Enough about polishing weapons though…instead, let’s talk about polished receivers. Is there any receiver in this draft more polished than Amari Cooper?
Cooper does everything well! He catches the ball well, he runs fast, he runs clean routes, he attacks the ball in the air, he’s quick, he’s physical.
During the College football season, most experts expected Cooper to be the first receiver off the board. But lately – not so much. So what gives? Well Probably nothing, teams have probably just become a little more enamored with bigger and faster receivers. Cooper is probably still the most NFL ready receiver in this draft.
Cooper was extremely productive at Alabama. In three years he compiled 3,463 yards and 228 catches. He had an eye opening 31 TDs as well. Impressive right? Cooper’s actually been the Crimson Tide’s #1 receiver since he was a freshman in 2012. Considering the incredible talent at Alabama, that’s a heck of an achievement. Cooper’s career was capped off as a runner up for the Heisman Trophy and the winner of the Belitnikoff Trophy.
Expect Cooper to make an immediate impact in the NFL. What I really like about Cooper is his physicality. He’s not afraid to mix it up with DBs and sometimes in the NFL, that is what it takes. You don’t hear as much about Cooper’s combine or Pro Day numbers, but he did run a 4.42 40 yard dash. He also had the top performance at the combine in the 3-cone drill and the 20-yard shuttle. Cooper is very agile.
Somehow all these numbers haven’t been talked about as much as the Kevin White or Breshad Perriman numbers. Which is why Cooper is a sneaky but reliable weapon. Kind of like that Self Destruct Button I was polishing. If Cooper was an Alien Weapon of Destruction he would be a Tricky Self Destruct Button.

Is it possible that Kevin White or Devante Parker, or Breshad Perriman, or even those 2nd tier guys like Strong, Coates, Agholor, Dorsett etc. have better careers? Sure it is, but if you want a WR that’s ready to go immediately and contribute like a veteran, it’s Amari Cooper.

Before his pro day I have seen him listed as a 4th round pick our sources are obviously different but I have seen him listed as a 2nd tier prospect in multiple sources
It’s interesting to look at the grades at all the positions. You see there are only a handful they think are top dogs and then a bunch are all in the 6.0 – 6.3 range.

If you’re going to rebuild, and Rivers has only 1 more year after this year on his contract, it makes sense for the Chargers if they get the right compensation, whatever that is they decide is good for their team. As far as the Titans, they wouldn’t do this do this deal unless Rivers was going to sign a 4-6 year contract. If I look at it from the Titans perspective, it seems murky to me, why they would want Rivers. From the Chargers perspective it makes all the sense in the world to me.

There is no guard rated in the 1st round. All the OL are tackles and some of them can play guard. The thinking for Miami is one of these guys gives us depth if Albert isn’t ready or even worse has a setback, and they could also compete at guard for now if he is ready and replace him a few years down the road.
Hyde didn’t really think this through and we’re also not drafting higher than #14. LOL
But assuming Hyde has his stats right, he is talking where current guards where drafted……no matter what the projected position going in. And Albert is coming back and on a long contract and just spent a first on James last year. Anyone we pick will either be a G or on the bench.

I’m replying to your 4:06PM post. What if Albert is out the 1st 4 games? You saw what happened to our offense last year, and NO WR is going to fix that. It’s an issue that scares the heck out of me. Yes, we can draft an OG in the 2nd or the 5th,but if Fat Albert can’t go, we’re in trouble.
I think despite the positive reports of his recovery, we should be prepared for a setback, either a minor one, (A month or two extra) or a major one (Can’t play this year). I cringe to think of Dallas Thomas or Jason Fox as our starting T

I think everybody gets way too caught up in prospect rankings, draft projections, mocks, etc.
Most of it is purely stat & measurables driven.
All those draft websites are just like us, wannabe GM’s/Scouts.
When a 7th round player becomes a star and a 1st round player becomes a bust, then it should tell you how flawed the whole BS media & subsequent process is.
I don’t care who or where a player is chosen, just be consistent and hit on at least a third to half the guys you select. 🙂

Nobody we draft is going to be starting day LT. So if it comes to a RT to be a G, I’m not as worried about it. But yep……think somebody to be a starting G is coming our way.

Kinda way i always feel, even if they took a DE or something, id be pretty ok with it, because obviously they have a plan that make that be the best option. I have my ideas that i feel certain players are best for us, but i also only have a limited amount of information and am but one person, where as these people have physically met with a lot of them, they have 100 times the footage of them, they have seen them live multiple times, so to think i am more right than them is just silly. I think ya gotta have to be kinda like that to be able to enjoy the outcome of the draft and be able to approach the new season with out already being negative before even TC starts.
