Since the Miami Dolphins own the #3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, a lot of speculation has the Dolphins selecting Alabama WR Devonta Smith to add an important offensive weapon to help speed up the success of QB Tua Tagovailoa. While this is certainly possible, let’s take a look at who’s actually on the roster at this time and under contract in 2021.
DeVante Parker, Jakeem Grant, Preston Williams, Lynn Bowden and Malcolm Perry will all be returning players from this year’s roster. Two players who opted out due to COVID-19 are set to return, Albert Wilson and Allen Hurns. We sure could have used these guys this season. I’d be willing to bet that if we had Albert Wilson, the Lynn Bowden trade never happens. In any case, it’s good to have a young player like Bowden and I think he showed us some potential as well as some limitations. Allen Hurns is a solid possession type receiver who benefited greatly when paired with superstar WR Allen Robinson in JAX. Neither Wilson or Hurns are guaranteed a spot on this time, especially with the current youth movement, and although like I said, if Wilson was here, Bowden probably wouldn’t be here, he is, and now he threatens the possibility of Wilson coming back.
Let’s look at what our WR’s did this season statistically . . .
DeVante Parker – 63 / 793 4 TD’s 12.3 YPR
Jakeem Grant – 36 / 373 1 TD 10.4 YPR
Lynn Bowden Jr. – 28 / 211 0 TD 7.5 YPR
Preston Williams – 18 / 288 4 TD’s 16.0 YPR
Malcolm Perry – 9 / 92 1 TD 10.2 YPR
Isaiah Ford before and after he was a Patriot totaled 28 receptions for 276 yards and Mack Hollins had 16 catches for 176 yards, none bigger than the 41 yard completion from a twisting Ryan Fitzpatrick. As per the norm over DeVante Parker’s career as a Miami Dolphins, nagging injuries hampered him most of the season and as per usual, when healthy, he showed us just how good and dominant he can be. Just look at the numbers there and tell me we don’t need to make a serious investment at the WR position. Once again, we do have Wilson and Hurns potentially coming back next season but both are stopgap guys, and are not here for the long term. There’s not one player on this team at the moment that can be counted on for significant production. That’s a problem.
Devonta Smith, Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, Chris Olave, Rashod Bateman, Kadarius Toney and some other WR’s, we will be selecting at least one or maybe 2 in this draft. We also may look to FA which would then almost guarantee that at least one of the 2 returning WR’s from the COVID opt out won’t be back. We need playmakers, and my guess is we will be seeking a RB who can do that as well, but right now we’re discussing WR’s.
In the 2021 Free Agency class, the list is headed by guys we won’t be looking at. A.J. Green, Allen Robinson, Larry Fitzgerald, T.Y. Hilton etc. We’re not going to pay that kind of money but a guy like WR Marvin Jones who played for the Lions and is 31 and should come in under $10M might be a target. He’s been good for 60-70 receptions and in the neighborhood of 700-1000 yards a season and close to 10 TD’s. I think we need consistency and Marvin Jones is that guy. There are a lot of other talented and younger WR’s available, like JuJu Smith Schuster but the cost will prohibit us from looking at them. A lot of who we look at will depend upon who is hired to be our new OC in 2021 as former OC Chan Gailey decided he’s had enough.
I’ll be looking at different segments of our roster each week, I just felt that Wide Receiver was so hot right now I may as well run with that. I suppose fro some of you readers I should be looking at QB’s next but sorry, not going there! I’ll probably look at RB’s next. After all, this is about getting Tua weapons to succeed, so the team succeeds, right?
GO DOLPHINS 2021!!!

Yep, Ryan FitzHenne! Lol
Anyone have our old favorite Chad Henne pick of him looking up?
Still my all-time favorite line from this group. A Bat special.
In the immortal words of Bat, Chad Henne seeing snow for the first time with mindless amazement. LOL

Best picture ever! It’s just so funny!
May be a case of a hanging chad in KC today
LMAO
Henne is an idiot, SMH
flashback!
Mike
Mahoney is in concussion protocol after a tackle caused him to hit the turf with his head. He was running for a first down on 3rd and 1
looked like he got his neck rung
I didn’t hear a report, I just assumed it was a head injury
I don’t know if he has been ruled out.
He has been ruled out
He has been
Wow, cleve could win this game!
Henne tossed up a weak balloon in the end zone, WOW that was dumb
that was a costly decision
After a batshit crazy 2020 where everything was turned upside down and sideways, the Cleveland Browns will face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game…LOL
they are still behind and need a TD
Oh, ok thanks
What more could the Bills ask for?
I love Tee Higgins by the way
Clemson receivers are always for real
Browns v Bills is the afc championship has Aaron Rogers Super Bowl MVP written all over it
SAME OLD CHAD HENNE I SAW stink up the place at Michigan and at the Miami Dolphins. Andy Reed must be the one with the concussion for making Henne his back-up QB!!
—————————-
IF the AFC championship features Cleveland at Buffalo, I’m going to have to root for the NFC in the Super Bowl!!
Toba
Did they say what the injury was?
Concussion confirmed
Concussion
Big stop. Chiefs need just one drive
Why that play?
WHY?!?
In the immortal words of Bat, Chad Henne seeing snow for the first time with mindless amazement. LOL

Like a caveman
The look of a man who knows how important that drive was
I didn’t think he hit the ground or the other players helmet very hard , but we was staggering and clearly out of it afterwards
So Mahomes is done for this game? WOW!!
Yep he is , poor KC
Even if the Chiefs pull this out, there’s no guarantee he’s back next week. He looked like he thought he was trying to bake a cake.
He looked like he ate a whole tray of BROWNIES
When they dump the ball off to the RB on 3rd down and you begin to contemplate your future as a serial killer
Lil
Pressure forced the dump off
It would be so 2020 for Henne to beat Buffalo and start in the Superbowl!
My take on the receivers at the Senior bowl:
Frank Darby – Just another WR with issues of getting separation
Dez Fitzpatrick – You’re just getting another Parker/Williams type receiver
Demetric Felton – Versatile. He’s a RB but lines up in slot most of time in a spread “O”. Just OK.
Ben Skowronek – IMO, he is more like a small TE. Good receiver.
Tylan Wallace – Real Good but route tree is very limited. Only lined up on right side 98% of the time in an air raid like offense. Stats may be inflated due to being in that offense.
Now the ones I want to see more of:
D’Wayne Eskridge – They call him the swiss army knife as he would play WR/KR and CB all in the same games. Smaller WR at 5’9 but real fast, 4.33 speed.
Nico Collins – Big WR. 6’4 220 with a second gear. Will be interesting to see what he runs. Was a victim of a poor passing game at Michigan 2019 then opted out of 2020 season.
Cade Johnson – A small 5’9ish small school speedster. Don’t know much about him but is projected to go around 6th where we could double down on WR.
I thought the Senior Bowl is later today Brady vs Brees ?
That is the Geritol bowl
😊
lol at senior bowl
LOL — but major props to both being in it. Not like being competitive in the over 50 softball league.
That is ballgame
Man this is tense. They only need 2 or 3 more plays.
what if Henne wins the super bowl and drives the Dolphin fans mad,,,,,lol
Henne is not much help to the Chiefs, if they win, it wont be because of him, Mahomes put the points on the board
Fans are hoping he doesn’t Lose the game , not to win it
Henne will get killed in Buffalo, lol wont be pretty,,,
I bet Mahomes plays in the afc championship
ANd the game is in KC not Buffalo
they will need Mahomes to win that one
thanks for that Piggy, i like the fact its in KC, rooting for them
Henne on the run for the win was not on my bingo card
lol Henne finally did something to help the team, he had to prove Me wrong, but hes short
Nicely done
Woohoo!! wow, what a play call.
balls of steel
Wow, I mean wow
Good for Henne
Henne for President!!!!!
Man I hope Mahomes is okay next week
Gutsy play call definitely not in the Chan Gailey playbook
awesome play call, looked like a bluff to try to pull them offsides, but then the ball is snapped, lol
i was thinking somebody should be doing that,,,,
I love Tee Higgins by the way
—————————————-
Wasn’t he the one who had the touchback fumble in the first half. That was the difference in the game right there.
Yes. I still love him. It’s kind of a freakish play
Pregame for Bucs/Saints game should include analysis of who’s adult diapers are dryer
That will be checked at halftime!
I have no desire to watch tonight’s game
C’MON, KEN!! Have you lost your anti-Brady mindset?
————————————————————————-
I’d love nothing better than to see Drew Brees beat Tom-Boy about 40-10, just as he did in the first game of this season down at the Super Dome!! Something tells me, though, that THIS game will be much closer. There are two NFL QB’s who’ve passed for over 80,000 yards in their careers. BOTH of them will be on display tonight. GOO-O-O Saints!!
is it wrong to hope brady does seriously bad , lol still dont like the guy
ANYTHING that has a “CHEATRIOTS” odor to it is bad, David.
Right with ya in this one , yes I hope he sux balls and get ten to a pulp by Saints d
Big win for the Patience Brigade today. The waiting finally paid off.
lol but in typical fashion,,, its for some other team,,,
LMAO
I don’t understand how the Browns aren’t being the Chiefs. Isn’t Jarvis Landry on the Browns?
lol yea, he was there today, but the other ex dolphin won this one
but have to give the browns credit, they had an incredible season for them, maybe that will be US next year,,,
FUCK THE BROWNS and their polluted drunk fans who cheered when Dan Marino went down with a torn achilles in a game me and Mrs.OD attended at the Mistake by the Lake!
Classless JERKS!!
The moral is, it takes a team to win, never just one player. That’s why I don’t want to go for Deshaun Watson. I think the Henne led Chiefs will have a tough time with the Bills but they will be prepared if they have to go with Henne and should put up a good fight.
I just want the game to be over! I’m tired of the Brady / Brees talk!
be nice to your elders, lol
Screw them whipper – snappers! 😉
The Moral of the story is our coaching staff’s have SUCKED at player development for 25 years!
^
Not that Henne is a prime example of course!
that argument has merit, but hopefully things are different this go round with FLO
the Fins won 10 games with limited talent, and few playmakers,
the 2021 draft should make the team much stronger and able to compete in postseasons
Flo hasn’t proved himself to be in that category!
There are several examples that say he’s very good at development!
KC has a concussion doctor who will evaluate Mahomes later this week, and determine if He can play
Looks like Mando’s source showed himself, lol.
?
Elucidate, please
https://247sports.com/Article/Vince-Biegel-Deshaun-Watson-trade-Miami-Dolphins-tweet-Tua-Tagovailoa-Wisconsin-Badgers-159461013/
I was referencing Mando saying some Dolphins players aren’t behind Tua basically saying there is a rift in the locker room.
It was more tongue in cheek than anything though. Biegel was injured all year, I can’t see a player who didn’t even play being a source for a story like that.
Ah…graci.
No way Mahoney is back next week. He didn’t even know his name when he got up.
LOL@ Mahoney. I couldn’t find a matching Police Academy gif.
Wow – the concussion is so severe even you forgot his name!
What is going on with the Tampa cover team?
Kong – That BUF really needs to be taken into context. We had a skeleton crew out there at WR and BUF shut that shit down. Plus, they put all the pressure on Tua and the passing game by taking a 28-3 halftime lead which basically eliminated the running game. I hate they call it a Tua meltdown, the kid didn’t really have a chance. On the other hand, he definitely elevate his game or his team, in a big moment but that would have been a lot to ask.
Was this meant for someone else or are you talking about my team of destiny comment?
I’m half joking with that team of destiny comment. I was tossing it out for Toba because of our little exchange about that last night.
If you’re just kinda continuing the Tua vs Watson conversation, I’m game to give my take again. 🙂
Re: Tua,
I don’t put a ton of stock into just one game. They beat us, there were reasons. It wasn’t just Tua’s fault, so I agree with that. The whole team got their butts kicked.
I also think Tua may still be fine and become a good QB, it takes time to develop, I get that. But I think concerns over whether that happens or not are legitimate. It’s certainly not guaranteed.
I want a QB, and Watson is a sure thing at this point IMO, so I’m still making that trade if we can do it for Tua and nothing beyond 2021 picks.
I still have a hard time thinking this is real. Teams just don’t trade franchise QBs at this stage of their career, and the Texans could literally control his location for at least the next 5 years, but the Texans are freakin’ dysfunctional, so who knows what they’ll do. I’ve definitely backed of my position of it’ll never happen.
Greir and Flores have come out in favor of Tua, but if you’re trying to trade him with value as part of that deal, you’re not going to say “yeah, it really looks like he’s going to suck.” lol
All I know at this point is I’m happy if we trade for Watson, and I’m still happy if we move forward with Tua and keep those picks. I think we’re in a good position, and I have faith in our braintrust that which ever way they go, we’re going to be ok.
Cheers 🙂
I like this take, but it’s not definitive regarding one guy or the other! LOL 😉
I think we’re in a position where we can’t lose either way. Either we keep our picks and add some good players to build the team, and hope Tua develops in which case we’re golden.
Or we add a franchise QB, get a couple of weapons in FA, hope for a player or two in the 3rd rd or beyond to be a hit. That makes us playoff strong and maybe a year from being serious contenders.
It still comes down to the FO getting the right players in here.
Hey, y’all. Didn’t see it posted here earlier, but per Jay Glazer, this is it for Drew Brees: he will retire at season’s end. In other words, this could be Brees’ last game.
GO BREES!!!
DEFEAT TOM LADY*!!!
I’ll be happy for him to go out with another ring
You and I both, Manitoba. Drew Brees is a modest, kind, and charitable man.
I hold him in high esteem and respect yes , unlike the other guy
100% agreed, man!
Mike E,
I just about had an internal meltdown earlier today (LOL), trying to figure out our best path forward regarding Deshaun vs Tua. There are so many pros and cons on both sides of the conversation, that it’s truly an unenviable decision to make.
This is on par with Brees vs Culpepper — in the moment — 15 years ago. I honestly have NO IDEA what to do… and I think most Phin fans are split, too.
I’d love to open up the convo on this (weighing all of our collective thoughts), but probably not tonight.
Personally I like the draft capital and I like the weapons available in the draft and I like Tua. Stay the course, don’t blow up our cap and get some weapons.
You just cited one pro to rolling with Tua. Yes, that’s a major pro! And I’ve already taken that into consideration as well.
By the way, that IS a major pro.
I sounded redundant there, but that’s probably the #1 reason to roll with Tua.
I am also a little put off by Watson’s attitude. I don’t like the diva I get to decide what is best for the team bs. I know there are many players who are divas and are great players but I just don’t like it
The way I understand it, Ken, is that ownership reached out to Deshaun, ASKING him for his feedback (sort of akin to the NBA… which I do not like, either). Then after getting some of his feedback, ownership went in a totally different direction, hiring a GM that Deshaun had zero input on.
Then, Deshaun learned about via social media… team didn’t even tell him.
Thus, I’m not sure Deshaun is trying to be “LeBum James” of the NFL.
That all may be true but it still doesn’t make me feel any better about it. He is not the owner, it is not his team. The owner probably shouldn’t have done what they did but Watson shouldn’t act like a spoiled child who picks up the ball on the playground and goes home
Agreed, Ken. But I don’t think that’s what Deshaun is doing… nor is the consummate professional in JJ Watt. BOTH players have had enough of their ownership, man.
I feel like this is a little different, but it may be my own bias giving him the benefit of the doubt.
I do know the very first thing we’d get straight before a trade would be to make sure he knows he’ll have nothing to do with personnel or anything other than being the Dolphins QB, lol.
EXACTLY! I don’t think that will be a problem here.

I think we’re in a position where we can’t lose either way…
—————–
Ultimately, I pretty much feel the same way. I think it’s a win-win sit, at least on paper. We’ll see how the future pens our fortunes, though, over the next several years.
Last thing I want to entertain is… WHAT IF? I just hope it all works out, regardless.
We still haven’t hired an OC…
I heard we are high on Matt Canada the Steelers QB coach
I heard the Stealers* are promoting Canada to OC.
Ah I was not aware of that
Probably weighing ALL options… including QB coaches who are still in playoff contention. Just an educated guess, nothing more.
You’re not going to win a lot of game when your -3 in TOs.

Canada, IMO, would have been an outstanding hire. Sucks that he sticks with the Stealers*.
If I were him I am not sure I would want to stay with Steelers especially if Ben is not coming back
JMO… Big Ben will be coming back.
Arians looks like he’s being strangled by his mask, lol.
LOL
That may seal the deal.
SVUCKS!!! 😡
Ken,
My STAR WARS brother! PLEASE tell me you’ve watched ‘The Mandalorian’, man!
Of course
EXCELLENT!!!
I am looking forward to the Boba Fett spinoff
Absolutely, man!
I feel terrible for Drew Brees. He’s clearly stiff, due to the massive rib injuries he suffered a couple of months ago. This isn’t the way you want to end a HOF career.
Brees looks like he physically just can’t do it anymore
He appeared in tears after the second last int
Come On Aaron Rodgers !!!!
HELL YEAH!!!
Brees was terrible. Have to say I enjoy all those NFC teams having to deal with Brady now instead of us.
Agreed on both accounts. Just remember, Brees was coming off 11 broken ribs a mere 2 months ago. That guy is a STUD for even trying to come back from that.
https://nypost.com/2020/11/22/saints-drew-brees-has-11-broken-ribs-up-from-original-diagnosis/
Brees really did look done. And I was thinking the same thing about Brady. This is his 14th conference championship game. That is nuts. How many teams have 14 championship games? 3?
Patriots, Steelers, Niners, Cowboys
We had Marino….no championship.
Build around Tua. They have the resources.
Give them all up for Watson…is that all this team needs and now a perennial playoff, championship caliber team? I don’t think so. Still work to be done. Watson is $40M in 2022….just sayin.
Just say no to Watson!
Gut feeling!
I think Miami should consider it because he is 25 years old, and a 3 Time Pro Bowler!
Phel, have you ever watched the Amazon series Bosch?
I recently discovered it- it’s a hidden gem police procedural. Since you are a fellow Justified fan, I figured you might dig it. It doesn’t have Justified’s flair, more gritty and realistic, but definitely worth a look if you haven’t seen it.
Not hidden, that’s a great show.
Cav – Haven’t watched Bosch. Since I’m looking for a new binge, I’ll check it out.
Figured I’d put this here too in case you use the whole reply function thing.
Did You See My Guy Chad Henne save the Chiefs Season?
🙂
he played like crap, threw a pick in the end zone
henne put 0 points on the board
My Latest Mock Draft
3. DeVonta Smith WR, Alabama / Patrick Surtain II CB, Alabama
18. Najee Harris RB Alabama / WR Jaylen Waddle, Alabama / OT/G, Alex Leatherwood Alabama
35. Mac Jones QB, Alabama / Dylan Moses, LB, Alabama /
54. Christian Barmore IDL, Alabama / Landon Dickerson IOL, Alabama
81. Patrick Jones II EDGE, Pittsburgh
121. Trey Sermon RB, Ohio State
197. Austin Watkins WR, UAB
202. Marco Wilson CB, Florida
254. Jamar Watson EDGE, Kentucky
A lot of Alabama fans will become Dolphins fans after that draft
I do t think they take a QB but certianly Dylan Moses is an option as your alternate at 35
That said I don’t think he goes that high and maybe that pick can be spent on a edge pass rusher or another WR
I like the other fort 4 picks
I don’t think we should spend the 3 on a CB though
Happy MLK day everyone !
Cav – Haven’t watched Bosch. Since I’m looking for a new binge, I’ll check it out.
im liking cobra Kai 3, great show
the lady that pretends to be Larussos wife , does it for Me, lol
SHES SMOKIN HOT
I think I would prefer to see Miami hire someone from the college ranks as OC. More in tune with today’s game and players.
Dan Campbell will be the Lions new Head Coach
If you’re looking for a good series to watch, both of the Manhunt series were good, Deadly Games and Unabomber. Also, the series Mindhunter was great
🤙
If Mahomes cant play next week, the Bills will blow out the Chiefs and go to the super bowl
Regarding Watson, as I said yesterday I think it takes a Tunsil-like trade offer from Houston to get Miami to bite. I just don’t see them giving up that much draft capital. I could see them packaging Tua, Howard and #18 for him. And I would be okay with that. #3 is too valuable as a trade back position. If I was GM for a day that’s all I would give up.
Jets are more likely to make a big offer and they have the capital to do so. Then Watson has to decide how bad he wants out.
Think it will take more than that. Doesn’t mean we have to offer it up, just that would take more. My estimate is Tua, #3 and #18 at a minimum. And Howard ain’t worth #3.
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
same to YOU
if i were Watson, i would NOT play for the east rutherford jersey jets
the fins scouts and coaches will get a good look at him, see if he is what they want for the number 3 selection
I’m surprised that DeVonta Smith is going to play in the Senior Bowl. A lot of the top prospects decline, I’m glad he’s going. That will definitely give us a nice close up look at the kid. If he checks the boxes it will be a shocker if we don’t take him.
I hope ends up on the team we are coaching. If Penei Sewell is as generational a talent as they claim wouldn’t count him out though, especially since wideouts don’t tend to go that high.
Mike,
Mindhunters was a great show too. Unfortunately it looks like that show will end at 2 seasons, which is too bad.
Bosch somehow never found its way onto my radar, which is why I called it hidden, but it’s 6 seasons in, so I guess someone has to know about it, lol. We’ve got a reprint of the Garden of Earthly Delights triptych in our house, so when I ran across Bosch, I was instantly intrigued by a show with the eponymous lead being a cop.
Season 7 is coming out in the next couple of months and will be it’s final season. I’m looking forward to seeing how they wrap it up.
Yeah, my wife and I checked that because we were wondering when Season 3 was coming and as it turns out, there likely won’t be one. Cameron Britton is just great in anything he’s in. Triptych eh? That’s a name I remember here, and I believe he envied D with some pretty long posts of his own if I recall correctly.
Have you seen either of the Manhunt series? Cameron Britton was in the Deadly Games series but the Unabomber series has an excellent cast as well.
Haven’t watched the Manhunt series yet, but I have it queued up. I have no doubt I’ll enjoy it.
Omar says we still have a long way to go…… and keep building those lines.
———————————–
The Miami Dolphins have a long way to go before they reach their final destination and can be considered a legitimate championship contender.
What we’ve seen from these playoffs is that the franchises that advance either have elite quarterbacks like Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers, Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, or Buffalo’s Josh Allen. Or they consistently own the line of scrimmage on offense and defense.
The elite teams have both.
The Dolphins fit neither of these descriptions as the organization’s focus turns to the design stage of this rebuild…..
So while Dolphins fans dream of the ideal playmakers and obsess about whether Tagovailoa can take a gigantic step forward, remember that contests that decide what teams end up with the Lombardi trophy at the end of a season are won and lost in the trenches.
He’s not wrong. We do need to shore up the Oline and defense. I think defense front 7 still needs some tweaking, the O-line is close, it may just take time to develop. I suppose a great tackle couldn’t hurt us any. lol
Sorta thinking Tua would like Smith at #3.
——————————
Over the 2018 and 2019 seasons, when Devonta Smith and Jeudy were both healthy and Bama was facing ranked opponents, Smith had more targets (47 to 44), receptions (33 to 27), yards (563 to 435) and TD catches (5 to 4) than Jeudy, the 15th overall pick in the 2020 draft.
Smith was also the more reliable of the two in those games, too, hauling in a higher percentage of his targets (69.4 percent to 61.2 percent) and having fewer drops (2 to Jeudy’s seven).
If I was an athletic LB would I ever like to play in this new scheme. MLB run stuffer or SOLB edge setter not so much. See Raekwon Mcmillan.
And yet Elandon Roberts did well in that thumping MLB 2 down role
Do you guys remember Tryptych? I don’t remember if he ever made it to Walker’s blog or any of the others but I do remember him from the SS
I’m almost certain Tryptych made it to the F-ME.
OK, I wasn’t sure.
I have no idea why so many talking heads (yes, they are all NY-based/biased) are saying that the stej have more draft capital than our Phins… that’s fake news. What’s more, Tua can bring more to us in a trade than can Sam Darnold, being Darnold has been in the league for 3 years.
I guess what I’m trying to say is this: Tua, R1P3, and R1P18 for Deshaun Watson gets it done over ANYONE else. The stej cannot even come close to that.
And NO(!), I’m not advocating we do that. I’m just sayin’, that’s all.
We both have two 1st RD picks, but yeah, they certainly don’t have more or better draft capital than us.
Exactly, Mike E. WE are in the driver’s seat, if we so desire to make that trade.
What’s more, Deshaun is in the driver’s seat regarding his destination. His no-trade clause prohibits the Texans from sending him somewhere he doesn’t want to be.
And Florida is tax-free.
AND, Chris Mortensen reported that Deshaun really likes the culture we’re building in Miami with Grier/Flores.
Yep, and despite the fact that the Jets finally made what appears to be a good hire, he hasn’t proven anything yet as a HC and the Jets have been totally dysfunctional (as we were before Flores, but we were 10-6 last season and the Jets were 2-14)
M13 — Any team can offer whatever, doesn’t have to be out of this draft. And more players than Tua and Darnold can be involved. Key thing there though is Watson has a no-trade clause
If the Texans want to rebuild (they HAVE to!), they want picks NOW, not future picks. And yes, I told ya that Watson has a no-trade clause: he’s in the driver’s seat to his destination, and we have the most to give the Texans.
If we want Watson, we’ve got him.
So in a nutshell, it would seem that Phins brass has a HUGE decision to make: trust in Tua, or roll with a consensus top-5 QB in Deshaun Watson.
Not like they can just “roll” with Watson. For starters the Texans might not put him up for bid. And even if they do the Phins have to put in the best bid of the teams on his list.
If the Texans try to pull some BS (see the Bengals with Carson Palmer), they will absolutely destroy their franchise for years to come. Even the very quiet Andre Johnson made some noise regarding the McNair’s, telling Watson to do what must be done.
Again, if we want him, we’ve got him. We can outbid any other team IF we really want him that badly.
It all comes down to how badly we want him… how much we’re willing to give up for him.
Name the team Watson wants to go too and they can outbid us. Just to go over the top….. think the first rounders for the next five or six years will do it.
If Waston pigeon-holes himself into ONE team, with compensation that carries over for several years while they want to rebuild NOW, the Texans WILL deny the trade and ‘Carson Palmer’ his azz.
Think TEAMS (as in, plural). There are several destinations that Watson could enjoy… and we can offer the most immediate compensation.
STILL SURVIVING yet another day in the Covid Bunker. Neither of us seem any better. Wondering how many weeks it will take for us to get passed this virus. MEANWHILE, to the best of my knowledge, NO ONE IN TAMPA BAY got an anti-Corona virus shot, NOT A SINGLE PERSON!!
IT’s an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!! OLD FOLKS DYING (and young folks, too!) while our state leaders in Tallahassee DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! NEVER has “throw the bums out” been more appropriate than RIGHT NOW!!! WE plan to vote against every incumbent in the local elections 2 years from now!!!

TOM BOY and his Buccaneers will have to go into frigid Green Bay and beat the PACKERS next Sunday. Temps in the 20’s with snowfall are expected around kickoff. My money’s on the PACK!!
Meanwhile, in the AFC, if Mahomes can go, I like the Chiefs to win. If Henne starts, the Chiefs will get blown out by Buffalo! What a gruesome prospect!!
IF the worst happens, I’ll hold my nose and root for the Bucs over the Bratwurst Biters!
Hang in there OD. Least it is not getting worse.
Stay strong, Old Dolfan… you and the Mrs. You’ll get through this!
WR Chris Olave to return to Ohio St.. Not in the draft this year
I STILL don’t know what I’d do if I were GM, regarding the Deshaun Watson ordeal. This is BIG, y’all.
We’ve been down this path before, regarding Brees/Culpepper. Tua has an injury history (including a MAJOR one, plus 4 others), but Deshaun has also suffered a torn ACL.
Do you trust in the unproven NFL QB, or do ya go with the proven top-5 QB? We built up our draft cupboard to make a remarkable move to get an elite QB, yet Tua landed to us @ R1P5 last year, only due to his career-threatening injury.
I can roll with whatever decision we make, but it WILL be a franchise-defining decision, IMO.
10 years from now, we’ll be talking about…
— should’ve traded for Deshaun when we had the chance!
— damn it, why did we trade Tua? He became great!
or maybe…
— Belicheat* did it AGAIN! He drafted a QB in the late rounds and found the next STUD!
Does anyone look at this from the angle that you just invested a high 1st RD pick in a QB who played OK for a rookie, maybe not as good as a couple of other rookies (Herbert and Burrow, although Burrow got hurt), but definitely played OK. He had one atrocious game with a corps of 4th, 5th and 6th string WR’s against a team that is in the Championship game. What does it say when you turn around and give up on that player? This is not the same as the Rosen/Murray situation at all. I don’t think it’s a good look for an organization that does that but that’s just my take.
Man, I see it from ALL angles. This is a very good take, as well. I really DO like Tua.
Yeah, from an optics standpoint, it really doesn’t look good, especially when you throw in the wasted 2nd for Rosen on top of that. But I think it’s more important to get the right guy even if they have to admit they made a mistake.
If the FO believes what they have put out there about Tua, then I expect we won’t make that trade. Likewise, if the Texans do end up moving Watson and it isn’t to us, that is a huge vote of confidence in the young man.
I think MF13 put it well, this will almost certainly be a franchise defining moment for us that will be talked about for years to come. I don’t care whether my opinion on what I would do is right or wrong, I just really hope whatever they choose ends up being the right move for us.
