2026 Season – Game 4 – Dolphins @ Vikings

The Dolphins (0-3) travel to “The Land of 10,000 Lakes” to take on the (3-0) Minnesota Vikings. This will be only the 2nd time in NFL History that a team will have faced undefeated teams in their first 4 games of the season. The only other team to have done that was the 1986 Philadelphia Eagles. If you’re curious, the Eagles lost their first 3 games but upset the Los Angeles Rams at home 34-20 in Week 4. The Vikings defense has been an NFL best in points allowed through 3 games, allowing only 13.7 PPG. In contrast, the Dolphins have allowed 28.7 PPG and is 31st in the NFL. To make it worse, the Dolphins on offense are scoring 2nd to last at 12.0 PPG. The over/under is 38 points and unless you think the Dolphins are going to find themselves on offense, without RB De’Von Achane who is OUT for the season with a torn ACL, I’d bet the UNDER.

RB Jaylen Wright is trending towards healthy, and he will share the carries with RB Ollie Gordon. Gordon is averaging a paltry 2.4 YPC with 48 yards on 20 carries and 1 TD. Wright has yet to show the explosiveness and speed that was the allure that former GM Chris Grier couldn’t resist in the 2024 NFL Draft, Grier traded a 2025 3rd RD pick to get a 4th RD selection and take RB Jaylen Wright.Wright has not shown he was worth that trade, which is no surprise considering it was Chris Grier who traded up to get him. Grier might have the worst WIN percentage on Draft Trade Ups in the history of the league. I’m not going to bore you or anger you by citing each and every failure, you know them all too well. Wright will once again though have a chance to make Grier look better since RB De’Von Achane is OUT, and RB Ollie Gordon hasn’t done anything to solidify a starting spot. Let’s all hope Wright makes the best of the situation.

If you want to look at two units on the opposite end of the spectrum, focus on the Miami Dolphins defense and the Minnesota Vikings defense. As the broadcast team made quite clear last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Dolphins defense has yet to register a sack during the 2026 season. The Vikings, on the other hand, have 14 sacks already in the young season. OLB Dallas Turner leads the Vikings with 3.5 sacks, and here’s the thing that angers so many Dolphins including myself, OLB Andrew Van Ginkel is next with 3. Vikes have 8 players with at least 1/2 a sack, which is a stark contrast with a team who has no one. Hopefully that changes this weekend with a healthy Chop Robinson, yes that dirty, mean Chop Robinson who dared to touch Superstar QB Patrick Mahomes. DE Robert Beal has a hamstring injury and is likely OUT. DE Josh Uche or DE Malik Herring are going to need to give Chop some help to free him up to make a play or two. In addition to not having a sack, the Dolphins have also yet to force a fumble on defense. ILB Jacob Rodriguez would be the most likely guy to start the wave with his remarkable 7 FF’s last season at Texas Tech.

Despite the 0-3 record, we have seen some improvement. Besides the obvious lack of sacks on defense, and the generosity of the defense to opposing offenses, at times the offense has resembled a functional NFL unit. That will be tested heavily without RB De’Von Achane, but maybe RB Jaylen Wright finally comes of age. It’s a shame that WR Caleb Douglas is OUT, he brought some explosiveness to the offense, and Chris Bell, who is clearly not right yet physically has also shown promise, and I believe that if/when both of these players are healthy, our offense will be that much better. OC Aaron Brewer is dealing with a finger injury but my guess is he will suit up and play. The rest of the line is healthy, and RT Austin Jackson had a better game last week compared to his difficult showing 2 weeks ago. Rookie LG Kadyn Proctor continues to progress, and his pass blocking is a tremendous upgrade to what we had last season in LG Jonah Savaiinaea, who BTW has held his own at RG this season. LT Patrick Paul hasn’t been awesome, basically playing like an average LT, which is a bit disappointing because I think we all hoped he could be elite.

The Dolphins made some roster moves to try and improve the Special teams unit, they signed Cincinnati Bengals LB Shaka Heyward 6’3 238. Glad they recognize that the ST’s unit needs help and are addressing that. K Riley Patterson is 5-7 on FGA’s, and P Bradley Pinion has been worse. He had an awful fumble 2 weeks ago against the Niners when he dropped the ball when attempting to punt, and overall his work has been underwhelming. I’d say both the K and P are on thin ice and in danger of losing their jobs. On the bright side, Malik Washington has been very good both returning kickoffs and punts, and now that Jaylen Wright looks to be back, he will help on KR’s as well. The game of field position has been one we are losing, and when you have a young team that isn’t thriving on either side of the ball, it’s amazing how much a little boost from special teams can give the team. We have sustained some long drives on offense, but the points just aren’t there. Better field position can help there.

    Thank you, Mike E.!

It’s a late start Sunday game too!

Can’t wait to see you guys next weekend…orange pass is coming today!!!

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Awesome! Looking forward to seeing you too Jim! Rock is taking care of business getting us all set up for success at the Fest!

  2. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’ve been listening to KFAN more than usual this week to listen to what they say about us and the game. They are completely ignoring us. If they talk about us, it’s all derogatory. They’re doing a show today from a bar, and people are laughing at us.

They don’t even know who our players are and don’t care. I’m starting to get pissed. Zero respect. I hope we come out and slap these bitches in the mouth. Time to go walk around with my Dolphins cap and stare at people wearing Vikings jerseys.

  3. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I remember when we played the Vikings at the Fest October 16th 2022. There were plenty of Vikings fans in FLA for that game. I believe Skylar Thompson started the game and got injured and then Teddy Bridgewater came in for Thompson. We lost the game 24-16, and there were much more Vikings fan at Hard Rock than Dolphins fans. Sad situation, but I can understand Vikings fans getting some vacation time in FLA, that’s for sure. I don’t expect there to be a large contingency of Dolphins fans traveling to Minny on the other hand

  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t really understand our special teams. We brought in “Competition” but kept the wrong guys. It was obvious to me and I was confused as to why at the time.

Two days before the game and we only have 52 players on the roster.

    Why is that?

  8. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    INJURIES

    • RB Jaylen Wright (foot) is expected to play in Sunday’s game against Minnesota, coach Jeff Hafley said.
    • WR Caleb Douglas (ankle) won’t play Sunday, per Hafley.
    • C Aaron Brewer (hand) is expected to play Sunday, per Hafley.
    • Edge Robert Beal Jr. (hamstring) ruled out
  9. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Rock,

it’s all in good fun. It sparks some great conversations. I just had one with a gal buying groceries today. She thinks it’s gonna be a bloodbath. I pointed out that she was taller than their QB. Lol

  10. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The Miami Dolphins are missing a big piece along their defensive line early in the season, as former first-round pick Kenneth Grant has been on injured reserve to start the year.

Grant suffered an undisclosed injury in the preseason that landed him on injured reserve as the team cut their roster from 90 players down to 53. He has to miss at least four games before returning to the field.

On Friday, Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley provided a positive update on Grant’s status.

“I think he’s kind of grown a little bit impatient,” Hafley said. “He feels better. He’s eager to get going. He looks good right now. We’ve missed him, and that’s not a knock on anybody that’s out there, but we’ll be excited and hopeful that we’ll have him back sooner than later.”

Hafley went on to say that Grant could return as early as next week, but he didn’t want to give any definites because he wants to see how the defensive lineman looks in his return to the practice field.

  11. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

This is a funny line from Sport Illustrated “Three Bold Predictions”

The battle between the Vikings’ offense and the Dolphins’ defense is one between a stoppable force and a moveable object. Minnesota’s -0.19 EPA per play is tied for the fourth-worst mark in football through three weeks, while Miami’s 0.15 EPA per play allowed is dead last among defenses.

  12. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Of course we play another undefeated team, this young team is being challenged right off the bat. 3 of the first 4 on the road too.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

They sure are and that’s a good thing. Going in to Blitzville this weekend will be another big test.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

According to CBS Sports Research, there have been only 10 instances in NFL history where a team played three games through three weeks against opponents that all entered Week 4 with a 3-0 record (a strength-of-schedule rating of 1.000). Out of those 10 teams, only the 1986 Eagles and the 2026 Dolphins had to face yet another undefeated team in Week 4, making it a rare four-game stretch

There is a photo out there that shows a ref throwing the flag before the Chop hit on Mahomes was done. Not sure if it’s real or not. I had trouble trying to get the link.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The other day I heard somewhere that the ref was already grabbing the flag before the hit. It was a comment on a highlight video but the video didn’t show the ref. It did show the flag hitting the ground around the same time Mahomes did or a split second after.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It was pre determined. The league can’t have the Dolphins putting the Chiefs in that position. The same shift went on with the Pats.

    BBM,

Ohio State is my most hated opponent. Can’t stand them. Ferentz is still okay with an offense that scores 12 points, so it’s always stressful. Lol

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

FS Zach Lutmer had his biggest game of the season against Michigan. They will need another big performance from him again.

Iowa players I like are FS Lutmer, OT Lauck, OG Pieper and TE Vonnahme.

  17. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Anybody follow Oklahoma State? I’m kinda starting to like Mestemaker. Any chance he would come out this year?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I have followed Mestemaker since his freshman year at North Texas. There is a chance. I think, for him, it depends on who of the top QB’s enter the draft that could push him down the pecking order.

He really likes his HC. If he isn’t considered a 1st rounder, I think he stays.

I didn’t post my post week 3 mock draft but I took Mestemaker at #33.

  18. Randy's avatar Randy says:

If we can somehow stop their running game and put it on Murray, I’ll take my chances. Jefferson is still out too. We need to score points, but we may not need to score a lot.

Rodriguez et al can, hopefully, contain Murray. Hit him hard a couple times, and he’ll be looking toward the sideline.

I won’t doubt you, but if what you’re saying is true, you’re talking about conspiracy.

You’ll remember we would have beaten the Chefs* in the UK if it weren’t for ‘Reek’s stupid fumble, returned for a TD by their Defense. And that same season, we played the Chefs* at Arrowhead with -30 degree windchills in the Wildcard game… some fans even suffered frostbite as a result.

That same day, the Bills’ Wildcard game got postponed (snow)… yet we SoFlo Phins were forced to play in a game that sent many fans to the hospital with frostbite.

    Just sayin’… 😉

Randy, you mentioned Oklahoma State and Drew Mestemaker. I really like their RB Caleb Hawkins, 6’0, 219.

  25. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Mike E,

    Very good write, as usche.

“Chris Bell, who is clearly not right yet physically…” in your write above…

Then why are we playing him, I ask? To tempt fate for him to re-injure his knee is going to KILL US down the road.

I’m not saying you’re wrong or right, but why on EARTH would we be playing him if he’s not right yet, physically? That’s a very dangerous game to play with our future.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think he’s physically not right, it’s more about the mental and the system. At some point he’s going to breakout with some nice performances. He’s also a rookie.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

his knee is structurally sound, but he has been experiencing pain, Zauel and fluid on his surgically repaired knee. So he’s not 100%
But he’s in the same boat as 1000 other NFL players you have to play through it if it’s structurally sound

  26. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Welp… it was nice going 3-0 to begin the season, PSU.

    SMH at tonight’s performance.

  27. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – I don’t mean he’s injured and in danger of it getting worse, I mean that Bell just hasn’t gotten himself to 100% on his game. He has been dealing with some issues with his knee, but nothing major, and he has played through it. He might not be all the way back until near the end of the season or next season, but he’s getting great experience playing regardless.

    https://x.com/Tonysmarkettips/status/2106051077993021863

Two additional comments. Sieler was flagged for a dubious hold on the same play and the Chiefs would have had a 1st down anyway. Without following the line of sight of the referee or seeing the hold it’s difficult to prove or disprove either way. It’s like a ton of calls in the NFL which can be spun 2 ways.

Last point of note, NFL poster boy will always get the call. It has a product to sell and the hype starts there. It was also interesting that on Poup’s timeline a day or 2 ago someone posted an older DE of ours (forgot who) several years ago attempting to appease the NFL by unnaturally twisting his body away from the QB. There was so much torque going through his knee that his ligaments pinged and it ended his career.

    The game’s gone 🤷‍♂️

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The game we grew up watching is long gone for sure. Hits used to be the celebrated highlights you would see. Receivers were not protected, and QB’s were only protected by their offensive lines. You could not not only tackle QB’s then you could throw them to the ground, land on them and crush them. If it were only a couple of steps after they threw the ball you could still deliver a good hit. Now a receiver crossing the middle has to be allowed freedom, you can’t just set up to drill that receiver while they’re trying to make the catch. You can try and deflect the ball but you can’t try to knock the receiver to tommorow like you used to.

I can still watch this new brand of football, but there are things that they do that drive me crazy. The language that defines certain calls are still so vague, like the definition of a catch. It should be as simple as you catch the football with both feet on the ground, and then whatever happens after that is fair game. If you get hit and lose the ball, it’s a fumble, not an incomplete pass. This whole “football move” nonsense just blurs the line for vague interpretation that they can spin however they want when they choose.

Got ya. I would have phrased it differently in your write above, but that’s just me. All good!

  34. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think throwing the ball 40 times against the Vikings is a good idea. Take them out of what they want to do. Hats on hats physical football.

  35. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I think the only way we throw the ball 40+ times is if the Vikes get out to an early lead or suddenly surge at some point. Our Defense (or lack thereof) will dictate whether that happens.

  36. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So long as we don’t end up at 0-17 for the season, I don’t really care what our record ends up being. I agree with Coach Haf: our progress won’t be gauged by our W-L record.

We just want to see tangible growth — week in and week out — in order to assess the players in this given system.

The ONLY thing that concerns me right now? How can Malik Willis be assessed properly with Achane out for the season? I mean, we were going to run with success WITH Achane (on paper). We may be throwing more often than we’d like with the abysmal YPC shown by Ollie and Jaylen.

I want to see our Defense collectively step up as a result, and I want to see the right side of our O-Line get better with gel-time.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And of course, I’d like to see both Ollie and Jaylen grow with every snap they take in Achane’s absence for the rest of the season.

  37. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

3 more games (including tomorrow’s game @ the Vikings) before beginning to critique/assess anything regarding our ’26 Phins.

Don’t mistake that with mere observations we’ve all given to date… which means essentially nothing only 3 games in. Let’s see how we adjust, how we gameplan, how we adjust at halftime (for example), who we can rely upon, who just isn’t cutting the mustard, and notable trends (trends can’t be assessed after a mere 3 games).

  38. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I think this team’s only realistic option is to keep games close by limiting scoring and controlling TOP. That means more running and probably bigger packages. We simply haven’t shown we have the passing game to compete yet.

The downside is the Vikes have one of the best run defenses in the league so far. I think Willis will have to come up with some plays to win. I’m not sold on their offense either, so keep it a low one score game and try to win it in the end.

M13’s boy Dallas Turner has been coming on of late, and VGK is gonna be looking to pick off an underneath pass to a TE or two.

  39. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,

By the way, Donovan Jackson is balling. The Vikes have an outstanding left side with he and Darrisaw.

  40. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If you want to establish a physical style of football you have to play like it. We did that last week. Keep it going.

Not sure what direction I may go for my post week 4 mock draft. Might not be Jeremiah Smith. I might decide to trade down and still take one of the Indiana WR’s in Charlie Becker or Nick Marsh. Nick Marsh is an underrated stud partially due to noodle arm QB Josh Hoover. Marsh is 6’3, 210 runs a 4.38 and is probably the best blocking WR in college football.

I may go QB with the first pick.

If we go QB next year, Mensah is the QB I want. He has so much control out there; he’s calm, smart, and extremely accurate. Also, while he’s not Willis running the ball, he looks more like Tyreek back there compared to Tua. His running reminds me a lot of Mahomes.

With that said, if they don’t go QB, then Jeremiah Smith has to be strongly considered. I HATE 1st-round WRs, but Smith is a once-a-decade type of receiver. He’s a Calvin Johnson or Randy Moss type impact player!!!

  55. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The draft for us will depend on whether we actually get the first pick in the draft. If we do, the next big thing will be if any of the QB’s make themselves the most worthy of that top pick. If one QB clearly stands above all, that could be an excellent opportunity to cash in on whole lot of draft capital. Unless of course we really love that QB for us, keep building the team with top level young talent and go from there.

    Chris Bell breakout game today!

  62. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Anyone watching the Colts vs Redskins game? Does your video feed look like it’s underwater? Not sure WTF is up. Watching it on YouTubeTV and it looks like trash

  63. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    bills cheats tied up 77

  64. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m watching the Patsies* @ Bills game. Keep forgetting who to root for and against, being I despise both teams.

For the record, I’m pinching my nose and rooting for the Patsies* to knock off the undefeated Bills.

  65. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ja’Marr Chase just left the Bengals game with a possible concussion. He got face masked and then clobbered. Helmet to helmet hit and then his helmet hit the ground. He walked to the locker room, but I’d be surprised if he’s back in the game

  66. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Patsies* TD on a Stevenson run. 14-7, Patsies*.

  67. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Rockphin,

Same, I can’t stand Taylor Swift… and it has absolutely nothing to do with Kelce. I think her voice is annoying, she’s not what I would call sexy, she’s overexposed (she’s EVERYWHERE), and her fans are cult-like.

Plus, she’s made a living off of all her bad experiences in dating men… never positive, always negative. Personally, I think she’s the common denominator as to why all of her relationships have sucked. Not a good role model for our young women to look up to, but that’s just my $.02.

Our entire society needs an interjection of positivity.

  68. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Josh Allen with another rushing TD for his career.

  69. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

NYG LB Arvelle Reese all over the place making plays! He looks really good!

  70. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Freakish INT for the Bills, converting it for a FG. 17-14, Bills at the half.

  71. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Patsies* back on top. 21-17.

  72. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    GO PHINS!!!

    LET’S GO!!!

  73. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    SIELER with the SACK!

  74. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    A sack! Go Sieler!

  75. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Malik really fucked up that punt return

  76. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    We can’t run.

  77. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We have so much work to do on special teams. Two huge returns for the Vikings, one muffed punt return by us. There’s no reason for this. Fix it!!

  78. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

OL didn’t make anything for Wright that first drive.

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Jacob Rodriguez very active so far!

  80. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Texans defense was supposed to be good. SMH

  81. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We haven’t done one thing right on special teams. 🤬

  82. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Nice second effort on a 3rd and 5 scramble by Willis

  83. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    We’ve got another flag-fest today.

  84. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Austin Jackson SUCKS.

  85. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I know this is a young team but why did Hafley hire one of the worst ST coaches to coach them. Coverage has sucked, a penalty and then just watched the ball bounce up the field 15 yards before downing it.

  86. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

we have a bunch of cards playing, let’s watch the ball bounce upheld and not down it

if Malik doesn’t pull the ball away from #4 he gets tackled at the 1

  87. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    O looks offensive without Achane

  88. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

He’s now ‘Awful Austin Jackson’ to me.

  89. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    UCHE with a SACK!

  90. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

WOW.. Malik killed on the Punt return. OUCH. Should have called for the fair catch.

  91. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,

PP has 2 penalties and is getting walked. Not sure why you’re focused on Jackson. The whole OL looks bad.

  92. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    CHRIS BELL!!!

  93. Randy's avatar Randy says:

PP got away with another hold on that play.

  94. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    SMFH

  95. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Wonder if we could have challenged that call

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

its usually not something an official misses, but this season anything in the neighborhood is likely to be called

  96. Randy's avatar Randy says:

My daughter has become a Viking fan. She just texted and said she was gonna be embarrassed if they lost. I said I was thinking the same thing. Lol

  97. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

You got to be kidding me. Technology with camera coverage you would think they would give us a better camera angle on whether he stepped out or not.

  98. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I want to reiterate: this is a bloody flag-fest.
