Not gonna lie, I’m legitimately excited to see some of our young guys play, and even some of the older guys too. I really didn’t think it would happen, as most of you know, I’m having a hard time being a fan of this team due to the current management, and the Head Coach. That being said, nothing could give me a jolt of enthusiasm more than to see some of our young players look like they can be NFL starters, potentially good ones! I expect there to be a certain amount of sloppiness, this is the first time many of the players we’ll see against Chicago getting their first televised game action and the big lights will be on, and that changes everything. It’s no longer just practice, and for some of these players, their performance in the 3 preseason games can be the difference between making the 53 and looking for a team to pick them up off of waivers.
We’re going to have a very young, unproven secondary, especially at the cornerback position. CB’s Storm Duck and Kendall Sheffield may be the boundary corners, while veteran Mike Hilton will be in the nickel. There are a few other CB’s who would love nothing more to not only win a roster spot but to steal a starting job. I believe that’s very possible here, it’s certainly written in pencil or chalk at this point and can easily be erased. Jack Jones who was with the Patriots and Raiders and now his third team going into his 4th year kind of needs to grab a starting spot and perform or he may never be considered for a starting spot anywhere. CB Ethan Bonner who always gets buzz in training camp needs to do more than that and make some plays with the lights on and get noticed. 2025 5th RD Pick CB Jason Marshall needs to make things happen to move up the depth chart and get a roster spot. It must feel like hell to be on a roster bubble, but sometimes stars are born when the pressure is on and the lights are on too.
The O-line right now is another are of concern and some positives. Already the depth will be tested with RT Austin Jackson OUT with a leg injury and his status for the regular season Game 1 is up in the air . OT Kion Smith has been here a while, and we have OL Liam Eichenberg who is the backup at every position on the O-line, as well as OL Larry Borom who is a backup at OG and OT. We also recently signed OT Germain Ifedi, so we have lots of bodies, but we need answers, one way or the other. Honestly, I can’t wait to see LT Patrick paul, although he may not play much against the Bears. Of course I want to see LG Jonah Savaiinaea and I want him to look like a beast. Not sure if james Daniels plays much either, but with him I just want to see that he’s healthy and moving well. C Aaron Brewer is also dealing with an injury, as is backup C Andrew Meyer. If it’s not Liam Eichenberg at C, your guess is as good as mine as to who else might play C, Daniel Brunskill, Addison West?
The front 7 is definitely going to be the strength of the defense, but that’s assuming our young players that we drafted get up to speed quickly. DT Zach Sieler got his well earned big payday, but next to him, big Benito Jones and 1st RD draft pick DT Kenneth Grant has to show quickly and be a force for us. The initial depth charts show us not working from the 3-4 base but I don’t think that’s necessarily a change in philosophy. I think we will try and put in some speed packages to get our best pass rushers on the field at the same time, but we will still operate from the base 3-4 which should feature RDE Zach Sieler, NT Benito Jones and LDE Kenneth Grant. At OLB depending upon the health of Jaelan Phillips and Bradely Chubb, those two probably start but I would expect to see an awful lot of 2nd year pass rusher Chop Robinson, and I mean a whole lotta Chop! The inside LB’s look as strong as I can remember with ILB’s Jordyn Brooks, Tyrel Dodson and Willie Gay and even KJ Britt. That’s a deep unit right there, and I haven’t even mentioned Channing Tindall. Back to OLB, Quinton Bell turned some heads again so maybe we see a little something from him and Cam Goode too. Mo Kamara might have a tough time making this roster.
At Safety, I think Minkah Fitzpatrick will be on the field the most, but who is with him again depends on health. Ashtyn Davis or Iffy Melifonwu will most likely be the other safety, and since it seems like Minkah will playing more of a centerfield role with us here in miami, Iffy Melifonwu is more of the SS type, but nothing is set in stone. We also drafted S Dante Trader and don’t forget about special teams ace Elijah Campbell who always impresses the coaches. I’m actually willing to give Minkah another chance, and I hope he surprises all of us by returning to his All Pro from back at his old position, not playing Strong Safety, and back with his old team. I’m sure the trade stung some, he’s a prideful fella, but having an All Pro season is the best message to send to Pittsburgh, as well as to become enamored by fans who weren’t necessarily sure if they liked the idea of him back in Aqua and Orange.
On offense, we have to stay healthy. I would expect RB De’Von Achane to see very little action, as well as QB Tua Tagovailoa. Besides, it’s really about the battle of the backups at both of those positions. At RB, it’s about 2nd year RB Jaylen Wright, veteran RB Alexander Mattison and 6th RD draft pick RB Ollie Gordon. At QB, there could be a dogfight for the backup spot with veteran QB Zach Wilson and rookie Quinn Ewers. Granted, Ewers faces an uphill battle because of who our starting QB is, Tua Tagovailoa and his tendency to get injured. Usually, you want a veteran back there, and last year’s hideous carousel of practice squad rejects was an embarrassment, but no more than relying on QB Skylar Thompson as the backup. Grier and McDaniel won’t get caught with their pants down this year so odds heavily favor QB Zach Wilson who has 33 NFL starts, and not the rookie 7th RD pick Quinn Ewers. Quinn Ewers though needs to show something for this team to carry him as the 3rd QB though, so he better up his game if he wants to be on the 53. The Dolphins could still elect to carry 3 QB’s if they like Ewers potential enough because if they put him on the PS, he’s as good as gone.
The WR spot will fun to see some good competition as well. Tyreek Hill won’t see much action if any, but I expect Jaylen Waddle to play some, and then someone needs to step up from the crowded WR room we have. We signed big WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine early on in Fre Agency after his impressive ’24 season in which he caught 32 passes for nearly 500 yards (497) for a nice 15.5 YPR as well as a heady 9 receiving TD’s. With TE Jonnu Smith gone, it makes sense to think that Westbrook-Ikhine could steal some of those catches, and that it would be nice to have a bigger bodied WR (6’2 211) on the field. Besides NWI, there’s always impressive slot WR Malik Washington who I’m looking forward to seeing some growth from. I think he can be a nice dependable receiver that can find the soft spot and get open when Tyreek and Waddle get the double coverage. He’s quick and shifty and he could get his share of targets. Then there’s good ole Erik Ezukanma who wows and disappears in equal measures. He better do more of the former, because if it’s the latter, he may finally ended his tenure here in Miami. The other Washington, Tahj Washington also needs to shine to make the roster. There’s also Dee Eskrdige who was a 2nd RD pick by Seattle back in 2021 who is fighting to make the roster. Hopefully we have some good competition there.
There’s also a battle for the Punter spot. Incumbent P Jake Bailey will have to be excellent to hold off the much stronger leg of Ryan Stonehouse. Stonehouse booms his punts but has lessplacement accuracy than Bailey. Still, I think the younger former Titans punter has the literal leg up on Bailey, averaging nearly 5 yards more per punt than Bailey. I think we all hope we aren’t punting very often but if we are, I think I’d rather take my chances with the booming leg of Stonehouse.
What are you excited to see? What players are you most anxious to see in action, and which battles are the one you look forward to most? I’m curious to hear your responses, I’m actually getting pumped to see what we got. Don’t mistake this as enthusiasm for our season, I’m nowhere near that yet, but I do want to see some young guys and some of our players returning from injury and how they look. this team has a lot of work to do to get me to feel positive about how our season will go, but maybe they surprise me a little how our young players perform and our botom of the roster looks. I can only hope!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

TD Wright, nice!!!
We were averaging 3.2 YPC before that Jalen Wright TD run.
And after that Jaylen Wright TD run, he’s now at 1.9 YPC.
happens sometimes, when you get 5 carries of 8 inside the 10 and 4 inside the 2
WTF? It’s like this is a damn Bears broadcast. They constantly talk about them. Looks like the Bears are gonna be one of the teacher’s pets for the NFL this year.
I’m hearing the EXACT same thing, man! It’s most annoying.
in PS its one teams announcers or the other’s, prolly theirs
Yea, home team gets the announcers.
It is the Bears broadcast. The NFLN live games are shown using the home local coverage. There is nobody from NFLN there.
The sky is certainly not falling… it’s only preseason. Yet, I’m not liking 1.9 YPC out of Jaylen Wright. I’m looking at the O-Line and it’s (lack of) depth.
INT, nice!!!
Yikes!
Zach Wilson holding onto ball too long.
That too. It’s not ALL on our O-Line, but it ain’t pretty.
Oh, I’m hearing Stacy Dales, and I thought she was NFLN. Still gonna mute it. Lol
Two more sacks that drive. Our backup O-Linemen aren’t very good, IMO.
I think Wilson is holding the ball too long at times
Yup! Agreed with ya above, man.
^
I’m waiting to see Ewers play.
Me too
backup quarterback is usually the most popular player on the team except for of course in Miami where it’s always the third string QB lol!!
I just want to see if he has a future with the team.
our big uglies are still playing more ugly than big
We definitely looked better on both lines in the 1st quarter vs the 2nd.
yeah, the first drive wasn’t horrible.
the further down the depth chart the uglier they play, not a lot of exp on either side
the first series, where we turned it over on downs everyone in the stadium knew it was going to be running plays and the Bears were blitzing and selling out on the run
tough to run with zero threat of a pass
and I kind of take that as a positive for the dolphins. They failed, but they kept smashing and trying
The OL hasn’t looked good. Jonah has gotten pushed around, and our backups are bad. I’m not seeing any effective push from the unit.
I think the DL has looked okay. I’d like to see more pressure though. Their QB has had a lot of time to throw. The defense looked ready to play today, at least. The offense looked kinda meh.
Thanks for extra point info! Didn’t know it was kicker’s choice
Peanut Tillman ain’t no HOFer.
Yep, DBs and overall depth on defense and OL is what should be the focus in the next off season.
my guess is MM brings in Ewers to start his first drive from his endzone
I was right
I can smell a jackass from a mile away, MM SMH
McClendon with a nice series. Who is he?
The Bears announcers are annoying. They don’t stop talking about the Bears regardless of what is going on in the game.
Murphy sighting
I think I’d be OK if we never threw another screen pass again.
Ewers has to protect the football there
Tim, I’d shut the volume altogether because they are beyond annoying, it’s like the Dolphins aren’t even there
not liking a coverage defense call in that situation. Geez
Who is this kid named Keenum?
This Keenum kid is getting a LOT of camera time while sitting on the sidelines, and the compliments from the announcers are overwhelming!
ollie Gordon is not giving up that football
😆
I am liking the depth at WR and RB. Also, return game has been very good today.
Mattison is down. Not good.
It may have been his helmet hitting the ground, not sure though.
this broadcast is so fucking lame
great play by Madison oh my God I hope he’s not hurt
looks like he was driven down onto the crown of his head
My guy Addison West is in at Center.
anybody wanna bet me they’re going to try to run the ball
Nope, not taking that bet.
Much better at the goal line.
I have never seen such a one sided broadcast in my life. There are 2 teams playing but you are only hearing about 1, and endless interviews and banter during gameplay. It’s an embarrassment
^
Sanders in mid-season form
That penalty is garbage, the receiver is trying to fall forward to get the first down, the defender is supposed to allow him to do that? Ridiculous!!!
Tried the Miami WFOR coverage. Steve Goldstein and Kim Bokamper. Bit behind NFL Network but worth it to gey a dolphin-centric commentary. Much more even-handed than Bear homers
88 showing up this drive
Pretty solid game for a first PS game.
There must be 89% helium in these balls they use for FGs nowadays.
some asshole screams about number seven being on this team every year
🤭
thank you for showing me a replay of the coach’s reaction to the play instead of the play itself, smh.
Liking the improvement on ST
Randy says:August 10, 2025 at 3:49 pmThere must be 89% helium in these balls they use for FGs nowadays.
You think a 160lb guy kicking a 70 yder now when a bloke with an iron leg could only make a 63 yder is down to the ball Randy 🤔
Win or lose the 3rd and 4th stringers will decide this game, which is why I never care about preseason records. Right now I would still take the Dolphins 1st and 2nd stringers over Chicago, if this was regular season.
Ditto Rich. Our DBs concern me but without our best pass rush and until the ammo is live we won’t really know how bad they are
messy play calling.
why would you play to lose? Smh
True Rich, but being better than Da Bears isn’t going to leave us with a successful season
No, but it’s hopefully building towards something. I don’t expect this team to be contending for a Super Bowl or even the division this year. I do want the young guys to show up each week, while we decide which veterans we keep moving forward. Keep working on the OL and defense.
That was a pathetic series…. I don’t care if most of these players won’t see the field in the regular season.
Bad playcalling and horrible awareness by Ewers
complete hot garbage end to this game, bexceptcthe final play, lol
Again, not the end of the world… it was only practice. Yes, pre-season games quantify as practice by every metric.
So we’ve got some game sits on tape. Personally, I want to know why our running game sucked in the 1st quarter. I get that we didn’t have all 5 projected starters starting in the 1st quarter (due to injuries already, YIKES!), yet I find the lack of effectiveness to be… disturbing.
At the end of the day, it’s all good. Hopefully, some bubble players made a name for themselves today to stick to our final 53!
Our running game was fine in the 1st until we got near the goalline.
First drive
Achane for 5
Achane for 6
Achane for 11
M Washington for 8
Wright for no gain
Wright for 6
Then from the 2 yardline
Wright for 1
Wright no gain
Wright -3
2nd drive
Wright for -1
end of 1st
Then perhaps it’s more indicative of Wright being a bad RB? 1.8 YPC?
It’s the O-Line, Brother.
It’s the 1st preseason game, and it was a mixed bag with the starters.
We ran well on 1st down and moved the ball with the run game just fine when the starting line was in there.
We struggled in 3 goal to go plays from the 2 when we ran it straight up the gut. That was our only short yardage situation with the starters.
Short yardage might still be a problem, but it’s hard to judge on a single goal line stand situation, especially since goal to go is a different beast than 3rd and 1 at midfield. (I personally think we’ll still struggle in short yardage.)
It’s a very small sample size of our run game with the starters, and there were some positives and some negatives.
There is a sharp dropoff on the oline in our depth, but we all already knew that. Just like we know our secondary is going to be suspect if we don’t get pressure on the QB.
woohoo
we are 0-0-1!
Worthy of a Mai Tai (tie)!
there’s a real possibility our starting 2 CBs are Storm Duck and Ethan Bonner
which is very interesting bc they are both UDFAs from the 2024 and 2023 drafts
those names probabky worry some people – bc how can we be starting two UDFA at such an important position – but if those two guys are playing well, I don’t care if they are first rounders or undrafted
every team has to find some gems – and given the depth at CB, this is the year for us to find some gems in the secondary
I’d much rather see Duck and Bonner starting if they’ve earned it. I think Jones will get one spot at the beginning of the season, but if it ends up with Bonner soon after, so be it. I would hate for them to go out and sign another FA CB and overspend on him like Grier usually does.
I agree. Let the young guys get their feet wet.
Even if the’re webbed.
they’re
https://snjtoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Ken-Fink-Iowa-waterfowlers.jpg
Return game looked good.
I thought Gordon ran really aggressive/mad.
he’s got a real shot and jumping up on the depth chart and becoming an immediate contributor this season
No major injuries call it a win
^
My favorite takeaway from the game is that we dominated on STs. We got an excellent return on every received kick and punt.
I commented on it during the game. You could actually see guys pick up blocks during punts to give our returner time to actually catch and run with the ball. For whatever reason, that almost never happened under Crossman. Our guys could never seem to get in front of the gunners.
Each punter had an excellent punt.
We made all our kicks.
We stuffed every single Bears return attempt.
We only lost on two special teams plays- the holding call on a kick that started us off at the 10 and the missed landing zone kick that started them at the 40.
I hope this signals a big turnaround on STs. I am so glad Crossman is finally gone even if it took 2 years too long.
Cav Kong,
I DO agree with your 6:30 PM post above, man. It’s an area of concern to me (short-yardage sits).
Cheers!
👍
Dolphins looked pretty good today, for whatever it’s worth.
Mike E and Tim,
I’m done with the Mets. I’m not watching another game unless they make the playoffs, and at this point I don’t care if they do because they won’t do much if they get in. They are beyond frustrating, and I would seriously consider overhauling the coaching staff next year. There is WAY too much money invested in this team for them to be playing like this.
didn’t Tyreek say we should put Wright in on short yardage and that would solve that issue? 🤔
yes, but we all know on the goal line or any short yardage situation if someone blasts thru in the area of the runner he doesn’t have much chance
hard to work on short yardage with OL out and the 2nd trigger out and Ryan Hayes in there
should’ve said hard for the Fins to work on short yardage under those circumstances
No, only that we shouldn’t put in Achane
Hill believes Achane, while a dynamic player, isn’t suited for the power running required in those scenarios and suggested using more physically imposing backs like Jaylen Wright or Ollie Gordon.
Bri – Right now the Mets can’t do anything well enough to win. Most days they don’t score enough. Today, they scored 6 runs which should be enough, but as per usual, the starter breaks down and can’t egt through 5 innings and despite being handed a 3 run lead, gives it right back, and then we have to endure another game where we need relievers for 5 innings. Bring the damn kids up (McLean and Sproat) and send put Holmes back in relief, send Montas packing, and maybe these kids bring us a little energy. This team has no fire, they’re all pressing at the same time, and I don’t think there’s any fun. I was worried about the chemistry changing with Soto, and whether it’s his fault or not, this team isn’t fun anymore.
Right now though, the Brewers are doing it to everyone. It has been magical!
I was wondering when you might chime in this season about the Brewers. They have been on fire.
Cubs are running out of breath trying to keep up.
Rock,
reading between the lines, he was essentially saying put bigger backs in (Wright)
Working nights sucks but set my alarm for noon to watch the game then went back to bed.
Malik and Tahj are looking good! It will be interesting to see if they keep 6 WR’s. I think they should.
Of the DT’s fighting for the DT5 spot. Matt Dickerson looked the best. He had at least 1 or 2 nice TFL.
We have some really good edge depth. Murphy seems a bit raw still as a complete edge, was indecisive a couple times.
Funny how our best unit today was ST’s. lol
RB Alexander Mattison is not in concussion protocol after exiting Sunday’s game, head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters.
WR Jaylen Waddle did not play in Sunday’s preseason game due to an injury he sustained during Friday’s practice, per McDaniel.
No info on the Elijah Campbell injury???
The announcers, of course, said nothing about it. They immediately cut away and continued blabbering about the Bears during the injury timeout.
Safety Elijah Campbell, meanwhile, appears to have avoided a major injury. He left the game midway through the second quarter after a Chicago running plays. Trainers examined his right knee before he got up and walked to the sideline.
After spending some time in the medical blue tent, Campbell spent the rest of the game on the sideline.
“I think I would say that as of right now we aren’t worried that it’s serious, but we need more information to know exactly what that is,” Campbell said. “But right now we’re not concerned for anything severe.”
I was really concerned with the Mattison injury. The way he came down on his head / neck and then didn’t move was scary.
overall I came out of the game feeling a little better about the team than I was before the game. Our front 7 looks pretty good. Even the depth players are looking like NFL players. Our young edge players are biting and Gay looks to be pushing for a starting ILB job.
I’m not sure who was playing RG most of the game, but they looked soft. Playing rolly polly with their arms at their sides while trying to “push” the defense. Literally had their arms down at their side like he was wrapped in a blanket! Just looked soft and giggly the whole time. I don’t think it was James Daniels, but I couldn’t tell.
No NFL player should be laughing while he’s blocking.
that should have read jiggly not giggly. (as in soft and fat) LOL
😉
Our savior? I don’t think so…
https://x.com/NFLonFOX/status/1954622597314048496
5 of 18 with two lost fumbles….
I was encouraged that the special teams looked much better than usual. Others noticed too
“One of the brightest spots came from Miami’s special teams. The kick return unit consistently delivered strong field position, with sharp blocking and aggressive returns keeping the Dolphins on the front foot.
Though they didn’t break one for a touchdown, the returners displayed vision, burst, and awareness, early signs that this phase of the game could become a hidden strength in 2025. Jason Sanders added a clean performance in the kicking game, and the coverage units held their own throughout.)
we will take that all day compared to what we are used to.
Rock, I believe that was Kion Smith at RG. At least I saw him lined up there a few times. Not sure what portion of the game he was lined up there though.
This was in stark contrast to the 2024 preseason opener when the Dolphins sat out a total of 40 players, including all their projected starters.
The Dolphins basically used every player on their roster other than those nursing injuries: WR Tyreek Hill, WR Jaylen Waddle, OLB Jaelan Phillips, FB Alec Ingold, T Austin Jackson, OL Andrew Meyer, OL Bayron Matos, S Ashtyn Davis, CB Cam Smith, S Dante Trader Jr., LB Mohamed Kamara and the two players still on PUP, Darren Waller and Liam Eichenberg.
The Dolphins not only opened with their current starting offensive line, it was rookie second-round pick Jonah Savaiinaea who wound up getting the most snaps of any offensive player with 35. Savaiinaea played every offensive snap in the first half, staying in the game after the other linemen had left.
Guard James Daniels and center Aaron Brewer both were done, along with Tua and De’Von Achane, after that first drive, but Patrick Paul played eight more snaps and Larry Borom wound up with 31 snaps before giving way.
Among the backup offensive linemen, tackle Ryan Hayes got the most work with 33 snaps.
The tight end work load was interesting because of how evenly it was split, with 23 snaps for Pharaoh Brown, 22 for Hayden Rucci and Julian Hill, and 20 for Tanner Conner. This suggests very little separation on the depth chart at the position, with Waller the clear top player in the group once he starts practicing.
Malik Washington, who started in Hill and Waddle’s absence, ended up playing only seven offensive snaps but he sure was busy in those snaps, finishing with four receptions and one rushing attempt.
Jaylen Wright (25 snaps) and rookie Ollie Gordon II (22) got the most work at running back, Mattison was hurt on his 12th play.
Kion Smith started at RG. Braeden Daniels did play later…not James Daniels. I don’t think he played at all.
Smith and Borom on the right said were struggling.
Maybe it was Braeden Daniels who looked soft to Rock. I don’t think either played well at RG.
On defense, second-year player Grayson Murphy is an intriguing prospect and the Dolphins clearly wanted to get a long look at him because he played 54 snaps (73 percent of the defensive snaps).
As has been the case in past preseasons, 2022 third-round pick Channing Tindall got a heavy work load, finishing second behind Murphy in defensive snaps with 44.
On the opposite end, six of the starters were done after the defense had a three-and-out to start the game: Zach Sieler, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson, Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson.
Given that it was the preseason opener and the front-line player were done quickly, perhaps it’s a good sign for Ethan Bonner that he played only 11 snaps on defense, the fewest of any cornerback on the roster.
Isaiah Johnson got the most snaps among the active cornerbacks with 29, with starters Kendall Sheffield and Storm Duck, along with Jack Jones all getting 21 snaps.
Among the defensive linemen, rookie draft picks Zeek Biggers (30 snaps) and Jordan Phillips (28) led the way, which makes sense given the Dolphins want and need them to develop quickly.
Rookie first-round pick Kenneth Grant played 22 snaps, all of them coming in the first half.
On special teams, three players reached double digits in sacks: Murphy, Tindall and safety Jordan Colbert.
Yeah, I watched some “highlights” on the bears website this morning. It was the “other” Daniels. Trying to push the line at goal to go from the one and he is literally arms down at his sides trying to push his way backwards rolling back and forth against the D that was pushing him back.
I thought Biggers looked good. He was active. Phillips’ size reared its head. I saw him getting pushed back a number of times. I thought our defense and especially the front played with a lot of energy.
Tindall’s recognition and ability to make plays is still questionable. I wish it would click for him because his speed and athleticism are really good.
Isaiah Johnson got the most snaps among the active cornerbacks with 29, with starters Kendall Sheffield and Storm Duck, along with Jack Jones all getting 21 snaps.
who started at Nickel?
It was supposed to be Mike Hilton
forgot about him, is he nicked up?
Zach had a couple of short, too short, swing passes, but other than that, he looked pretty good
some said he held the ball too long at times, but im really not to worried about that yet, playing behind those scrubs
he looked real comfortable at times standing in the pocket, as if he was in camp practice (where no one hits him)
Ewers got McNutted. MM should be shot for putting him in at his own 5, in his first real action
Adam Schefter
@AdamSchefter
Dolphins running back Alexander Mattison underwent season-ending neck surgery Sunday in Chicago, per sources. Mattison hurt his neck during Sunday’s game vs. the Bears, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and had surgery.
Fuck!
fuck!
that really sucks He was playing really well. I said the post earlier than I thought it was scary. I guess it was.
well, its Ollie time
forgot about him, is he nicked up?
————-
Everyone played some snaps except for those on the list I posted earlier so I guess he played a few snaps.
guess that means they’re comfortable with him at nickel
wonder, if they take him out on some passing situations? He hasn’t been very good against the pass, but is pretty good going downhill, maybe he’s better in zone
Dolphins are working out 6’0 224lb RB Jamaal Williams today.
Not inl concussion protocol
oh, but he did have emergency neck surgery …
yeah, MM is a jackass like that, he did the same with Kohou
Zach Moss is still a FA.
Jeff Wilson also, but just say no
I guess Wilson signed with the 49er’s over the weekend.
Ollie time
GM BBM’s solution:
Trade WR EZ to Denver for RB Audric Estime, 5’11, 227. He’s #3 on their depth chart but have 6 RB’s in camp.
I hope they give Ollie Gordon a chance to get playing time
but I wouldn’t be surprised if they sign some one like Jamaal Williams, to at a minimum, fill out the depth chart
Yesterday reminded me that our running game does struggle without Ingold.
Per The Athletic, the 2025 QB tier results came from a panel of 50 voters who were granted anonymity to share candid evaluations and was comprised of six general managers, six assistant GMs, six former GMs, five other executives, eight head coaches and 19 other coaches, including 15 coordinators.
Tua came in at #17 in the tier 3 category, tier 1 being the best and tier 5 the worst. Only 5 QB’s were considered tier 1.
By being a third-tier quarterback, Tagovailoa and his peers are labeled as legitimate starters but quarterbacks “who need a heavier running game and/or defensive component to win. A lower-volume dropback passing offense suits him best.”
Among those quarterbacks joining Tagovailoa in the third tier are Kyler Murray, Aaron Rodgers, Trevor Lawrence and Geno Smith. In the overall rankings, Tagovailoa came in right behind Rodgers and ahead of Lawrence.
A Tier 1 quarterback was defined as one who “can carry his team each week. The team wins because of him. He expertly handles pure-passing situations. He has no real holes in his game.”
The Tier 1 quarterbacks were Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Matthew Stafford. Mahomes and Burrow were the only unanimous Tier 1 quarterbacks.
One offensive coach was not extremely benevolent in his comments about Tua. Although, he did place him in Tier 2 of his rankings.
“They literally cannot operate the offense when he is not out there, and then they are a top-10 offense when he is out there,” an offensive coach said. “I don’t even like watching him play, but at this point, dude, I can’t say you are not that guy.”
That really sucks about Mattison. Hoping he makes a full recovery for next season, whether it be with us or without us.

I think quite a few of us have experienced these problems regarding ‘blackouts’, even though paying through the nose for services. At least it’s being looked into.

49ers placed RB Ameer Abdullah on season-ending injured reserve, waived QB Tanner Mordecai and activated OL Andre Dillard off the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List.

So we and our NFC ‘twin’ team with nearly exact systems place a RB on season-ending IR today. There might be a race to see who gets the next system-ready RB via FA.
@MikeGarafolo
The #Dolphins are signing RB Aaron Shampklin, per his agents Henry Organ and Alex Beglinger. Shampklin appeared in three games with the #Steelers last year and recently worked out for the #Bears and #Jets. Worked out for Miami today and landed a deal.

4.48 40-time, and not a big guy. Head-scratcher to me.
Not the guy I would have expected to replace Alexander Mattison, to be sure.
WTF??? Small RB from Harvard
I don’t get it, either.
2.8 yards per carry. He’s a short yardage back all right….. Bwaaahaaahaaahaaahaaahaaa!
#17 is a little lower than I’d put Tua, probably 13-15 . I do agree with analysis, that’s exactly how I feel Tua is for our team . If everything is going well, we can win with him, but if the run game struggles against a better team and the defense isn’t playing well, you’re gonna lose with Tua. That won’t stop the excuses from raining down, but those don’t matter. He’s either IT or he’s not IT.
LOL
“BEEP, BEEP, RICHIE!!!”
Aaron Shampklin is no Myles Gaskin, if that’s what Grief is shooting for. And it’s too bad Gaskin got signed by the Ravens just 2 days ago.
And it’s too bad Jeff Wilson got signed just yesterday by the 49ers.
And Salvon Ahmed was lost for the season 2 days ago playing for the Colts.
Rock – I didn’t say Tua was a clown, but sometimes I think Grier was a clown to give him that contract while we still had the 5th year option

DT JORDAN PHILLIPS
Before the game: See Grant, Kenneth. The fifth-round pick figures to be asked to play a significant role as a rookie, even if it’s not as significant as what will be asked of Grant, but he simply hasn’t been very noticeable yet. The Dolphins clearly would feel better about him with a strong preseason debut showing.
How he performed: Phillips did even better than Grant based on the PFF grades at 82.5, fifth among Dolphins defensive players. He was credited with four tackles, including one solo. But in the four snaps I put my binoculars on him from the press box, he was handled one-on-one by the Bears offensive lineman. So not quite sure what to make of all this.
EDGE GRAYSON MURPHY
Before the game: The Dolphins are going to have to make some tough decisions when it comes to which edge defenders to keep on the 53-man roster with multiple options behind Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb and Chop Robinson. Quinton Bell seems like a front-runner for the fourth spot, and Murphy pass-rushing potential might land him that fifth spot. But he needs to show an all-around game to stick, and that starts with the game against the Bears.
How he performed: Between defense and special teams, Murphy wound up playing 67 snaps, which is quite a high amount for any player in a preseason game. And this suggests the Dolphins really want more evaluation on him before determining his roster fate. Murphy did have one of the Dolphins’ three sacks when he failed to bite on a play fake and made a beeline for QB Case Keenum, but he also was overaggressive of rushing upfield on a play where the Bears leaked their running back behind him for a nice gain. He also was flagged for an offside that turned a second-and-goal from the 10 into a second-and-goal from the 5 on a drive that ended with a Chicago touchdown.
LB WILLIE GAY JR.
Before the game: Gay has been the defensive player who’s gotten the most attention for his training camp work, and that’s because he’s gotten his hands on the ball or gotten to the quarterback so often. But for him to carve out a bigger role on defense, he needs to show consistency and that he can be as good against the run as he is in coverage or blitzing.
How he performed: For someone who had made so many plays in the preseason, Gay certainly got a lot of snaps in the preseason opener with 30. He quickly made an impact play when he helped sack Tyson Bagent on the first drive of the game, though it was Benito Jones who created the loss with his penetration into the backfield. Gay had two other tackles, but overall was pretty quiet and maybe we should temper a little bit the forecast for what he could do for the defense based on his training camp accomplishments.
I thought Gay looked pretty good in the game yesterday. He was always around the ball. Poupart was less impressed than I was I guess.
But they don’t mention other guys who had good games on defense in Matt Dickerson and Derrick McClendon
RIP Bobby Whitlock…

CB ETHAN BONNER
Before the game: The battle for the two cornerback spots very well might come down to the final days of training camp, and Bonner has had himself a good week of work as his arrow continues to point upward. Who knows what a good performance against the Bears on Sunday could do for him?
How he performed: Bonner looks like somebody on the move in the secondary, and it continued in Chicago when he was responsible for the one takeaway with tight coverage and a tip of a pass by Bagent. While he didn’t start, Bonner ended up playing the fewest snaps of any defensive back who was in action, which should be seen as a good sign for him.
DT KENNETH GRANT
Before the game: While we’re not sure whether rookie second-round pick Jonah Savaiinaea will play Sunday because he didn’t finish the joint practice, we’d be shocked to not see first-round pick Kenneth Grant in the lineup.
How he performed: Grant played the entire first half, and had a very nice sequence toward the end of his stint when he chased down a running back from behind, batted down a pass at the line and then stopped a Bears ball carrier. His PFF grade of 76.6 was seventh among all Dolphins defensive players. This wasn’t necessarily spectacular, but a solid debut nonetheless.
