I don’r think a response to my first post is beer worthy…….but you might be eligible for the supplemental beer draft. 🙂
    *
Does the “Supplemental beer draft” have to be selected from Draft beers? of can he pick a bottled one?

  2. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I want the Phins to trade up just so I can hear the echos of Rock breaking his own shit. LOL

  3. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I know our track record with picks has not been good. I know I have stated my opinion on this multiple times. I know some of you will look at my avitar and not read this post. But I AM AGAINST MOVING UP and throwing away ANY draft pick for ANY player in THIS draft. NOT ONE PLAYER available in this draft will “put us over the top” we have too many needs and need every draft pick we can get. Especially with the cap hell we are going to be in for the next few years. NO TO TRADING UP!

  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am on expedia.com right now looking up flights to NJ so I can fly up there and break Tim’s shit instead. 😉

  11. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Jahn, I am actually not opposed to taking Gurley at 14. I don’t watch much college ball, but he is almost universally considered a stud from everything I have read and his highlights are off the charts. I would love for us to draft a play maker / game changer for once. If Gurley is our pick I will not be smashing anything and will be excited so see how we use him next year. (until we only use him 6-8 times per game next year because we use Miller 10-12 and Gillessee 6-8 times, THEN I will break stuff, but that isn’t until next October at least! )

I think we should offer Collins a contract after he’s not drafted. Call him now, tell him you want to meet, and discuss contract parameters, which of course will be a nice contract for him, but one that would protect us if he’s convicted, or even just unavailable due to an ongoing investigation or trial.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Interesting. I will say, my older brothers did it that way, and taught me to do it that way, but somewhere along the line I felt like the taller the bird, the more effect. LOL…

  23. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

OK, I have changed my AVI again, only for the next few days of the draft and then I’m going to switch back to my Landry avi. No need to take up a collection Naples. LOL

It obviously never set right….That is as close as I can get it to the rest of my hand. LOL

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Nope — was talking about your avi. That was a West Coast middle finger. East Coast is what I put out above.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

well my avi WAS a picture of me shooting the bird. I don’t know about west coast vs east coast birds, I cannot physically get my thumb to tuck in like the drawing you posted so I guess I am a west coast birder by default. LOL

Washington trying to stock up on picks after throwing away 3 first round picks and a second round pick to move up, (what 6 spots?) for RG3?

  29. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

“[Gurley] doesn’t lose a lot of one-on-ones,” says the offensive coach. “That’s something I look for in backs. To me, that’s a difference-maker. The eighth defender in the box, can he consistently beat him or does he get tackled all the time? When you get in the secondary, can he escape or does he get tackled? That’s the difference between average backs and great backs.”

One team official said Gurley’s combine interview was one of the most impressive in recent memory. He’s bigger in person than expected (6-foot-1, 222 pounds), a good thing for a running back who will need to pick up blitzing NFL linebackers. But beyond that, in just 15 minutes, he filled the room with the kind of presence teams like to have in their locker room.

That was on display during the combine workouts, too. Gurley was only able to compete in the bench press, but he turned heads by cheering on the fellow running backs during the 40-yard dashes and position drills, and offering them water, towels and high fives in between events. “Here’s a kid who could possibly be a top-5 or top-10 pick, and he was the biggest cheerleader,” says retired NFL fullback Tony Richardson, who worked with the running backs during the combine as an NFL Legends ambassador. “I was blown away by that.”

  30. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

Why do you say we can’t offer Collins a contract after the draft? Make him an offer now with provisions that if he doesn’t get drafted, he has a contract in place with the Dolphins.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think we can call him now to start making a deal. We have to wait until we can sign UDFAs.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I think discussions with priority free agents traditionally start late in the draft while it’s still going. It’s all hypothetical stuff of course. I’m not sure if you can discuss contract specifics or not, but I recall Ireland calling Bess before the draft was over to try and be first in line to negotiate with him as an UDFA should he fail to be drafted.

  31. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

OK, I will be back later to freak out and dramatically “break shit” later. LOL

  33. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Three Hours!!!!
(Piggy farts and cries at the same time)

  34. D's avatar D says:

I think Collins gets drafted. Some team will care so little for a later round pick that they are fine with drafting him and then pissing it away if he gets brought up on charges. I would not be that team. It will be too much impact for us to lose any picks like that. I know its hard to swallow Mike but the risk just got too high for us. Let some other team deal with that.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

The odds of any 7th rounder making the team are probably no worse than the odds that he’s completely exonerated, so only fear of PR factors should he get charged (or worse, convicted) would preclude any team from taking a late round flier. The upside with him is far far better than any traditional 7th rounder.

      • D's avatar D says:

We dont have a 7th rounder. I would even think some teams could afford a 5th. Again, we should not be that team. This isnt anything we need involved in.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

You’re considering the PR part though, which I gave creedence too. I would say the same with a 7th and a 6th, and probably a 5th. If PR is the reason, so be it. But in terms of the idea it would be a waste of a draft pick, I disagree. It’d be a very good value in terms of risk/reward (on field only).

  35. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

So if Gurley isn’t ready to go early on he’ll stand on the sidelines and do cheers and pat guys on the butt. We can’t get that card in fast enough. LOL

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

For like the 50th time, all reports from the NFL combine drs are that he’s on pace to be 100% by camp. But don’t bother learning anything new. Just keep saying the same thing over and over. Not like anyone’s trying to share actual information with ya.

  42. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    Go Gurley!

He makes the most sense when you consider our current roster & contracts. He’ll help make Tanny special. Like Emmett did for Troy!

  43. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

How could a 1st RD pick on a guy who is coming off knee surgery not risky, but spending a 6th on a very good player who may or may not be in trouble is more risky? I don’t get that at all.

  44. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

The last two years, teams have shied away from investing a first-round pick—and the corresponding guaranteed money, which would be upwards of $12 million for a top-10 pick—in a running back. But last year’s Super Bowl alone was a reminder of what a strong ground game can do for an offense. Seattle nearly rode Marshawn Lynch to a second straight title. New England’s revived rushing attack helped them overcome some early season struggles (and their 46 rushing attempts in the AFC title game was the most they’ve ever had in a playoff game during the Belichick era).

An elite back, especially one who can stay on the field for three downs, can still be a difference maker. Gurley could be this draft’s ultimate risk-reward pick—and the latest prognosis on his knee has him trending toward reward.

“He’s one of the most complete backs to come out in a long time,” the offensive coach says. “You’re not going to make it deep in the playoffs without a run game. If you perceive a guy to be a difference-maker like that, you better get him early.”

Trade up for Parker: not too happy
Trade up for anyone not listed above: may go ballistic
Trade down: reaction will depend on for who and what we get in return

It was a nice move ffr. Have known many people who could have done the same and didn’t. And no matter who could and who has…..still a nice move.

ok if you say so. i didnt say it was a bad move. just i am not impressed by some one in a position to help out others and then when he does think he is a great guy. no biggie

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

For sure. It was a nice move. Don’t think there is any other way to put it. But if it was me I just would have added it into a charity check…….yet that is just me. Gave like 100K in air miles to help military family members one time. So guess I get where he is coming from.

And those that spend 14 hrs a day on here, even when they’re at work don’t 😛

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Little less extreme when some of us have 10 programs open and multi-task than to spend two hours dressing up to go out in public like it’s Halloween. LOL

Not sure why you felt the need to make such a weird comparison.
