Do you mean which streams on the websites we use?

If so, I use two streams and they give me the same results every Sunday.

Top Streamer – this one is very consistent. The only negative, is 3 or 4 times a game, it’ll pop up a box ad you have to just click close on.

Givemeredditstreams – this one is also consistent. The only negative is usually once a half, it’ll freeze and I have just hit refresh and it’s back up. It’s pretty consistent in that it only does it once a half.

  12. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

To bad the rest of the Texas D sucks. Joseph Ossai now has 6 tackles, 5 TFL including 2 sacks and a FF.

  13. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

A lefty QB to keep an eye on for 2022 draft to backup Tua is sophomore Michael Penix Jr. of IU. He still has a good deal to improve on but he is a playmaker.

  14. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Another speedy (not blazing fast though) WR who will be there in mid rounds is Whop Philyor of IU.
Many of the passes in the video are from freshman QB Michael Penix, Jr. I mentioned above.

  15. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Is he a top prospect?
    ———————————–
Tim, Prior to season he was projecting bottom second to mid 3rd, but we are probably looking at top 40 now. Reason I am so high on him is he has that versatility our team likes. He’s 6’4 250 but not just an edge guy. He drops back in coverage also.

  16. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Tim, the same streams won’t come up for all events, so you may not see them if you’re checking on college games. Those two are always available for the NFL games on NFLbite though.

So as I’m going to the back of the car to meet up with my wife to go inside a woman (good looking and shall we say we’ll endowed) comes up and starts telling me what great rack it is. My wife smacked me but I of course said, “I guess I got busted checking out your rack”. We laughed.

  27. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I will say this, Flores put Tua in the game 2 weeks ago up 24-0 inside the 10. Tua handles that and then gets named the starter the next week. Flores has basically said to Tua – it’s always going to be tough, no kids gloves. This is life in the NFL. Tua is being challenged out of the gate by not only a tough Rams defense, but by his head coach.

No idea what the OL will look like tomorrow, but Robert Hunt started at RT last week. Just like Flores threw Iggy into the fire early on, that’s what he’s doing now in game 7/week 8 with Tua and others.

Tua wouldn’t be starting if Flores didn’t feel it. This team is about the future of the young ones! This is the core of Phase II, folks. 🙂

  51. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

TIm, I know you are already waiting on it so here is my November mock draft. lol

5 MLB Micah Parsons, 6’2 245, Penn State, Best LB in the draft hands down. Very instinctive.

14 Edge/OLB Joseph Assai, 6’4 253, Texas, (Jalen Waddle was gone) Dude is playing possessed.

37 OC/IOL Josh Myers, 6’5 312, Ohio State, beast in the middle. Stout and athletic.

46 WR Terrance Marshall Jr. 6’3 200, LSU, I was looking at safety but could not pass. With JaMarr Chase opting out, this guy has rose to the challenge and then some. He is a red zone nightmare and faster than Williams and maybe even Parker. Has 9 TD’s already this season. Think about Parker, Williams, Marshall and Gesicki in the red zone!

77 NT/DT Tedarrell Slaton, 6’5 358, UF, massive immovable man in the middle. Not fat either. For a tall DT he stays low and plays very disciplined.

115 WR/KR Anthony Schwartz 6’0 180, Auburn, didn’t mean to double down on WR but couldn’t pass again. Wasn’t liking what I saw at safety right here and RB Kylin Hill was gone. Schwartz is the fastest player in college football. Love Grantman but the production is not there for some reason almost to point of frustration.

193 S Quentin Lake, 6’1 195, UCLA, very versatile and very good in man coverage. “He plays in the slot, off the edge, in the box, and at single-high. What sets him apart is not his ability to line up in these spots, but he plays them all very well.” Father was All-Pro/Pro bowl safety Carnell Lake. Only knock is he is not a hitter for a safety more of a arm tackler.

200 RB Javian Hawkins, 5’9 197, Louisville, think of a faster and slippery Myles Gaskin. I was thinking big power back but why not a play maker. There will be some power backs who probably go undrafted like Trey Sermon 6’0 216, Ohio State and Brian Robinson Jr. 6’1 226, Alabama who has been stuck behind Najee Harris.

205 TE Peyton Hendershot, 6’4 250, IU, He is a really good TE but some off field domestic issues has him falling otherwise he’d be gone by the 4th round. Almost drafted QB Shane Buechele here.

Click go to this site: https://nflbite.com/
    Click on the dolphins game
Scroll down to the list of streaming sites
Click on the site ‘top streamer’
The site will have a pop up box in the middle of the screen that say 3 ads remaining. Close that box
That box will then say 2 ads remaining. Close that box
After closing that box twice it should allow you to press the play button, an d there is your game

That ad box will show up a couple times during the game, and you’ll have to reclose it.

Things like your internet speed will affect the way the site works, but I’ve always had good success with this one.
