I hate to say it, but I think the Tua situation is as much a political situation as it is health situation. By political I don’t mean Democrats and Republicans but NFL. I think they want Tua out because they don’t need another concussion controversy or have another player down receiving medical attention and then taken off the field with a cart or ambulance. I don’t see how he can’t clear concussion protocol by now, he reported concussion symptoms December 26th, it’s Jan 9th now and will be almost 3 weeks at game time.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

But what a psychological lift it’ll be for the team if he can play and be at least 90%.
      He plays well against Buffalo.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

No question, Tua brings the possibility of competing in this game. I don’t think either Skylar or Teddy gives us that chance

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The NFL would love nothing more than a Tua vs Josh Allen match up. Good for ratings and generally good entertaining football.

PFF doesn’t understand what situational football means

Since our O has faltered teams haven’t had to score as many points against us, and were able to just play, while taking less chances, it shows up in D stats

You take those guys off the roster and see what effect it has

  31. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Playing on Sunday is good for this week withvweather and all , but if we win we’ll have likely a short week next week, as they seem to play the #1 seeds on Saturday for div rounds

I’m not looking past Bills, just looking at the daunting schedule we’d have to endure to get to SB, likely 3 wins on road against Buff, KC and Cin

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I almost posted something similar to this last night.

On the road at Bills, KC, then likely Cincy. That would be one hell of a SB run.

    Reply – Mike, see below.

Dolphins’ Cethan Carter: Goes to IR with concussion
    Rotowire OCT 8, 2022
Miami placed Carter (concussion) on its injured reserve list Saturday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. Carter has not played this season since suffering a concussion in the Dolphins’ season opener versus New England. Now he’ll have to miss at least the team’s next four games as he works his way back onto the field.

I don’t for a second pretend to be a concussion expert, or even have in-depth knowledge of the protocol, but this is what the Fins did for Carter. The case looks problematical. Who knows – Tua’s may be the same. I don’t think he’s out of the protocol yet so isn’t even cleared for practice, but as I mentioned last night, I wouldn’t be even slightly surprised if MM wraps #1 in cotton wool and we’ve seen the last of Tua this season. Mac is a certain way and I get the feeling he’d rather give it all up than compromise his way for anything. His comments about Ross giving him a chance last night also speak to this. If Tua gets 100% clearance from all medical staff, MM has a decision to make. I’m quite sure Tua will want to go and make it difficult for him.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Let’s say this was Marino in 84 and he had a concussion and Shula kept him out of SB

You only get so many chances at the playoffs and SB, let’s let the player decide, after he’s cleared by drs

      • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

In mitigation, Marino had no concussions prior to the SB I know of Steve. And if he is cleared medically, I’m sure he’ll want to go. He’s a competitor with an abnormal amount to try to prove to an abnormal number of detractors. My thinking is MM may try to oppose it. Don’t know for certain, obviously, and don’t know much resistance, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Even though Saleh and MM got in a clinch last night, I still think MM carries a torch for Tua 😘

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Marino was hypothetical, just to show how precious their playing time is

I’d be disappointed, if Tua doesn’t play Sunday, but with what it will take to make the SB, not sure the risk is worth it

People will say, one concussion doesn’t increase the chance of the next, but there’s something Tua isn’t doing to protect himself, that he really needs to figure out before he hits the field again

If Tua doesn’t play Sunday I doubt Skylar will be the QB, Betty or Ostrich neck will be in

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Steve, if he was injured on the play where his head hit the turf, there is nothing he can do to protect himself from that- his head didn’t even hit that hard. That happens every game .

Mostert sustained a thumb injury against the Jets on Sunday, leaving his status very much in doubt for Sunday’s playoff game at Buffalo (1 p.m., CBS). The nature of the thumb injury sustained by Mostert on Sunday against the Jets typically sidelines running backs for multiple weeks. Grasping and carrying the ball becomes impossible with this type of injury.

    • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

Not sure that’s true Mike – seems more like wishful thinking?

      https://www.miamidolphins.com/team/injury-report/

“We’ll take it day by day,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said, according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington. “And I will not think about any game — whether this year or next year — until he’s fully ready. And that will require medical clearance.”

“In regards to Tua, I have been advised by medical professionals that it’s critical that Tua worries only about the day that he’s currently in and nothing else,” McDaniel said. “He is in the building, but beyond that, as medical professionals will tell you, any added pressure, anything beyond that day does not behoove the process at all so I will take that very serious and worry about his health first and foremost, and take the advice of medical professionals.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time a HC has used smoke and mirrors, esp against a divisional opponent, but there doesn’t appear to be much light at the end of the tunnel now. Of course, the process could speed up quickly.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Ahhh, but you did not make the point (or at least make it clear) that he was ruled out on Friday, not listed as doubtful. I made that point succinctly which cut through all the chaff, then I reposted the report to back up my statement clearly.

It was not a ‘you beat me to it moment’ or a ‘I didn’t realize you had already said this’ so much as it was a ‘here let me end this debate quickly’ moment. Ergo, I believe no beer is required.

With all that said, I’ll happily get the next round 😉

        🍻

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Although now that I look at your statement again, I guess the “I’m not sure that’s true” was for the ‘doubtful’, so maybe I do owe you a beer. 😭

      • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

I’m certainly not going to split hairs, especially when presented with a Kong sized pint!!!!!! Muchas Gracias! (the I’m not sure that’s true was very much about doubtful – didn’t want to call Tim out). I’ve been hoping Tua might be cleared for practice even if they just see how he does throwing the ball. It’s not unrealistic that even though Tua wants to go, he starts getting happy feet in an actual game faced with pressure (especially from a team who already put him flat on his back)! All idle speculation, but what else is there to do until next Sunday?

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

For some reason I attached the ‘not sure that’s true’ only to the 2nd part of Mike’s statement about Tua being on the cusp of playing, but I see that was my own lack of reading comp. Enjoy your beer, lol.

    I’d say it’s doubtful Mike! 😉

My understanding is you can only practice if you have cleared protocols and if you don’t clear protocols, aren’t you “impossible” (= out). The only way I think your scenario would be possible is if he cleared protocols but was held out of practice for non-football reasons (i.e. MM didn’t want him practicing).

I know it’s way too early for this type of discussion, but I am starting to wonder about Chris Grier. He’s risen from area scout, via Director of Scouting to GM and we haven’t won a play-off game since he’s been with the Fins (2000). I do think he has made some good pick-ups recently, both in the draft and via FA, but he has still never filled a roster with enough talent to win us a play-off game (and yes coaching is an element of that too). I’m not calling for his head just yet, but as I look at this team, with the obvious flaws that we are all too acutely aware of, I ask myself is the man in charge of the roster the right man? We need quite a few fixes this off season and we don’t have many picks to play with. Anyway, like I said, a discussion for the doldrum months.

Based on that, Dawn came out of it relatively well.

A lot of lies in that article especially from the NFL, mostly Vincent, but also Goodell

Not sure they had enough info though early, they were mostly playing CYA after the fact

Fact is it was reported, that play would resume in 5 minutes, after Damar was taken away

Then Bill’s coach came onto the field met with Cin coach, then they went to locker rooms

For sure Bill’s coach said my guys aren’t resuming play

Now it’s on the NFL, the delay happened, because they were trying to resume play, then after an hour they gave in and cancelled

IDK if Damar said this on his own, but if he did what a Saint

Playing the Bills this week reminds of how compassionate Tua was with Allen, after we beat them early in season

I hate the games where 2 rivals play and it gets chippy, especially when its us, don’t see that happening Sunday

Scientists are putting it mainly down to human-driven climate change.

FYI, exactly the same amount of rain falls every year

SMMFH, the biggest conspiracy since the earth is flat

And “climate” is where and how much it is allocated.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Point was human-driven is a conspiracy theory, really just a lie, but since you’re into those too what’s the difference

But you were wrong as usual of course.

What are the chances that Tua had/has lingering effects from the concussion such as double vision? Would help explain some of those throws he made.

Belicheat needs 31 reg season wins and 19 overall to pass Shula in both, so expect him to coach for a while longer, about 10 more years😝 until he passes Don

Herd – if Tua was seeing double and didn’t say anything to coaches that’s crazy

Dolphins finsihed 9-8 and “Tagovailoa quarterbacked the Dolphins in all but one of their nine wins.” Yeah Tua matters.

Miami finished 11th in points per game (23.4) and sixth in yards per game (364.5).

    Tua, playing or not….

    I don’t think it’s political so maybe I’m naive.

I do think a lot of reputations/risks could be on the line…..

I also wonder how long, on some level, has Tua’s brain “accidents” affected or contributed to his poor performances….we will never know.

This also speaks to how little we know about the central nervous system and it’s traumas….just saying…lol

To say it’s all gone after a brief respite is reaching, imo. The body remembers.

  95. CTE doctors have said once a person clears concussion protocols that the brain has already healed itself and there is no amount of extra time off that makes any difference. But the media seems to think that it does and it makes them feel good to be on the side of caution.
