The first big mover was actually a subtraction from the roster as the Dolphins parted ways with LB Kyle Van Noy after recently (last season) signing him to a 4YR/$51M deal. That move was followed by the eventual trade between the Dolphins and the Texans which sent DE Shaq Lawson to HOU for ILB Benardrick McKinney. The Dolphins gave the Texans our 6th RD 2021 pick in exchange for their 2021 7th RD pick. Lawson played both OLB and DE for the Dolphins last season but never really hit his stride in our defense. Van Noy was brought here for his leadership and his playmaking, but the surprising rise of OLB Andrew Van Ginkel helped make Van Noy expendable. While AVG played mostly weak side and and Van Noy played primarily strong, both were interchangeable. I’m guessing the new #55 will undergo a uniform number change as the Eagles would say Ol’ 55, Jerome Baker owns that number. McKinney will definitely solidify the middle next to Baker and and the bigger (6’4 260) McKinney brings more physicality there while Baker brings the sideline to sideline quickness and speed.
In addition to McKinney, the Dolphins further solidified the run defense with the addition of DT Adam Butler. Butler was a rotational guy on the Patriots defensive line with only 12 starts in 4 seasons but he played in all but one game, and he averaged about 45% of the defensive snaps, so he had a good amount of playing time. He’s a DT that gets good penetration, with 20 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and 22 QB hits over parts of 4 NFL seasons. Unfortunately for former Dolphins DT Davon Godchaux, that most likely seals his fate and he most likely will not be returning here. (Update!) Godchaux has signed a 2 year deal with the Patriots, thanks to a couple of FMU NFL insiders.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Dolphins signed RB Malcolm Brown from the LA Rams. Brown while never a premier ballcarrier or workhorse, he brings a more physical running style than what we currently have in Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed and Patrick Laird. Brown was basically the 3rd cog in the Rams run game behind Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson. Brown had a career high 419 yards on 101 carries with a 4.1YPC. He also caught 23 balls for 162 yards and had 5 rushing TD’s. I believe this still leaves the door wide open to draft a RB, even an early pick as I think we still need a talent upgrade there. The Dolphins just recently signed former Texans WR Will Fuller to a 1 year deal. Honestly, I never wanted any part of Fuller because although he has the speed we need, he’s a guy that has a tough time staying on the field, and considering the fact that we already have that in DeVante Parker, that doesn’t give our young QB any kind of stability when guys are constantly missing time. In any case, the Dolphins do get a guy who averages on the high end of YPR (14.9) overall but a career high 16.7YPR last season along with 8 TD’s. Also keep in mind that both Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson are set to return this season after opting out due to COVID last season. Wilson and Hurns together count less than $8M against the cap so don’t count them out just yet.
We didn’t get Joe Thuney, David Andrews or even re-sign Ted Karras, so the Dolphins decided to gamble on former ravens C Matt Skura. Much like Fuller was to me, Skura wasn’t really on my radar. Skura was a 4 year started for a stout Ravens O-line, but he has had injury issues, most recently having a devastating injury 11/19 in which he tore just about anything and everything in his knee including his ACL/PCL/MCL and dislocating his knee cap. To Skura’s credit, he toughed it out last season starting 12 games and playing in 15. As to whether he’s an upgrade over Ted Karras remains to be seen, but Skura was definitely the less expensive option. It’s once again, possible we draft a center with Creed Humphrey, Landon Dickerson Josh Myers, and Trey Smith available. Dickerson and Humphrey could go as early as 2nd RD but the others should be available in the middle rounds.
There are rumors still swirling linking former Seahawks RB Chris Carson and the Dolphins. While I have no problem with bringing in Carson, in my mind at least it would have made the signing of Malcolm Brown unnecessary, but Brown at $1.75M hardly breaks the bank. If we do get Chris Carson, that would almost certainly turn our attention away from drafting a RB early in this draft, meaning no Najee Harris, Javonte Williams or Travis Etienne.
GO DOLPHINS!!!!

KILL JOY!
You can’t have the same fun on this blog?
yes, however it kind of kills the prior convs, no big deal i was just BB.
Yeah, i would be ecstatic if we got Carson & Brown!
That would definitely quash any thoughts of drafting a RB early.
That would be a great 1-2 punch!
For a bunch of you Florida guys. Best news of my day.
“Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Friday that he will lower the coronavirus vaccine eligibility age to 50 starting Monday.”
I thought that already happened?
Nope. He lowered from 60 to 50. Before was talking down to 55, but went the extra 5 years, which means the wifey too….. but don’t tell her you know she’s that old. 🙂
My mom is scheduled to get first shot today”
Good for her. She’s in the most at risk group.
Rob – You’re a big dude, just carry over everyone over from the last blog and bring them over here! lol
not anymore, lost 60 lbs
That’s great Rob, but you’re still a big dude. Even if you were 185, you’re bigger than me!
i was 300lbs on christmas, i now weigh 240
Nice write Mike E
Thanks Hulk!
Mike E — Godchaux signed with the Pats. Just in case. 🙂
Thanks, did not know that. today’s my day off, still trying to catch up on the frenzy. To be honest, all the player movement, and specifically all the one year contracts to me take some of the fun out of being a fan. It’s like who are you even rooting for?
Mike E — now that have read the whole thing…… an awesome break down of what we have done. A lot of it might feel sorta of middle of the road, but we didn’t pledge a lot of bucks going years forward. Think Greir and especially Flores want to see the guys in the locker room and on the field. Gonna be a build through the draft team….. and I like that.
Evil one sure does like to smell our shiot…. lol.
But then guess same could be said of Flores.
“Veteran linebacker Raekwon McMillan is signing a one-year contract with the Patriots, per multiple reports. McMillan reportedly had a free agent visit with the Patriots earlier Friday.”
Last image of McMillan is seeing his ankles almost break as Gaskins goes around him for the 55 yard touchdown catch and run
If we sign Carson imo that doesn’t change the need to change the need to draft a RB
I think it changes the need to get one in RD1 or RD 2
IMO Carson is another journeyman and there is some really good talent at the top of this RB class. I will be disappointed if that is our plan
You can bet that was their plan to get Carson, probably a snag in the contract though, he may be waiting to compare offers.
100% agreed
Unfortunately for former Dolphins DT Davon Godchaux, that most likely seals his fate and he most likely will not be returning here.
More likely the fact that the Patriots signed him to a 16Mil 2 year contract seals his fate more than us signing butler. Just saying.
Crap! Stanger already pointed that out before I refreshed.
Carry on. LOL
ORob is in game day shape
Intermittent fasting, OMAD, one meal a day, low carb
You have been training with Tua 😆. Good for you
I really could help him, i could show him how to throw a football.
i will know if he corrected his shit the first time i see him throw
Carson isn’t a journeyman. He was drafted and played his entire 4 year contract with Seahawks rushing for over 1000 yards in 2018 & 2019 averaging over 4.2 yards a carry all 4 years. He is also a decent receiving back with 37 rec each of the last 2 seasons.
^ Agreed! Like I said, if we get him here for more than a 1 year contract, I don’t see the need to draft a RB early.
JuJu Smith-Schuster back to the Steelers on an $8 mil one-year contract.
good, keep those steelers wrs off our cap and out of our huddle
Rocko – You got out wise-assed by Stanger. Sucks, huh? 🙂
I’m not so sure about that Mike. He definitely posted the information before me, but I think i was “wise-ass-ier” than him in how I posted it. 😉
I guess you can say that, but all the fluff was knocked out of your pillow by the time you hit me over the head with it.
Thank you Rock. Mine was intended as a public service thing so he could correct.
ORob — you’ve slimmed down a bunch….. good for you man. Can’t even imagine you just 35 pounds more than me. Hope it doesn’t lessen the crack on your break. 🙂
I’ve got 30lbs more to lose. like to get to 210 lbs
Nice job Mike E ..
Thanks Toba!
BTW – So far really digging the new job. We have a good crew. It’s early, and things can change, but right now it looks like I made the right decision.
Awesome for ya .. congrats.
Must have missed that you do have a new gig , but good for you. People change jobs for a reason, even if might not know what the new one is like till you settle in.
Seems 90% of league contracts this offseason are 1 year deals ,likely based on lower cap, and expectations it will rise substantially next year … players don’t want to sign long term at low $$, so prolly teams saying we do this now , you outperform it we can make better and longer this time next year
It’s the one thing I hate about the NFL. I agree that’s the cause for so many 1 year deals. I just hate it because it’s such a temporary thing, and more often than not, those players end up going elsewhere after this season.
Yep. I really like the Fuller signing as long as he can stay on field. Has had hammy issues almost every year… keep him long term would be awesome
All the one-years have been hard to miss. Cap should go up going forward, but also might mean a sign of things to come. Rookies are cheaper and on long-term deals. Guys going on 2nd contracts have to be that much better.
Stanger, it’s great i can lose weight, this intermittent fasting really works!
i’m just glad i’m not bald, i couldn’t grow hair back!
Especially in FL there are docs who can help you with the hair thing. Maybe I should be a customer , but I actually don’t care that much. Hairline started going back when was 19…. just glad it wasn’t a blitz attack. Hair left.
well someone around here should wear a turtleneck to the fest,
that way he’d look like a roll on deodorant.
I know plenty of nutritionists and trainers who swear by intermittent fasting
Making a ch age and making your metabolism adjust usually works on some level
Also stop badmouthing bald
see 2:56 post by Que ball
Rob – You’re gonna have a bunch of angry bald dudes after you at the next Fest!! Myself included.
I’ll bring my high speed buffer and some course compound.
I think everyone on this board is beautiful, including you before the weight loss.
He better wear a hat that doesn’t show an inch of his scalp
Bc if any bit of a receding hairline shows – no one will let it go
Last 2 years of FA shows our FO does its best to fill out the roster BEFORE the draft.
“Don’t rely on anyone who hasn’t shown they can compete at NFL level”
Then draft those kids and let them compete (and beat) the veterans for playing time.
Seems how they went this year….. except for edge. No getting around one of those in the say first 3 picks.

I was never blown away by Carson. I think a lot of his success was as a result of the offense he played in and the skill people around him. I don’t think the Seahawks thought that highly of him also because they were always looking to replace him
He’s a dawg, like Marshon Lynch, very hard to bring down
He can put us in preferable down and distance on 2nd down consistently.
Skura definitely feels like “the best we could get” and is a backup if a rookie outplays him. Last year he was recovering from some severe injuries (my brother in law is a Ravens fanatic)… fully healthy he barely gets into top 2/3s of centers at best.
Pats were greedy when it came to centers. Like they were ‘blocking’ us more than anything.
Skura got $1.75 mil. That’s good back-up money. Think it high risk and perhaps your starter. We have Deiter too.
For me, it’ll always be Mary Ann. And if opportunity arises, Ginger can join the party. But it has to start with Mary Ann. Now if there have to be a few mysterious disappearances to leave Ginger bereft of choices so she wants to join the me and Mary Ann party…well that’s a different conversation.
I thought Kong always went for a blonde which in that case would have been Mrs Howell
LMAO, hey, it’s always the ‘hot blonde’, not just any old dishrag the cat dragged in.
Agree, but only after life experience. For my first marriage chose Ginger. Then ended up with Mary Ann (literally) and was much happier. Never had any thoughts of the two together at a party though….. man what a cat fight that would be. 🙂
I have had a similar journey, although I only married once, came close to marrying my own Ginger, and boy what a bullet dodged that was, lol.
Mock drafts are for entertainment purposes only BUT there are a lot of great interior OL available in the top 20 picks of the 2nd round. A trade back with Carolina, for example, would give us give us 3 of those picks (36, 39, 50)… Davis, Leatherwood, Humphrey would be easily had with one of those 3 picks. At least one!
Colts OL plus Taylor at RB is a good model I think. Keep the defenses in the box. Just thinking with my fingertips.
LOL at the Pets winning 14 games and the Lions losing 18. The Pets got better, but they still have Newton throwing the ball. I say 10 wins tops for them, but I’d buy the 9-7 box. But oh the joy of listening to the Bucs vs Pets SB talk all effing year.
The league signs a giant new deal spreading football out to streaming sites, etc. putting a ton of money in their pocket, and Steve, you say this is why you back the owners- because the more the players get paid, the more we have to pay to get all these streams and such? What kind of goofy logic is that? lol
One more thought.. before getting back to work…
As good as our defense was last year regarding points… we struggled against the run (16th in yds/game) but not as much as 2019 (27th in yds/game).
The next step toward being an elite D is to get into top five of this category.
Only two defensive draft prospects, imo, have a chance to make a difference in getting us to that level: Parsons and Owusu-Koramoah. Both are sideline to sideline and excellent tacklers. I’d be shocked if one of them is not in a Fins uniform next year.
LOL @ bringing a high speed buffer and some course compound to the next fest
thick skin on those knoggins!
Dawn Wells past away, she was the lowest paid on the show @ $700 per week, later on she got a $1000 per week, then she went to $200 per week, she never got any merchandise or royalty rights.
$2000
She and the professor also weren’t even in the song to start till they got clipped in.
“…and the rest.” was hilarious.
It is even funnier when a clown tries to be serious. He is still a clown.
Chris Carson is coming off a year where he had less than 700 yards and he’s got a lot of wear and tear in general
I really dont want to end up in the same place as last year at RB after the vets don’t work out. The nfl grind in running backs is hard. I generally don’t like relying on free agents. Nfl running back careers start to decline fast
So I think we should still add a RB
But I do think, a Carson signing will make a player like Etienne more viable
We are going to need multiple backs one way or another
If we sign Carson, we’ll have 4 quality backs. I think Gaskin and Ahmed showed they can play and Brown can do a lot of different things. Remember pass protection is huge and vet backs are usually further along in that area. As long as the running game is effective who cares who they are and how we obtained them.
Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) Tweeted:
Tony Buzbee press conference: ‘We are now representing 12 women (in Deshaun Watson case) and we will file five more cases in due course. We have spoken to more than 10 additional women, 22 women’ https://twitter.com/AaronWilson_NFL/status/1372996061447458816?s=20
Should be available for a 7th round pick soon 😉
Couldn’t this all have come out before I spent a whole day defending his character? sheesh
See ms a few of those women might have just called in to see if they can be part of a settlement…. but most likely not all.
That green blood is in the water and the money sharks are starting to frenzy.
It keeps me employed
I think we should offer Patrick Laird for Deshaun Watson
The accusers are all girls, not sure Watson would be interested in Laird
LMAO
Lol
lolol Watson would probably go for it
Good analysis Mike, but the Dolphins signed another WR, Robert Foster
https://www.miamidolphins.com/news/miami-dolphins-sign-foster
For all you bastards saying we shouldn’t trade for Watson cause the price was too high….. the price has gone down.
swap 7th rounds and a bag of peanuts? lol
Take that in a second no matter what comes out.
The NFL has Watson under review, they remain the right to suspend Watson if they believe the evidence proves the claims. the lawyers claim they have text messages implicating Watson, if the NFL suspends him, that will dramatically harm his trade and contract value
If the lawyer has text messages implicating Watson they weren’t the ones he released today. You’d think he’d go with his best first.
there are about a dozen more cases coming, i cant keep track of them all.
who knows how it will all end up, but it appears there are too many to just buy off
Watson has alot of skeletons in his closet, and he can afford a big closet, so they keep coming out
This all started with the lawyer in the first suit saying “we are going to file…. give us $100k and it all goes away.” How much do you think it takes to make it go away now? they go to trial and is he said/she said.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy on Thursday said “the matter is under review” of the league’s personal conduct policy, and the Texans said they would stay in close contact with the NFL during the league’s investigation.
If the NFL suspends him? I think Houston already knows the answer, and why they signed Tyrod
maybe we can trade Houstons pick back to them, so they can draft a QB , lol
im hoping someone wants to give up an enormous sum , for our third pick in the draft
I thinkbwe should sign Watson to a 1 year deal 🤪
what if he has an 8 game suspension? would it even be worth bothering with?
i dont think teams can decide until after the NFL review is complete
I’m thinking the Pats get him now. Kraft won’t have a problem even if Ross would.
Kraft can show him so good places to go in Miami
And nothing Watson is accused of is worse than Watson supposedly did in the complaints by who is an obvious ambulance chaser.
Lol, good one Steve. Stay with the theme!
This doesn’t mean we don’t need to add an edge rusher in the draft but it’s more competition.
A one year deal…….odd
Doesn’t sound like the answer at edge….. but seems the Texans connection is getting as big as with the Pats.
That’s because the Texans are starting over with new GM and HC so players are available. The same thing we did in 2019.

With all the one yr deals this offseason has produced, next year’s FA period is going to be crazy.
Damn, they will be calling the Patriots, the Dolphins North. They signed a fuck ton of our formers this FA.

Incidentally this was from his personal experience and the recording of it has him going from singing to full on emotional meltdown where he is left crying through the last parts of the song. Incredibly ugly song which paints the act of sexual abuse on a child in the right light and highlights how quick adults are to try to pretend it’s not happening.
Part that really creeps me out is the very last, he is crying and a female voice comes in I. The background trying to comfort him by singing him to sleep…..after what just went on
Coach Flo likes him some STs players. Riley was a former 2017 3rd round pick.
This one is dedicated to Deshaun Watson
Lol
All my Friday night songs are going to be about prostitution in honor of Deshaun Watson

This was an INSTANT CLASSIC! Isaac Hayes!
Loved Isaac Hayes. I still remember the moment I learned that Chef was also The Duke, and my mind was blown, lol. (RIP)

Brennan Scarlett – 5.5 sacks in 5 years. Sheeesh!
I liked Duke Riley coming back in the draft that year!

LOL, blast from the past, an embodiment of the 80’s. love it, bro
M13, I guess Tom McDonald is tired of all the haters. He dropped this one today with a rock vibe.
Swear words are silenced though
Yessir! I saw this about an hour ago, but thank you for sharing, regardless. I appreciate that, man!
I must say… his girlfriend (Nova Rockafella) did a damned good job. She reminds of a younger Gwen Stefani or Fergie.
I Love Rock N’ Roll – 1982
The ‘writing is on the wall’ in that we’re going to have to make either several minor cuts, or one to two major cuts on our roster. Steve had alluded to this earlier, and I think we’ve signed two more players since even then.
We’re still primed to make a blockbuster trade [so long as it sends a $$$ player(s) to another team], but I don’t see it happening (Deshaun Watson or Danielle Hunter), for obvious reasons.
Expect to see some of the rumored ‘borderline’ players on the chopping block… or perhaps we can trade one or two for late-round draft picks.
We’ll have to make some moves, but we’ve got plenty of time, since the rookies won’t count for several months.
I had us at 12.5m – today’s 2 – 2m for the CB we signed that hadn’t been put in yet
Yessir… we’re going to have to make some moves, one way or the other.
I think this has music, but I can’t get past…
NICE!

In the words of Isaac Hayes, on the “Theme From Shaft”… DAMN RIGHT!!! 😀
I like how we’ve been looking at FAs but balking at big money and playing the 2nd and 3rd tier game. Add some starter/rotational guys and some depth/STs. Set up for the draft. I think OL and Edge may be what we do early. Then WR and RB in whatever order.
I think EDGE is a screaming need at this point. So long as we address it within the first 2 rounds, cool.
Can you imagine if we’ve vetted Micah Parsons what with his allegations, and draft him to be an OLB to rush the passer? Of course, he’d ultimately be moved back inside after a year of two. That would be SICK!
I wouldn’t put him anywhere exclusively, I’d play him all over the place. Lawrence Taylor wasn’t a pure pass rusher at NC, the Giants figured out what he can do. I see some of those same traits in Parsons coming out of college. Not saying he’s the next LT before people start getting nuts. I see a versatile LB with elite potential at the next level.
Forget the allegations, the law, NFL and teams will figure that out. As a prospect he’s a top 5 talent.
Do you remember when you asked me about Micah Parsons a couple/few months ago? I’d told you that I don’t think we need him, being we’ve got a nice stable of LBs. Well, that’s all changed now, hasn’t it?!!
So yes, I’m back to Micah… but if any of these allegations are true, forget him. But I will 100% agree with ya: he’s a top-5 talent in this draft class.
If Micah comes out clean (or if it seems he’ll come out clean)… he checks all of the boxes for us.
And yes… play him ALL OVER the place… just like JT’s ‘Elephant’ role.
Once the FO reviews the new additions vs. where they are with the cap, a few guys are going to be released.
Houston was a pretty good Playoff team before this past season happened and as a result of the ensuing fallout we got from them so far
Their best Linebacker
Their best WR
And today their ST captain and likely best ST player
I like how you called it “fallout”… and you’re exactly correct. In other words, Bill O’Brien is the gift that keeps on giving. He destroyed that place so badly, that we’re STILL reaping the benefits, or as you called it, “fallout”. It’s true!
Yeah it got ugly fast over there
Lol not only those guys but we’re also of course making their first 2 picks
M13, yes I do remember and I’ve been a fan of Micah Parsons since the new year when I usually start looking at the draft. I think he’s going to be one of those guys that impacts games wherever he ends up, and I don’t think the hazing allegations are going to derail his career.
Parsons can be versatile like Van Noy but better. Maybe like a Khalil Mack type. Not as big but he reminded me of him when I watched video of him.
The team seems to be really high on Van Ginkel who had a solid rookie season and got bigger and improved his skills in year two. Looks like we hit on this 5th rounder as a good fit in our defense.
He’s a nice player and Beagle plays very similarly to him
Both have solid size, adequate speed, but they’re good football players. I think VG has more upside than VB, but I’m glad VB is back though.
LDE Ogbah
NT Davis
DT Wilkins
(Seiler, Butler etc.)
OLB Van Ginkel
ILB Baker
ILB McKinney
OLB *Parsons

our cap numbers are down, with the rookie class cap hit it would appear cuts must be made, this may also be a reason to trade back for future picks to avoid paying the #3 over all pick.

Even Bill Maher thinks it’s real.
I don’t get the “even” part. He has always spoke truth to power, imo. John Stewart, too. Both do/did their homework.
I like Bill Maher. He is a liberal but, as you say, he speaks the truth to power and doesn’t shy away from calling out his own side.
Love that we’ve added 3 Houston Texans players and not fucking one of them is Deshaun Watson!!
Miami pretty much single-handedly dismantled Houston. Took their draft picks and then the best players they had left.
Tantamount to ass rape (no offense Deshaun)
Cap at 12.27m with the Scarlett signing. He only cost us 200k off of the cap.
Duke Riley numbers not yet in, so we still have a little money to play with before we have to play with the cap.
The cap will jump significantly in future years, so no real need to worry, if we start pushing contracts to the future.
These 2 signings bring depth to the Edge, removes any thought of hole there and both are STs aces.
Defense is set from a depth perspective, time now for upgrades. BPA on D likely, but we could use that quick twitch pass rusher, and don’t rule out FA to fill it.
Clowney, Ingram, Aldon Smith, and Carlos Dunlap could provide what we need for a year
with 12.5 left and 11.5 to sign draft class seems like we are done, especially with high priced FAs
8m for draft class, but that’s not for several more months. This is a year, when you shouldn’t worry about an FO, that’s mortgaging the future, because of the down cap year and we know the cap is going up drastically.
I expect several reworked contracts. We may be past the point of getting rid of players for cap savings
What a dumbass!
I really like Duke Riley coming out of LSU but he has been about average as a LB. Not really sure how he was used by the Falcons and Eagles though. He is coming off probably his best season. I know it was a contract year, but, he is one of those fast smaller LB’s 6’1, 230. He is also a ST ace and ST captain. I like this signing!

This is all I care about on the subject

Presumably, the $4,577,508 of Isaiah Wilson’s remaining guarantees in his 2021 through 2023 contract years voided last season so the Dolphins don’t have any salary cap charges for releasing him.
Another hole…lol.
A…hole is right
Yep!
From the article – “But, since Wilson’s antics in Nashville voided all of his salary guarantees, cutting Wilson won’t cost the Dolphins anything.”
