Week 9 – Dolphins @ Cardinals

Ah, how nice is it to ponder our team in Week #9 of an NFL season and not only be in contention for a playoff spot and the division crown, but to do so with a top rated defense and a promising young QB? C’mon, think about that and let it sink in. Forget about Tua throwing for only 102 yards, but think about this defense just 7 games into rebuild YEAR ONE and our defense, yes, the Miami Dolphins defense has given up the least points per game at 18.6 PPG. Incredible! I know some of you are worried about Tua but let it go man. NO matter who we drafted at QB you’d be feeling and thinking we made a mistake. If we took Herbert (who is playing well and looks good) you’d be thinking we screwed up. If we traded up and got Joe Burrow we’d be saying we mortgaged the future and gave up too much. If we waited to select Jordan Love we’d be saying we half-assed and should have gone all in on one of the upper echelon QB’s. Forget about that, we have Tua, and he’s got the talent to be great for us. Let it happen, and enjoy it!

Speaking of that defense, oh that defense. What a clinic they put on against the 5-2 LA Rams. Maybe Garoppolo wasn’t 100% but Goff was and that’s twice within a few weeks that we have flummoxed two NFC QB’s. Goff was pressured and harassed and hit all day long. Dolphins D forced 4 turnovers in all, 2 INT’s and 2 forced fumbles and recoveries, one for a TD on the strip sack of Goff by DE Emmanuel Ogbah (pictured above) and the TD return by LB Andrew Van Ginkel (also pictured above). Opportunistic they were, but there are some concerns. The Rams ran 90 offensive plays and had the ball for 36 and half minutes. 61 pass attempts and and 39 rush attempts. I comprehend that the score is all that matters at the end of the day, but I think we all understand this can’t happen week after week. The guys were exhausted, I saw several Dolphins barely able to get back to the LOS and get set in the 4th quarter, so this can’t continue. We need to get off the field sometimes, and the run defense is a concern. Teams look at film and find weaknesses and if the score is close enough, they will try and exploit our weak rushing defense.

The Arizona Cardinals are also 5-2, like the Rams were last week. They are coming off their BYE week and will be well rested and ready to go. We may catch a bit of a break because it appears as if Kenyan Drake may miss thye game which leaves the rushing in the capable hands of Chase Edmonds. The problem is, #29 doesn’t scare me as much as #1 on the opposing team does. We had tons of trouble with Cam Newton and the RPO but to be fair, that was game #1. This defense has come a long way since then. Still, Kyler Murray is a dangerous man when he’s running with the football, and in my opinion, much like Cam Newton, he scares me more running than passing. We have to be disciplined and we have to play better against that type of attack. We guessed wrong too often with Cam and the RPO, I hope we can do better with Murray. I’m also worried about sending too much pressure and having him find a hole to run upfield so we have to be cognizant of that as well. Oh yeah, and the Cards have DeAndre Hopkins, Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk and Andy Isabella. The Cards are top 10 in points scored (8th at 29 PPG) and in points allowed (9th at 20.9) and have a +57 point differential. The Dolphins are 11th in PPG at 26.9PPG and as previously mentioned, #1 in points allowed (I like saying that!) at 18.6PPG, with a +58 point differential. Good news for Miami, rookie LT Austin Jackson has returned to practice. In his stead, veteran Jesse Davis has performed admirably.

The Dolphins offense will be somewhat of a mess due to the fact that their leading rusher Myles Gaskin is OUT and 3 week IR and it looks likely that backup Matt Breida (hamstring) may also be out or limited. That leaves only Jordan Howard (break in case of emergency), Patrick Laird and Savon Ahmed. I haven’t seen an injury report regarding FB Chandler Cox yet, and there’s always a chance both Malcolm Perry and Lynn Bowden get some touches in the backfield. We’re going to have to see more of Tua in this game, and I hope he’s up for the task. I know he has the talent and the confidence so let’s see some more of him please. I was perfectly fine with how things played out last week, there was no need to put any burden on Tua, the defense and ST’s like the wonderful 88 yard return for a TD last week, along with the Van Ginkel fumble recovery for a TD, but that won’t happen every week, and with the run game being at a huge deficit, it may be Tua time this week. Will #88 ever be a big part of the gameplan? I surely hope so, like Sonny said in “A Bronx Tale”, “The saddest thing in life is wasted talent, and the choices that you make will shape your life forever” Let’s make the right choice and get #88 the damn football!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

Steve – Have the Republican observers filed a complaint about this? That sounds clearly illegal, and if it’s true, it will be overturned if they can prove that it happened.

  2. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, Tua needs to play a role this week. First game butterflies or whatever… now it’s go time. Both defenses are pretty evenly matched. Tua can’t be the learning Tua on the road. We need Tua the gamer.

  3. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Why do you think the dems want every vote to count and Republicans want every legal vote to count? I told you guys months ago mail in voting was going to bring on the cheats.

In Jackson’s absence, Jesse Davis has played left tackle and was the NFL’s highest-graded tackle last weekend, according to Pro Football Focus.

I don’t get these guys that catch a 2 yard pass, then pedal back. The TE dies it and gains 1 yard. Devante Adams catches it and turns up field and gains 8. Landry used to do that shit all the time. I guess it’s a form of alligator arms, afraid to get hit.

No the republican party did. They are not a law enforcement entity and cannot refer anything to the DOJ. the RNC wrote a letter, which is YUGELY different than a legal referral. But, you ignorance must be blissful.

So what you are saying is that the market knew that Trump is going to lose? If a blue wave was “Expected” and already cooked into the market pricing. I think you are rationalizing now Phellon.

The market was very happy under Obama / Biden for 8 years and tis mountain side image was not cause by “optimism that they were going to be gone soon? The mountain slope was from sound policy. Only folks who were unaware enough of reality believe that Trump inherited “the worst economy in history”

The NASDAQ went from 1820 when Obama inherited Bush’s economy and steadily marched up to 6000 when Trump took over (329% increase!) The Dow went from 7,949 to 19,804 when Obama handed Trump a 7 year record of increase in GDP. (249% increase)

The markets will be fine again. Markets and GDP go UP under democratic administrations and retract under republican admins. (at least since the 80’s) It is counter-intuitive and very well may be because of the “Push back” of electing Republican houses while the are Dem’s in the Whitehouse, but it is an easily checked historical anomoly.

Chris Christie right now saying if evidence is not provided, we need to stop attacking the democracy.

“Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania says he saw no evidence to support President Trump’s claim that Democrats are trying to “steal” the election and called the president’s words “very disturbing.”

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

And they are correct. If they within recount range, ask for a recount. If you have proof of election fraud, or at least a logical reason why you think there was, trot it out. Fishing for excuses why you lost is just ego.

Yep, completely agree. And if evidence is provided, then we move forward on that front. That is how our democracy works. Allegations are not evidence.

I was watching live when Trumps conference started and NBC shut it off like there was anal sex going on in the background. I flipped to Fox and was very proud of the anchors and how they were calming and were saying that what the president was claiming was unsubstantiated. Then I flipped to fox business and Dobbs was going off like talking trump puppet he is. He really should be ashamed of himself but being a propagandist he is probably proud of himself.

      LMAO!!!

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

LOL @ frothing. The demeanor of the person typing is sooo often misconstrued. I am mildly amused, not frothing. My argument was more of a disconnect of the market from the election and more of a connection to bond rates than David’s assertion that this is a joyous reaction to Biden or you assertion that it is an emotional reaction to the Senates continued suppression tactics under the Turtle.

Although I concede that that the markets prefer stability so they can project better.

On the flip side, the markets COULD be reacting to the idea that the international supply chain is about to stabilize because Trumps knee jerk tariffs will be in the past. The uncertainty of these supply chains because of the tariffs have been a break on the economy

OR the it could be all or none of the above. Stop getting your panties bunched over every perceived “attack” on your “greatest leader ever”

  23. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

What I am going to be curious to see is if Biden takes the can of worms Trump opened and runs with it or if he tries to walk back some of the damage done by the precedent set by the president. I’m talking in regards to using emergency powers to push an agenda without an emergency.

Trump used executive powers to take money for his border wall. Will Biden use emergency powers declaring climate change an emergency to take money and push Biden clean energy? Or what about the next school shooting? Will he use that as a national emergency?

I’m hoping the answer to both of those questions is no. Let’s walk back some of this stuff. We’ll see.

  24. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

OH MY OH MY GOD I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE! IT’S SO UNFAIR TO THE GREAT LEADER ! EVERYBODY PICKS ON HIM!

  25. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Cav, I don’t know what policies Biden WILL do so with specifically but I am going to go ahead and say yeah, unfortunately, Biden will probably overuse executive orders and Recess appointments

The right had legitimate reasons to be upset with Obama’s use of them for 8 years. but that’s what happens when the other side becomes obstructionists to everything.

So unfortunately yeah, Biden will do what Obama did again. Too bad there are no moderates left.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

All president going back to Carter have declared numerous national emergencies. I think Clinton declared 17, Bush was in the teens (although 9-11…). Nearly all of Obama’s were international sanctions. Trump set a new bar for taking funds to push a platform he ran on.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

In direct conflict with Congress apportioning those funds. That is what concerns me about Biden.

YOU obviously didn’t read my response. I disputed BOTH you and David.

Your TDS is showing. (Trump defense syndrome)

  27. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Cav, if you are asking specifically about declaring a “environmental state of emergency” to push the green new deal? No I think Biden is to center left to try that BS.

I think he will re-enter the VOLUNTARY Paris Accords and will try to push alternative energy as a part of policy, but not with executive action.

I may be wrong, but that IMO.

  28. Ken's avatar Ken says:

My one political post. Everyone knows I cannot stand Trump and I am pleased he is going to lose but I must give him credit and respect for his ability to turn out the vote. He has proven to be an unconventional but highly successful campaigner. He turns out his vote. Biden will have a record vote total in history second only to Trump. This is Trump’s greatest legacy. He gets people energized to vote. Our democracy works better when more people vote and Trump got people to do that. It is important than any legislation or executive accomplishment he may have achieved and for this the nation is better

    • D's avatar D says:

Dont you think though in both the case of this year and the last election, the turn oout was to prevent the other candidate from winning and not electing the right person? This is my problem and what needs to change in order for high voter turn out to be a good thing, give us people we can get behind so these votes are votes for a good president and not the lesser of two evils.

      • D's avatar D says:

The situation that gave us Trump came from this, the situation that looks like it will give us Biden to inadequately fill the role is also from this.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I disagree. The last election Hillary didn’t get the turn out especially in blue wall states. The Democrats and independent voters were not excited by her. They obviously felt different about Biden. They turned out. That is democracy working as the founding fathers intended

  29. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

D, I think we all can agree that we need to take a long look at our primary system.

We have complaints on both sides every 4 years about the quality of the final candidate.

    BUSH v GORE!
    Hillary v Trump!
Sarah Palin even considered on a ticket!!!??

Our system SEEMS to be tailor made to weed out the better candidates. Or at least that has been my perception over the years.

  30. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Ken, I believe this historic turnout is entirely due to one and only one thing. TDS (on both sides)

NO ONE (and I say this in a hyperbolic manner) LOVES Biden. This was all about Trump.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I think you sell Biden short. Biden is very popular in particular in the Blue wall states where the vote turned out for him. He is well liked amongst African Americans who turned out for him.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

No matter what or why it is always a good thing when more people vote

  31. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Regardless if you think Biden’s win was a rejection of Trump you have to give Trump credit for getting 69 million people to turn out and vote for him. Likewise you have to credit Biden for getting 73 million people to vote for him. It takes more than just animus against Trump to do that. But not matter what 140 million plus people voting and that is a victory for democracy

  32. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

If the people want Biden as president then so be it. By why all the one sided censorship? Cant biden win without this total control of the media. It seems corrupt and unfair. It seems socialistic

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

It is grotesque what the media is doing. Outright socialism. Im surprised you don’t see that. Its immoral. Perserving our american system is way more important than getting the news medias favorite into the whitehouse

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

So in a fair election ill be happy to concede to the other side as the majority know more vs my single vote. This was not a level playing field however. Biden didnt win the election. Power was stolen and everyone should be concerned

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

So you think the incumbent did not have the advantage this time? If so only cause people had seen him as president.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I think the news media shifted the power. Im also in fear of the mail in ballots.
I just want a level playing field. Regardless of who wins.

Wiki and YouTube are not exactly really good sources of information in all due respect.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Sorry to disagree with you. The news media is hard left biased. It’s no secret.

  42. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

My point is i researh on wiki to find info to develope my own opinion. I dont watch biased news outlets and parrot them

  52. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Rob,

Anyone can put stuff on wiki, so what you research there isn’t confirmed fact. That’s why it is unreliable, lol. So if you find something there, how do you confirm it? Or for that matter how did the person who put it on wiki confirm it? Could it be through news outlets, news stories, etc? Or do you fly over to Ukraine and start beating the bushes for information?

I use wiki too. I also see things on youtube. But I never take anything form those sites as hard fact without confirmation. If I only used those as my sources of information, all that info would be suspect.

As for Biden, I’ve already put my opinion on him, and Hunter out there. I think everybody in politics is leveraged, and they all use their positions to their advantage, so I think he probably WAS involved in impropriety. Just like Trump was IMO involved in dirty shit to get dirt on Biden. But at this time there is no hard evidence Biden did anything wrong. There is a lot of circumstantial evidence of potential impropriety, but nothing hard. You can’t even say exactly what Biden did that was illegal. It’s all conjecture.

I know you think Hunter’s business associate coming out against him was a smoking gun. But how many of Trump’s business associates came out against him? Of course that’s different, right. They were all out to make money, or disgruntled, or to sell a book, any excuse in the book. But you’ll give him every excuse in the book, then not use the same playbook for Hunter’s business associate. It’s all confirmation bias.

The conspiracy is coming to light. Manufacture votes in swing states to ensure Biden Harris get elected. Far left Dems will turn their backs on Pelossi (already happening). They will elect a new majority leader. Another from the far left like Harris. By the end of the first year they will be saying Biden does not have the mental capacity to remain president. Harris becomes President and her far left crony becomes VP. It has been their plan all along.

I normally don’t watch news. I can’t stand the way they present information. I’ve watched more news over the past few months than I’ve watched in my whole fricking life! And, to get a complete picture, I watch and read almost all the outlets. The idea that some are biased and some aren’t is ludicrous. They are all biased. Fox is just as biased as CNN. OAN is obscenely biased. CNN is obviously biased too, but they are more nuanced in how they do it. Fox is obviously biased towards Republicans….they just aren’t as good at it as CNN is. My favorite since college: the Christian Science Monitor. Check it out….and I ain’t religious. Lol

And CBS has two afternoon games, and 99% of the country is getting the Pitt/Dal game.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I heard someone talk about this on the radio during draft time, can’t remember who – he was saying the way Miami is building is the right way. Build the trenches, get your QB and add as many other important positions as you can, then get your RB when you’re ready to roll. Don’t waste the early years of a talented rookie RB when you’re not projected to compete at the top. Add them as rookies to a solid team and get his rookie contract for a few years before he looks to get a new deal. I would think RB will be on our radar in the 2021 draft. Maybe even two.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

5 picks in 3 rounds should do it. (fingers crossed)

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

At least one 1-3 and maybe another 5-7. When watching the Rams game I thought we could use a ‘get it and go’ type physical RB like Darrell Henderson. Better them him would be great, but I like the way he plays.

  74. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:
