Week 9 – Dolphins @ Cardinals

Ah, how nice is it to ponder our team in Week #9 of an NFL season and not only be in contention for a playoff spot and the division crown, but to do so with a top rated defense and a promising young QB? C’mon, think about that and let it sink in. Forget about Tua throwing for only 102 yards, but think about this defense just 7 games into rebuild YEAR ONE and our defense, yes, the Miami Dolphins defense has given up the least points per game at 18.6 PPG. Incredible! I know some of you are worried about Tua but let it go man. NO matter who we drafted at QB you’d be feeling and thinking we made a mistake. If we took Herbert (who is playing well and looks good) you’d be thinking we screwed up. If we traded up and got Joe Burrow we’d be saying we mortgaged the future and gave up too much. If we waited to select Jordan Love we’d be saying we half-assed and should have gone all in on one of the upper echelon QB’s. Forget about that, we have Tua, and he’s got the talent to be great for us. Let it happen, and enjoy it!

Speaking of that defense, oh that defense. What a clinic they put on against the 5-2 LA Rams. Maybe Garoppolo wasn’t 100% but Goff was and that’s twice within a few weeks that we have flummoxed two NFC QB’s. Goff was pressured and harassed and hit all day long. Dolphins D forced 4 turnovers in all, 2 INT’s and 2 forced fumbles and recoveries, one for a TD on the strip sack of Goff by DE Emmanuel Ogbah (pictured above) and the TD return by LB Andrew Van Ginkel (also pictured above). Opportunistic they were, but there are some concerns. The Rams ran 90 offensive plays and had the ball for 36 and half minutes. 61 pass attempts and and 39 rush attempts. I comprehend that the score is all that matters at the end of the day, but I think we all understand this can’t happen week after week. The guys were exhausted, I saw several Dolphins barely able to get back to the LOS and get set in the 4th quarter, so this can’t continue. We need to get off the field sometimes, and the run defense is a concern. Teams look at film and find weaknesses and if the score is close enough, they will try and exploit our weak rushing defense.

The Arizona Cardinals are also 5-2, like the Rams were last week. They are coming off their BYE week and will be well rested and ready to go. We may catch a bit of a break because it appears as if Kenyan Drake may miss thye game which leaves the rushing in the capable hands of Chase Edmonds. The problem is, #29 doesn’t scare me as much as #1 on the opposing team does. We had tons of trouble with Cam Newton and the RPO but to be fair, that was game #1. This defense has come a long way since then. Still, Kyler Murray is a dangerous man when he’s running with the football, and in my opinion, much like Cam Newton, he scares me more running than passing. We have to be disciplined and we have to play better against that type of attack. We guessed wrong too often with Cam and the RPO, I hope we can do better with Murray. I’m also worried about sending too much pressure and having him find a hole to run upfield so we have to be cognizant of that as well. Oh yeah, and the Cards have DeAndre Hopkins, Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk and Andy Isabella. The Cards are top 10 in points scored (8th at 29 PPG) and in points allowed (9th at 20.9) and have a +57 point differential. The Dolphins are 11th in PPG at 26.9PPG and as previously mentioned, #1 in points allowed (I like saying that!) at 18.6PPG, with a +58 point differential. Good news for Miami, rookie LT Austin Jackson has returned to practice. In his stead, veteran Jesse Davis has performed admirably.

The Dolphins offense will be somewhat of a mess due to the fact that their leading rusher Myles Gaskin is OUT and 3 week IR and it looks likely that backup Matt Breida (hamstring) may also be out or limited. That leaves only Jordan Howard (break in case of emergency), Patrick Laird and Savon Ahmed. I haven’t seen an injury report regarding FB Chandler Cox yet, and there’s always a chance both Malcolm Perry and Lynn Bowden get some touches in the backfield. We’re going to have to see more of Tua in this game, and I hope he’s up for the task. I know he has the talent and the confidence so let’s see some more of him please. I was perfectly fine with how things played out last week, there was no need to put any burden on Tua, the defense and ST’s like the wonderful 88 yard return for a TD last week, along with the Van Ginkel fumble recovery for a TD, but that won’t happen every week, and with the run game being at a huge deficit, it may be Tua time this week. Will #88 ever be a big part of the gameplan? I surely hope so, like Sonny said in “A Bronx Tale”, “The saddest thing in life is wasted talent, and the choices that you make will shape your life forever” Let’s make the right choice and get #88 the damn football!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

So when Jackson comes back does Davis move back to RT or get a Fitz-like benching?

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

IMO Jackson sits again this week and is in the mix (daily competition) to take his spot back. IOW the job is now Davis’ to lose.

    • D's avatar D says:

I wouldn’t take Hunt out. He seems to be playing really well. I dont think there is a need to rush it anyways, Davis is also playing well at LT so give Jackson some time to not only get back to full, but get re-acclimated.

Mail in voter fraud is a myth. It has rarely happened and there has been mail in ballots around the Country for years. It’s actually also a myth that it benefits Democrats. Stanford did a study that suggests with how our demographics have shifted in recent years that there really is no benefit to either party. Why doesn’t it happen? Because it’s extremely hard to do in large enough numbers that actually impact the end result, and it’s really hard to do it without getting caught. It simply rarely happens. And, finally, if Trump truly believes there is wide spread voter fraud, why is he only contesting the vote counts in states where he’s losing? Does that mean there was no fraud in those states where he won….or he simply doesn’t care because it benefits him?
    ***
Trump began manipulating our voting process by changing our US postal service and how they managed mail. Why did he do that? You can decide for yourself, but I think it’s pretty clear. The Republican Party has engaged in voter suppression for decades….ask any black or Hispanic person. Are we seeing some strange things in mail in balloting? Of course, we are seeing huge numbers of mail in votes due to COVID and just that people are doing more mail in voting instead of going in person. This year is new to everyone in many ways, so we are seeing some strange things happen. That doesn’t mean it’s fraud. Trump is doing everything he can to seed doubt and set up a possible scenario to win the election in the courts because he’s known for awhile now that he can’t win it if he lets the American people decide. It’s really that simple. My question is, will we see the Republicans who have sucked his balls for 4 years and been his willing lackeys stand up and stop it? We are starting to see them jump ship like the rats they are now that Trump looks to be losing…so there’s hope.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The part that gets me is Trump says there is mail in voter fraud and 20-some percent of the country acts like God chiseled in an 11th commandment on one of the tablets. But guess these are the same folks who rally against science when it comes to Covid.

        Israel hit 77.9% in 2020

65% is really a good sign for our country

Historic U.S. Turnout Still Lags Behind Major Democracies

People sometimes talk about everyone fighting with each other is a negative, but if it leads to higher voter turnout it’s a good thing

So what – some of us don’t like the others one politics? Big fucking deal, but people go don’t vote having it available to them – that is the end of a democratic republic. People don’t need to agree with each other and get along, they just need a forum for their opinions

IMO the only real legal argument to be had by the Trump team is the Pennsylvania suit for ballots mailed in on 11-3 and received the following days. The way I understand it, the courts may have overstepped on that one. If Pennsylvania comes into play as a determining factor, things could get interesting there, but the way I understand it that may be in the neighborhood of a few thousand votes, not 10s of thousands.

Although if Biden ends up winning that state, it may be by only thousands, so if AZ or NV flip back to Trump, and Biden pulls out PA, shit could get totally wild.

    • D's avatar D says:

Also take into account the rumored voter fraud in WI, where they are saying that the number of votes exceeds the number of registered voters, if that also factors in its going to be a friggin shit show, way worse than it kinda already is. I mean, to me, there should have been a cut off on the mail in votes well ahead of the election. Those should have already been tabulated and recorded and all they should have had to count was the ones cast on election day. That would have helped in all this.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Piggy already debunked that, and I don’t give much credence to conspiracy theories without proof or evidence. It’s an attempt to control narrative.

Of course if it does turn out to be true, then that changes everything.

      • D's avatar D says:

I dont know that its true, thats why im saying rumpored. Not trying to push that narrative, im just saying if it turns out to be true, even in one district of WI, then shits going to get really colorful.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

My post probably just reads wrong there, D. I know you weren’t espousing a belief, and were just relaying that as a potentiality.

I was saying I didn’t take that into account because I don’t give much credence to yada, yada, yada.

  30. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

So bizarre! I had to switch away from Google Chrome on my laptop to be able to post here and I had to change TO google chrome to post from my Iphone.

    Crazy

  31. D's avatar D says:

Kong its just like any proposed change, when one side wants things changed, like electoral college, then you know it benefits them. Democrat strongholds are the most densely populated areas, but changing it so that its completely by popular vote would skew it for the Democrats every year and there would be less representation for those in rural areas. I [personally dont think the electoral college is the best system, but i can say that doing it by percentage of total votes also isn’t quite fair either. Somewhere int here is a middle ground fair to all way, but no one wants that, they want whatever skews it to their advantage.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I agree with pretty much everything you wrote. Not sure what you’re saying though on “it’s like any proposed change…”

Are you talking about the PA mail-in change? If so, I wasn’t agreeing or disagreeing with it, just saying it the most likely to be overturned or have any substantial impact on this election.

My stance on it- I actually don’t see an issue with counting those ballots. I think as long as you cast your vote by deadline election day, whether at the polls or through the mail, it should be counted.

  32. D's avatar D says:

Also i dont think the rumor was all of WI was more total votes than registered voters, i think the rumor was that some districts were like that, but either way, not true its spin meant to put the election in question, true and its a big fucking mess thats going to be investigated and drug out for months.

    • D's avatar D says:

I personally hope its not true, i really dont want to think worse about this election than i already do.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

D — it was just a rumor. All the voting and registration figures are public record. How could the people who work the votes for either party miss such?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Someone put it out there on social media, but used the 2018 voter registration numbers, so to them it looked like fraud. There’s no way that many people voted in Wisconsin, so we’ll see what happens.

In PA the crooked dem judge threw out the lawsuit to look into why the Republican observer wasn’t allowed to observe.

Maybe it’s not fraud, but these shady moves are very suspicious.

  33. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I’m just going to put this out there, I don’t know if it’s true, but I’m going to put it out anyway…..SMH

  34. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Whichever way it turns out I don’t think there was any fraud. On the other hand, while mail in voting should have been available, it should have been a very small percentage of the population. If you can go to an ATM you can fucking vote! With what it cost to do mail in voting they could supply each voter with a pair of latex gloves to turn the knobs.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

he ATM doesn’t require you to stand in line for 4-5 hours with 1000’s of other people many of whom refuse to wear a mask because the covid is a fraud…

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

They can make the lines with social distancing just like they do at WalMart or any other supermarket. That’s a shitty excuse, sorry. The people that are afraid could vote by mail, but the people that are willing to vote in person would do so. Guarantee there would be a much smaller percentage of mail in votes and then they could have been stricter with the rules on mail in voting in order to avoid delays.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

A better analogy would’ve been if you can buy alcohol or drugs.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Same response to another bad analogy. You don’t have to expose yourself for hours to buy liquor. It takes 5 minutes even with social distancing. 1000’s of people don’t show up to my local liquor store all at once.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Maybe not in your area, where there’s a liquor store on every corner😉

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Do you even know my area?

Of course we don’t have one on every corner, but we do have one attached to most supermarkets. LOL

  35. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We know our govt has plenty of corrupt players, especially at the top, so why is it so unlikely there’s election fraud?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Especially when the media covers for them.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Voting is the very core of our democratic process, and I’ll always believe there are shenanigans by both sides. An example of that would be lowering the signature threshold. That is a shenanigan, and is something that is also provable, but it isn’t necessarily illegal.

To me, that kind of stuff is just the way both parties play. I don’t find it any different than McConnel refusing to even vote on a SC justice or withholding voting on hundreds of judge seats until he could push through conservative judges, or pushing through a fast vote on a current SC judge. It’s bullshyte partisan crap, but not illegal, all it does is change the game.

IMO small time fraud may exist, but there are so many checks and balances, like both parties being represented at polling and counting locations as an example, that I just won’t believe fraud is happening on a large scale without at least a shred of real evidence.

If it is happening (say in Wisconsin) then Trump’s legal team will out it, but I think no way that happens. What’ll happen is all his litigation will dry up with no results, not because the media suppresses it, but because it isn’t happening.

The caveat to that is what I posted above. I think he has a legitimate legal fight in PA, but that won’t matter if Biden takes AZ and NV.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

^ Also, why assume that the Democrats are better at cheating. Look at the freaking candidate they came up with after 4 hard years of mining for the best one. lol

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

LMAO! That is an excellent point, Mike. The best these clowns could come up with the last two elections is Hillary and Biden, and they have some sophisticated system of election cheating to swing hundreds of thousands of votes across multiple states?

  36. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

If 800 people show up at a time to vote at a polling place and you maintain social distancing the line would be 1 mile long. People at the back of the line wouldn’t even be able to see the polling place.

The analogy is poor. there is no comparison between “going to the store” and voting. Sorry Mike is just is.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You serpentine the lines like they do in Disneyworld. It could have been done, this is the USA man. Did you not stand in long lines at the supermarket when this shit went down for real? People didn’t stop shopping.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You can have more polling stations in heavier populated areas, there’s always a way to accomplish things.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Serpentine lines mike? you mean where you stand 2 feet from someone but face them instead of stand behind them? You are grasping man. What is your issue with mail in voting? If Trump was pro-mail vote all this time you would be parroting him that it’s good.

Oh, you have compromised immune system? Fuck you! You can’t vote. You have venerable family? Fuck you! You can’t vote. Show up and get sick or go fuck yourself! Is that what you are saying?

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

  38. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Mail in voting is now part of the mosaic. It’s only gonna increase. COVID has changed our world, and now that it’s been done successfully in great numbers it will only get bigger. Hell, young people want to do everything online on their cell phones. In 50 years, in person voting may be the minority of votes. In 100 years all votes might be online. I’ll still be going in person, of course. Lol

    steve,
There are several reasons why you have to prove your identity when you vote. Of course, it’s to prevent fraud, but to somehow extrapolate that out to say there is wide spread voter fraud is simply moronic.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

There’s no I’d required to vote in NV, so there’s always risk if it here.

I don’t think there’s widespread voter fraud. I think it happened in the swing states though. Trump was winning most of them, so they stop reporting in the big cities, then all of a sudden a big dump comes in, in the early morning hours, with no Trump votes. Highly suspicious at least and worth considering.

It’s not that hard to take 139k ballots and fill them out for Biden, when no one is watching or you won’t let them watch.

We’ll see what comes of it.

  40. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rock – Holy fuck man, did you read what I wrote? I said people who were afraid to vote in person could do it by mail. Instead of having 150,000,000 mail in ballots, if there were maybe 50,000,000 mail in votes, they could have been stricter with the rules, for instance, all votes would have to have been in 3 weeks before November 3rd. This way, those votes could have been counted quicker and the process would have been complete.

  41. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,
Many of those mail in ballots were in early. Unfortunately, many States don’t allow for actually counting them until after Election Day. States will adjust and change their laws, as they are allowed to do, but I think we’ll continue to see more and more mail in ballots as time goes on. I’m not even really a fan of mail in voting. I will always vote in person. I feel it’s a small price to pay to do my duty as a citizen, but the horse is out of the barn with mail in voting. Now, it’s up to States to update how they will deal with them.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I really hope that by next election, this mail in crap is done with. I much prefer to vote in person, it’s very satisfying. To this day, I still don’t know if my vote was counted because it got kicked back because they said the signature didn’t match. If I go in person, they check my ID and it’s done.

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Florida was counting as they came in, PA started counting them on Election Day, they fucked that up. We also had early voting and there were barely any lines through the whole process, certainly manageable when there were some.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The lines were very small here too. I have a polling place around the corner from my house. I checked it throughout the day, and never saw a line out the door.

  43. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

In the states we are talking about now, they specifically weren’t allowed to count early

I think 4 years from now, it would be nice for states to follow FLa’s example and permit counting votes as they come in

If all states do this, we probably have results right away on election night

States set the time, manner and place of federal election pursuant to the constitution, so the reason why some states do it this way and others that way, is Bc they have the ability to set their own rules on time place and manner

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

2 years from now they won’t allow this widespread mail in voting, especially if they prove the fraud.

I’d be willing to take you up on that bet. You have to know the offense, blocking responsibilities etc, they’re not going to do that to Tua. If Fitz were starting possibly, but not likely either way IMO

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

RB is the easiest position to learn, so it might be Ahmed. I think Howard starts, then Ahmed gets his chance and the one playing the best gets the most carries, just like game 1.

  45. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,
I agree. I enjoy seeing the process work. On Tuesday, there was a young black gentleman in front of me. There was an issue because they couldn’t find him as a registered voter. After a bit of conversation and investigation, they found him on the list. Yeah, it meant I had to wait a little longer, but it was neat to see the process work and a young man vote for the very first time. It was also a reminder that in person voting isn’t always perfect either. There will always be glitches in a system this size.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I hear ya, I find it very satisfying turning the switches. I’d prefer the lever at the end, you fucking knew your vote was cast once you pulled that big ass lever and it made that satisfying clunk sound. lol

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You BETCHA! Piggy is right, I think the last election was just buttons. I used to love turning the switches and the little X appearing in the candidate of your choice. The big lever is gone unfortunately, you pulled it to close the curtain to vote, and then when you opened the curtain by pulling the lever, your vote was cast. I still remember how proud I was as a little kid doing that either my mom or dad. They indoctrinated me early on the responsibility of voting. Staunch Democrats they were.

When I was in law school I used to be a law clerk for a small firm in minneola Long Island

One of the partners there (mu favorite one) did election law among other things. It’s not exactly a great field to specialize in. It’s only brings you work at certain times of the year…

So he had this client who was part of the “Independence” party
She wanted to run for office in a smallish town in Long Island

But she could not get on the ballot (like Kanye) bc the town rules required a certain threshold (it wasn’t high) of their registrants be regisstered of that party to be on the ballot

But she was convinced that the town was counting people registered as part of the Independence Party as instead registered “Independents”

So she challenged the towns ruling keeping her off the ballot

And guess who got assigned to going with her to the town hall to review the thousands of registrations….this little 🐷

So there I was, reviewing thousands of index cards with information checking each “ents” to make sure it wasn’t “ence” with this crazy woman who was In pure denial about it

Not a single result changed. The town didn’t mess up. She wasn’t even close,

The look in her eyes by the time we gave up….oh boy….

Anyway I guess I respect her fight, even though she was dead wrong. How do you do politics if you aren’t willing to scratch and claw. That’s part of the job.

So I don’t worry so much about the legal fights we are about to face. I don’t think any of us should be fighting for these candidates, I think it’s their fight to fight….and that’s part of the process….so go for it…

We have until Inauguration Day to have an answer
