It’s (Preseason) GAME DAY! #3

header                 (Header from CBS Sports)

It’s the game that’s traditionally closest to what a regular season game will be.  The starters will likely play a full half and likely into the 3rd Quarter.  It’s the first game the Dolphins will be playing at Sun Life Stadium after an offseason of renovations.  It’s one more game closer to a game that matters.

LET’S GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Yeah but the thing about HS football is all the best players get to choose what school they want to play at. Even in public school my buddies kid couldnt start (QB) at Mcarthur so he transferred him elsewhere.
Private school forget it… Udonis Haslem, Asante Samuel and I wonder how many other Ex pro players can afford to send their athlete kids there.
Look for St. Thomas to win it all every year for a very long time to come…

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

chris evert went there also she tweeted she was watching the game. Did you see brian picollo went there and after every game they play the thyme song from brians song

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

they were showing football celebrities left and right during the game. They play miramar next week I believe they lost to them last year along with don bosco from ohio? You belive how much these HS programs have grown since our days. Hell the St.Thomas’ and Don Bosco’s play nation wide and charter planes.

      • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

they recovered after the first 2 games vs bosco and miramar to win the state title but it cost coach rocco the head coaching job. Their program expects a state title every year and maybe a national title if everything plays out correctly.

  10. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Free agent DB Cortland Finnegan is open to playing in 2015.
Finnegan “retired” in March nine days after being released by the Dolphins. Arguably the league’s worst corner last season, the pint-sized Finnegan is reportedly open to playing safety. Finnegan is just 31, but his career fell off such a cliff following his big deal with the Rams in 2012 that it’s hard to see him generating interest.

  12. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Patriots FB James Develin suffered a broken tibia in the team’s third preseason game.
The injury was originally feared to be an Achilles’ injury. While the broken tibia diagnosis is better, it will still sideline Develin at least half the year and perhaps knock him out for the whole season. The Patriots do not have another full back on the roster.

It’s a numbers game at WR. Stills, Landry, Jennings, Parker, Matthews. I think Byrd might be the 6th guy, but by no means is Hazel a lock. I think it’s appropriate to call him a bubble player at the moment.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I like Byrd a little more that Hazel right now because of his size. He also made a great catch last preseson game.

    I’m picking Byrd over Hazel

The rest should make the 53

The TE battle will be interesting tonight. You can make a case for all three Stoneburner, Semich and Robinson to make it but you can also make a case that we might bring in a third TE after the cut downs.

As for fans here liking Byrd cause of his size….we seem to have that in TE Robinson, he’s 6’4 220 former WR with good hands. Kinda hope he sticks. Might be good seam threat insurance if Cameron gets his bell rung again.

  35. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

  38. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

So we could be playing against Cousins week 1.

Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will start the third preseason game.
Cousins has gotten most of the second-team reps ahead of Colt McCoy, so this is not that surprising. With Robert Griffin III (concussion) sidelined indefinitely, Cousins could open the season as the Redskins’ starter.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Talk radio is all about rg3 being in the ours in wash this morning

But I really think there is a chance rg3 might start week 1

The only thing the redskins did was bench him after a concussion in game 2
For all we know that can be Snyder’s call to preserve him in the reg season

I do think Gruden and him are at impasse
I’m just bit sure Snyder is going to allow Gruden to move forward with rg3

  39. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    Son I don’t think we keep 4 TE’s

But it could get down to the best out of the 2 TE’s and the 2 WR’s!
They may keep the best player of the 4?

Which is what I want them to do!

Keep the best, Cut the rest! 😉

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t even know that they keep 3
      Which is odd

      Stoneburner?
      Robinson?

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Our first 6 games are somewhat light

      Wash
      Jax
      Bills
      Jets in London
      Titans
      Texans

I guess the fest game is the toughest

But I hope we can at least be 4-2 after 6 games
The next part of the schedule is tougher

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If we’re only 4-2 after 6 we’re in trouble of not making the playoffs. That stretch that follows Ne, Buff, Phil all away is going to be brutal, then it slows down to getting the Cowboys at home.

  45. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The thing with Cameron is not that he’s injury-prone, he had a few concussions. It’s not like he has a knee issue or something like that. He was also cleared as having no concussion symptoms months ago so until he takes a bad hit to the head I’m not going to view him as an injury risk.

Talk about your life changing in one afternoon.

Best man at my wedding had a custody hearing for his 4-year-old daughter yesterday. He thought his wife was bat shit crazy (and she’s done some stuff indicating that), but never really thought he’d get custody even if he wanted to try for the sake of his kid.

Turns out the court-ordered psych evaluator agreed with him — the mom is bat shit crazy. He was awarded full custody.

Best for the kid, but my bud’s next 15 years or so just became real different.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s what he wanted though right?

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

He wanted it cause it was best for the daughter. My guess is that if he had the option he would have taken a good Mom and the standard Dad visitation.

So yeah it was a victory…….but his life going forward is going to be real different than what he thought when he woke up that day.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m sure he isn’t complaining. A guy I used to work with had a similar situation and got both kids, but since then the kids went back to Denver to live with their mother. This guy had to quit work to pull out his retirement money to pay off the divorce lawyer. The plan was to get rehired the next day, but they wouldn’t hire him back… To make it short he’s now back in Denver working for a Silicon Valley software co. remotely. He’s a big Broncos fan…

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I suppose I like them collectively because there is a need to suspend your disbelief when reading them, though that allows for a greater expression of truth, if you follow that. You and I may have talked about this once before, a few years back.
The genre of those are primarily fantasy, with some sci-fi/steam-punk elements…

  71. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Hey Try,

Have you tried Abercrombie, Rothfuss, Bakker or Gemmell? Those are some great books. Gemmell is simple but fun. Bakker’s “Prince of Nothing” books are a little similar to Erickson in introspection but much darker and grittier (I like Erickson a lot better mostly because Bakker is so very dark and heavy on the philosophy), Rothfuss is new and amazing (only two books). Abercrombie “The First Law” trilogy is a very nice, tight story (cue FFR).

Eddings: if you liked the Belgariad and Malloren have you read “The Elenium”? Similarly constructed story. An Eddings fan will like that.

A little known trilogy that is one of my favorites of all time is by C.S. Friedman: “The Coldfire” trilogy. Excellent story with some awesome concepts.

Then there are classic authors you may have already read but I’ll throw out there just in case, like Zelazny “Amber” series, Raymond Feist “Riftwar” series. Both good series.

I’d recommend any of these as good stories for fantasy readers.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

another simple but fun series is Steven Brust “Vlad Taltos” series.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I’ve got Gemmell in the pipeline. I’ve heard of the Friedman series from others, so that’s a definite possibility, and Rothfuss has/had a buzz around him recently (I think). I did read the Elenium- forgot about that one..
      Thanks!

My brother and I were talking about this last week. at the time, their staff had given up over 80 runs less than the Mets staff. The Cardinals don’t get enough credit because they are expected to play like this every year.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Brian — with all respect brother……..credit? My team would be running away with four of the six divisions……..but yet they are four back. Guess if we talk respect it might be about the playoff run. They are deep in pitching (which gets you wins in the standings), but do they have the three on the mound come October?

Trypod yes I know we did discuss this. I am surprised that you remember that. I am intrigued to see if I could write one of those. I do think telling the truth requires lying. I would not want to rely on the supernatural for escaping plot cul de sacs, but I could spring for some psychic hierarchy among the characters in which the ultimate practitioners operated on a plane exponentially more aware than the average citizens. Would that be enough? I could throw in a dragon or a shapeshifter if needed.

I don’t know that I have the patience to write- I don’t think I could even remotely advise you as to what elements you might have to consider, for obvious reasons. Your right on lying is related to my point, though; you can bring in elements that don’t exist in the “real world”, too prove or at least express some universal truths…?

lmao. what a fucking idiot. so breaking the rules and out right caught cheating is considered a smart, shrewd organization.

My lucky to alive beat Stanger’s cigarette butt story

Bout 20 minutes after I posted that RG3 post above (which I posted after I finished a crossfit class at noon)

I was getting ready to drive to the beach
I’m not at the beach now
    Here is why

I stopped at Jamba Juice to get a smoothie
    I got a kale smoothie (don’t judge)

Then I headed toward the subway at park ave and 34th
(I take that uptown and get my car and go the the beach)

There is construction on 34th street as I cross Madison ave
This group of workers is working in the middle of Madison ave (and 34th) sort of a big intersection by NYC if you don’t know

They have a hole in the street they drilled through
They have this air hose from the hole (might be to power tools or soemthig)
It crosses the street to the other side of the street to a truck (I think) I didn’t see the end of it
I’m guess the hose is somewhere between 4-6 inches in diameter
And in a portion on the crosswalk, where people like me walk, they have a cover, which is like a portable mini ramp for people to step on and over
It covers like 4-5 feet of the hose
    Looks normal – looks professional
    Nothing weird

They are taking most of Madison Ave up doing work
But they have a lane for eastbound traffic
But they have a guy with a sign that says slow making sure cars slow down as they cross over the hose

For some reason this is went cement on the curb
    Not like cement in use
Like leaking cement, leaking away from main work

So I’m walking on the crosswalk
    Drinking my smoothie
    Minding my own business
    Crossing over the ramp

All the sudden it is moving

I look and the ramp and the hose is 2 feet or soemthing off the ground and coming towards me fast!

It come completely takes out my legs from under me
(I’m like thinking mid air that I’m about to die or lose my legs or soemthing horrific)

But it wasn’t that bad I hit the ground and land in my elbow and ass I think
    Bc they both hurt now

The thing keeps going forward and take our one other dude ing front of me
But I got the worst of it

I’m aerating one of those Underarmour black work out shirts
It’s now kale green and cement green
I think I got dragged like 2 feet

Turns out., the hose in the street caught a truck passig by
Which pulled the whole thing out
One of the workers Jack hammer got pulled down to the other side of the street…lol

I hung around and hit the info of the workers, truck driver and the police made a report

Then I went home took a shower and now I’m having a beer and fish tacos
    No beach today
I’ve already had to much adventure

    • herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

Wow, that sounds awful. Glad you are ok,

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Whoa bro, that’s crazy. Glad you’re okay.

Love fish tacos of all kinds. LOL

Seriously, tilapia, cabbage, maybe other veg type stuff and a spicy sauce yum!

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        They were flounder
        I like Cod the best
I’m not a fan of tilapia

I do love fish tacos though

If I went to long beach today
I would have been eating some cod fish tacos right now at a place called jette
        Yum

But I settled for this bar next to my UES apt and there flounder fish tacos
I don’t want to drive a cAr right now
        I’m a little freaked out

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Yeah
I was literally in the air thinking to myself that I was fucked
And I really thought I was going to loose my legs or soemthing horrific
It looked like something you see in a final destination movie

      But I just got upended
And landed on my back side

Right now the only thing that really hurts is my right ring finger which feels like when your finger gets jammed or soemthing

Very minor shit considering what could have happened

Piggy and others, so this is a way to watch the PS games if you haven’t already done so. Sign up for the NFL GoPass free 7 day trial. That will cover tonight’s game and Thursday and cancel on Friday if you don’t want to keep it for $99 for the year. 🙂

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Sounds good

    • herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

I just signed up. I’ve also saved the cancellation email in my draft folder so it’s ready to go on Friday after our game on Thursday. 🙂

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

        I did the same. LOL

I’m pondering continuing it though because I can re-watch RS games and get the all 22 coaches film. Not sure I need that but I’m considering it.

    Kong,
What am i going to read next? I’ve read all Donaldson, plus WOT, Malazan, GOT, shannara, tamuli, malorean, belgariad… ?

Try Pod, I know you didn’t ask me but I have read every one of those series and they are all great. Have you read Raymond E. Fiest? The Rift War Saga is a good place to start with Pug the Magician’s Apprentice. He was PROLIFIC and his books are good.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Terry Goodkind also has a very long series that is pretty good. The Wizards First Rule is the first book in that series.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Thank you Rock. I’ve always been reluctant to read Feist for some reason- to techy maybe, our too much reliance on berserkers? For some reason, I may have read magicians apprentice, though.
I have read most of Brooks, a lot of Anthony, Chalker, some others I can’t remember… Plus crime novels, etc.

Piggy, lesson learned. Avoid walking by heavy construction. Anything can happen with heavy equipment and such.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Yeah

It’s so common in NYC though

I didn’t even think about it

As I was waiting for the cops to arrive
      Another car pulled the hose

But this time it just disconnect at the joint and went crazy blowing air all over the street

I don’t really think so workers knew wtf they were doing

  87. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, on fish tacos, you like flounder and cod but not tilapia? To me they’re all flaky white fish and similar.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Tilapia is really flimsy IMO
      I never like it

Cod is sort of just more dense
      It’s full of protein
      I love cod
I could eat that all day
      Not tilapia though

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Huh! I don’t really feel or taste much of a difference with everything else going on. Maybe as a dish of fish, but not in a taco.

Wyoming, I enjoyed L. E. Modesitt Jr.’s Recluse Saga, Although I was a little off put at first by his use of technology in his universe. I prefer my fantasy to be a little more pre-techlogical. Although WOT was turning at the end due to the schools Rand established. I guess you can say I like a little less science in my science fiction. LOL

I have 50 guys on my roster contest. I’m looking at a 3rd TE, a 6th CB and someone else to make it 53. Tonight should confirm some of it.

Boulder, we should wait until the cut down to 75 before closing.
