During the summer, when we wait for the football season to begin and swim in the ocean
We fear what might be beneath the surface of the ocean…
Sharks scare all of us.
And there is no shark more fearsome than:
THE GREAT WHITE SHARK

But not all sharks are so great.
There is at least one who is
well…kind of mediocre…

Meet The Mediocre White
slightly less accomplished than some of the other white sharks
and like you…a fan of the Miami Dolphins

On an August afternoon the Mediocre White was hunting seals with a two of his shark buddies
They found the perfect spot and were ready to feast.
The first Great White turned to the other Great White barely noticing the Mediocre White lagging behind both of them.
“What’s your plan?”
The Second Great White responded “I’m gonna go deep, get a big push and leap out of the water with the biggest seal in my jaws”
“Nice!”, the first Great White responded
“You’ll get in National Geographic…I plan something a little more dubious…I’m gonna bite a baby by the back of its’ tail, drag it a little father out to the ocean, wait for its’ mother to swim out to the baby, then eat her. Then I’ll eat the baby for dessert”
Impressed, the Second Great White turned to the Mediocre White “How about you?”

“Oh me?” The Mediocre Shark was barely paying attention
“Um…you know dude…I’m gonna like, put my fin above the water and like circle the seals and then eat one”
“lame” interrupted the First Great White
“What happened to you man? ” The Second Great White disappointedly said, “You used to be great. Now you are so…Mediocre…”
The two Great Whites swan away leaving The Mediocre White.
That day The Mediocre White didn’t eat any seals. Instead he thought to himself
WHAT HAPPENED…
In the 70’s he was Great.
One year, in 1972, he was perfect, never missing a seal or a human he hunted.
Those were the days, The Mediocre White was the envy of all the other sharks. He ate whatever he liked, he spawned with whatever shark he liked, he even roomed with Steven Spielberg in college. Some say he was the inspiration for Jaws.

Though he never achieved perfection again. He had some great moments after the 70’s.
In the early 80’s The Mediocre White continued to be a fearsome hunter in the ocean. At the same time he enjoyed watching the Dolphins make Super Bowl runs.
Despite a chum strike in ’82, he finished second among all sharks in surfer limbs eaten. Only a shark named Riggins ate more arms that year.
In ’83, he grew his greatest rookie tooth. By the tooth’s second year he was setting records for flesh eaten.
The Mediocre White almost enjoyed the new tooth as much as he enjoyed watching Dan Marino throw the ball.

By 1985 The Mediocre Shark was making great memories by eating Bears on prime time.
But as great as the tooth was, the Mediocre White failed to surround his tooth with quality other teeth.
Defensively, everything got through his mouth, and he found himself forced to digest entire scuba divers, tanks and all.
Unbelievably, during the tooth’s entire career, the shark failed to hunt down a 1000 yard swimmer.
Eventually when that special tooth fell out, the Mediocre Shark wondered if he was ever achieve what he did in the 70’s again.
Meanwhile the Dolphins moved from Don Shula to Jimmy Johnson to Dave Wannstedt
The Dolphins had a few great players in that time: Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas…Ricky Williams lead the league in rushing one year. And like the Dolphins the Mediocre White enjoyed eating an occasional swimmer.
But it was not what it used to be. He wasn’t really Great anymore…
Now it seemed these up and coming New England Sharks were eaten all the best humans
By the end of Wannstedts tenure it became obvious…he was just mediocre now…
So he left hunting and went in a different direction.
The Mediocre Shark took up engineering.
He wanted to build something. Just like he believed Nick Saban wanted to build something with the Dolphins.
In his first building project he built the Daunte Culpepper Bridge:

Saban would not accept failure and either would Mediocre White.
He really insisted on Building something!
Like Saban, his next building project made people cry.

So Saban would leave the Dolphins and The Mediocre White would leave engineering.
Now he was ready for a new direction.
The Dolphins hired Cam Cameron and The Mediocre White took up work as a Park Ranger.
At a county meeting he attend determine to make a difference
“Broh’s” he pleaded to the County Council,
“We need to stop the deer deaths on the highway”
The Mediocre White raised his fin, “I propose we move the deer crossing signs away from the highway to a place less dangerous for the deer to cross, we should move the signs to the middle of the forrest”.

That year deer deaths on the highway increased by 800%
As the Dolphins moved on from Cam Cameron The Mediocre White also moved on from being a Park Ranger.
The Big Tuna was ready to turn things around for the Dolphins and the Mediocre White was ready to turn things around for himself as well. He took a job with the City.
Everyone assumed given his prior history of greatness, like the Tuna, he would excel.
They gave him a simple task. The streets need to be painted to make them safer.
Any shark can do that right?

Well…maybe not this shark…
He failed at first

and failed again.
eventually…the Dolphins found themselves in the Ireland era
And the Mediocre White found himself operating a draw bridge
He was a colossal fuck up…like Jeff Ireland

So the Dolphins found themselves in the Philbin era
and The Mediocre Shark found himself bouncing around from odd job to odd job
he tried parking cars as a valet

That didn’t last long
So he got a job as a custodian
but he often found himself late at performing his duties…

He really wasn’t very good at anything anymore…
But we all know what he is:
He is a hunter!
The 2016 football season has not started yet…
The Mediocre White wants to be Great again
Is this the year?

tanny and the rest of the team need to play better in 4th quarter when game is on the line. That’s the main thing I hope happens this year.
Agreed, as opposed to everyone falling apart? LOL
drg, “Not saying he isn’t a great player, but an average team shouldn’t target him and pay him the biggest FA contract in history thinking it will take them to the next level.”
Mike E and I have had this discussion. We were not a Suh away like the Packers were when they signed Reggie White. Last year blew up in our face, no doubt. That doesn’t mean Suh in his prime doesn’t have a monster season this year which I think he’s going to have. Just a rosy colored glasses homer feeling. LOL
That moment when your phone erases all your music so the only thing you’ve had to listen to all day is the Arabic music your Pakistani coworker downloaded for you.
I like Arabic/Middle Eastern/Indian music. 🙂
drg
I can’t really disagree with what you said. I’m pretty sure I’ve said almost everything you said about Suh, about the way Tannenbaum just loves to jump around in the draft, although I was happy with the draft for the most part. I do think he gets caught up more with wheeling and dealing rather than just picking great players for the roster.
Do you really know it was him and not Grier or is that just perception?
No way of me ever knowing for sure, but it follows the same pattern he’s always operated under, so assuming it was him seems fair to me.
I don’t think TBaum is that entrenched in prospect evaluation at this time. He’s not the personnel guy, he oversees the direction of the team because Ross hired him to do just that. I feel this idea that Grier is a mere puppet is unfair and inaccurate.
He and Gase can say Grier did a great job putting the draft board together and working the draft, but as long as some people say wink wink that makes it true? I don’t think that is how this FO works.
I missed it but apparently Dan Marino was on CNBC’s Power Lunch segment about 2 hours ago .

Can we just let this season play out before we all predict what’s going to happen? Maybe they surprise us. If they don’t we’re used to it. LOL
Passing thoughts from Punta Cana. Yes Hulk working on his tan. He needs to be darker shade of green.
There is a reason why Matt Moore is not a starting Quarterback in the NFL.
Tannehill’s contract is not that onerous when looked at in comparison with other starting QBs.
You don’t build around a DT. They are great and important pieces to have but rarely is a team built around one.
Hulk off to get another pina colada
If you’re starting over building a team and you don’t see a QB available where do you start?
Most sports teams build from the inside out. DT/Edge rusher/C, P/C/SS/CF in baseball, D/G in hockey. It’s always how you win. Barry Sanders was amazing, but…?
Tim:
Of course you build up the line but rarely is a DT the cornerstone/building block of the team. Last one I could think that was that is Sapp
LOL Ken..
I’m jealous.
Where are you at in Punta Cana?
Playa Bavaro? Puntacana Resort & Club development (Playa Blanca)? Cap Cana?
Tim
Is it possible Grier said I like Howard and Carroo, and T-Baum took the reins and did what he thought he had to do to get them?
No
Cespedes!
I think TBaum was more like… okay. Grier is a grizzled vet personnel guy. We didn’t just hire him off the street. He’s cut his teeth in an NFL personnel family with NHL connections which is hi-level sports his whole life. Sometimes fans and media put themselves on the same level with no accomplishment whatsoever! I have to admit it irritates me. When you’re not in the biz, don’t act like you have more intricate opinions because you don’t.
Go with the flow and hope for the best. What… our sports teams owe us something? LMAO!!!!

LOL.
I hear ya.
I’m the same way.
I’m just happy the team has a new coach.
Players come and go all the time (coaches shouldn’t but it has happened around Miami in recent years).
Unlike some of the recent coaching hires, Gase at least called games as a coordinator. Same could not be said for Sparano/Philbin.
True, we’ll see if coaching makes a difference. I hope so along with some new personnel. Sorry if this bothers anyone, but a healthy bought in Mario Williams is superior to OV. Just saying! LOL
Al:
I am at the Hatd Rock
Tim
While Grier is a grizzled veteran personnel guy, Mikey T is a grizzled wheeler dealer, and Grier has never actually made a deal in a draft before, so maybe it was Grier with a guiding hand of Mr. T, but I can’t get myself to believe that Grier happens to deal like a madman just like T-bomb does. I can’t.
I don’t think anyone was a madman. Tunsil falling to us, trading up with that lethal 4th to land a corner who was top 40 on a lot teams’ boards? Forget the pre-draft mock BS – we all targeted prospects we had high values on and some of them went 5th rd on. Check yourself at the door. You’re not really that qualified just because you can read and hear. LOL
If we do get the 3rd, 4th and 7th we expect in the 2017 compensatory draft why does anyone care?
Now if that doesn’t happen but Howard and Carroo ball, do you care? 🙂
No, this is an exercise in futility. I don’t care anymore, I’m happy with the players we got, but I still think T-Bomb had his hand in it. I like our draft, so really, that’s all that matters.
Did you say TBaum had his “hand” in it? LOL
Of course, he replaces Parcells as the Czar of football operations. I just don’t believe the draft trades were the work of TBaum. I really don’t.
The Met’s bats are unstoppable. Fire the manager! LOL
Did they fire Collins???
No just radio banter!
I’m calling an audible on you sorry Tanny doubters!
See, I knew bringing up Tannehill would get everyone to stop talking about Trump and what’s her name. It’s almost like this is a football blog again. Lol
LOL
Trump is ghey and Hillary is not very well appreciated here, so you know? LOL
Tim
I could see Collins getting fired. They need a shakeup. I don’t think it’s his fault, but the team is underachieving for sure. Try to comprehend this. Granderson had about 15 HR’s and 28 RBI’s in June, and now he has 18 HR’s and 31 RBI’s. That’s outrageous. We’re in August!!
397 AB’s, most on the team, and 31 RBI’s. Granted, he did bat leadoff the majority of the time, but still, there are plenty of AB’s when he’s up w/ men on base.
Reyes has 8 RBI’s from the leadoff spot in 67 AB’s. Just for some perspective
Herd must have posed for this tee 😀
Mike, the Mets are a patchwork lineup. Unless we go on a run which isn’t happening as we know, it is what it is. A mediocre team. I loved last year. I’ll take that from the Dolphins in 16/17. LOL
They are, no doubt. It wasn’t always to the degree it is now though. They had their chance. They blew it!
DRG, you can’t worry about a QBs cap hit if he has the potential RT does. You lose him or her doesn’t work out and it could set you back for years. You get rid of him when you’re convinced he can’t be that franchise QB.
Looks like Carlos Gomez is going to be released. Maybe the Mets bring him back too . . . At least he’s a true CF. lol
Drg, should the Colts just get rid of this guy’s huge cap hit now and draft a better one next season? 😉

According to the Indy Star’s Zak Keefer, Andrew Luck has had an “uneven” training camp so far.
This jibes with observations from other Colts beat writers. Per Keefer, Luck has “made some throws that only a few quarterbacks in the league can make,” but also “plenty he’d love to have back.”
I would, he’s injury prone, doesn’t play well early in games…
When’s the draft?
Ask T-Bomb, he’s drooling about all those trades he can make
There’s gonna be some players in the upcoming draft….about 250 of them.
Mets taking a Crap and its Football season, NICE!
If its any consolation MikeE. I dont think the marlins can hang either…
GO PHINS 🙂
I think a lot of this dink n dunk talk by Gase is just him pulling the wool over the eyes of the media, and in turn will surprise the Seahawks on opening weekend when their safeties cheat up into the box.
No question he’ll try to get Parker and Stills over the top, but he’s not going to be fooling anyone.
Depends on the looks we give them….defenses can be baited into mistakes….mark of a real good play caller.
So now we have Houdini playing QB? You sound like Gardenhoser from Rookie of the Year. Naninaibooboo

Mike & Mike, what a couple of idiots. Last night being the first preseason games of the season, these 2 are talking about greenie never having cooked pancakes before, for my entire drive to work. Luckily I have Fox sports available, but what a couple of tools.
Any of you Northern guys looking at going to the Jets game in December?
I have not looked into it yet but I would be up for another mini fest
SB
I may wait to see how our team is doing before I
waste my moneybuy tickets again. If I go, should I bring an extra pair of mittens for you?
My trip would have to be last minute anyway, but yeah if one or both teams are in the hunt then tickets might be pricey. Unless yous guys know a cousin wit da hookup.
I don’t really have any hookups regarding tickets. I’m a casual friend with the Jets CFO, but I’ve never even thought to ask him about game tix, I would feel awkward, he must get tired of people asking him. He’s a real nice guy, but still . . .
They’d have jets stink on them anyway
Anyone here get the preseason package on NFL.com? I haven’t done it yet
Didn’t they stop it last year and you have to buy some entire package for like $99 now?
Ken,
Ah then you are by Bavaro beach….as far up the northern edge of that area goes … good stuff though 🙂
After watching the pats offense last night I think we have a good chance to beat them up there before marsha comes back.
“Eli Manning won’t play on Friday night”
He doesn’t want to get killed by our dline 🙂
Still not sure why some of you don’t think DT is a building block position when so many of them go top 5 in the draft and that’s been going on for years.
Agree.
You can’t have a good DL without a good DT, that’s a given.
A strong team usually has strong line play. It’s an old cliche but its true.
Tim
Shoot, I didn’t know that. I guess I’ll just have to watch the replay on NFLN. No biggie
You should be able to watch the Giants game tonight because you’re local.
Here’s the link to the package.
https://www.nfl.com/gamepass
Game on Channel 9 tonight 7PM.
That’s right, thanks! At least I can see one game live, the rest I’ll watch on replay
Don’t have to worry about conflicts with Mets games anymore, they’re toast!
You can’t win a lot of games when you score 0-3 runs and the only reason you score a few is due to a HR. They don’t have rallies. They waste so many good starting pitching performances.
All true, but I’m more concerned with the lack of hitting and defense from the catching position. I could argue that Lucroy would have been the much better target for us as compared to Jay Bruce. I’m tired of teams running at will. Every single or walk leads to a run.
That too.
Yeah! Does that mean were done with mets talk here😉
Never-ending, I see it doesnt.
I was trying to type, nevermind, I see it doesn’t, but I like the auto correct word better😃
Steve
It’s going to be less and less Mets, unless they magically turn the season around. That’s the best outlook I can give ya. 🙂
Less is more
Trade deadline is already gone, so last year’s magic won’t come from that. I’m really shocked they’ve gone flat, with that pitching staff.
They don’t hit enough.
I saw where i can watch the game Saturday morning on NFL network, anyone have a place where you can watch the game live?
There’s streaming, that someone will no doubt post, but virus beware.
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2016/08/miami-dolphins-scheduled-to-rest-proven-defensive-veterans.html
We have proven defensive players????? lol
Well, it’s proven that they play on the defensive side of the ball
Tonight’s the Night
(the night the night whoooooah)
I just want to see the young players show something. Like Grant on returns.
Hopefully he Grants your wish
Walt Aikens is a guy to keep your eye on. He’s gotten bigger almost 220 and is having a really good camp. He admitted he had a tough season last year but has put a lot of work in during the offseason and is looking to prove he can be a difference maker.
You can see his video here after the two gigglers are done. LOL
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/dolphins-blog/sfl-miami-dolphins-rookie-draft-class-off-to-slow-start-20160812-story.html
220 is awful big for a CB, and if he wants to play S, what about ISA and Reshad?
He’s a safety. He has been playing at 205/210 since he was drafted. He’s listed at 6-1 but looks taller. You need good depth at safety and he’s a very good STs player. Jones, Isa, Thomas and Aikens are our safeties. Thomas also works as a nickel back with McCain.

Mike,
I think next weeks game is on live on NFL Network, and the following week, I think it is on live on one of the major networks (Fox I think)
Awesome! Thanks for the good news Bookman!
Your not the only one who can lend a hand….
LOL – Apparently not
Is that Brian Baldinger’s hand? LOL
Mike, I think what we’ll see at times in sub packages on defense is our safeties playing as nickel LBs. Guys who can hit and tackle but also run.
Where did you get that from? Have you heard of this from practice? Talk of Sua Cravens before the draft, they were saying teams would use him in this type of role, but I haven’t heard of us using it. I could see Jones, Quddus, or maybe even Aikens playing that role, and maybe why Aikens weighs 220 now.
You answered it at the end. They all have good size, are physical and they can run – all legit 4.5 guys. But it was my opinion not something I read or heard. I was thinking about matchups.
I like it, why put an LB into coverage when you have a safety like Jones that can do a better job of covering, and probably tackles better too, then replace Jones’ S spot with another cover DB. If you can’t stop the run its all moot.
Giants starters to play about 15 snaps, they said it could amount to one long drive or 2 small ones. I’m thinking their D will be in for one long drive and their O in for 5 small ones😉
Hey Lazy Admins….It’s Game Day! Where’s the new Game Day Thread???
Aikens is listed at 6-1 218 on the official roster now. He looks more like 6-3 to me but whatever. We need this 2014 4th rd pick to take his game to another level. I remember Gil Brandt thinking he could be a sleeper safety.
Looks like this YouTube feed might work to stream the game:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3YI5SWftIc
Steve, if you’re playing a team with bigger receivers in nickel:
LDE Wake
LDT Suh
RDT Mitchell/Phillips
RDE Williams
LB Alonso
LB Jenkins
CB Maxwell
CB Lippett/Howard/Culliver
SS R. Jones
FS IAQ
NB Aikens
If you’re playing a team with smaller receivers in nickel:
LDE Wake
LDT Suh
RDT Mitchell/Phillips
RDE Williams
LB Alonso
LB Jenkins
CB Maxwell
CB Lippett/Howard/Culliver
SS R. Jones
FS IAQ
NB B. McCain/Thomas
Not a huge difference but it is different.
I like having a choice we’ll see how the team feels.
I think this coaching staff will figure it out, they don’t seem to be stubborn with some predetermined way it has to be done. Parcells old school, my way or the highway, count every other coach we’ve had since Shula in that group.
Getting excited to see some of the team play tonight even though the 1st PS is notoriously sloppy. LOL
Does it matter? We’ll all be bitching shortly.
That’s just silly. I just want to see some young players flash.
Is there a link to watch the game?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3YI5SWftIc
Not sure it’s going to work, but it’s counting down the game time.
Thanks. I’ll check it out
Getting the same weather the game is. It was 100 the last few days and it’s rained every evening.
GDP – Here’s your Dolphins Gameday thread
That’s very pretty Mike….let’s hope the new team isn’t as dainty.
Thanks! I hope not, we’ll see real soon
What’s going on? Why hasn’t the game started yet?
Weather delay, thunderstorm with lightning, made the fans leave the seats and go inside. Starting approximately 7:30 now
Thanks
Lightning.
It’s electric!!!
At least RT is playing, some of these other teams not playing their QB, like the Steelers getting no offense at all and probably aren’t really trying to.
steve
Tannehill is learning a new offense. He probably needs some work. Veteran QBs who are running the same system they have been, don’t so much. Teams are so hyper-concerned about injuries these days…especially to QBs which could derail your whole season. I think we’ll see more and more of this sorta thing unless they start reducing the number of PS games.
We know all of that, I’m talking about from a fans perspective, we wait all offseason, then once the preseason starts no one is playing and the weather isn’t cooperating.
5 minutes they’re going back to NJ, from MiamiDolphins.com
I think they said kick off is 7;56….how precise of them! 😉
And they said 4:30 PM a while ago.
I thought I missed the game
But I guess it hasn’t started yet
🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷
Oinks
every time they make a play there’s a penalty.
You heard it here first!!!
rough start for phins. they allowed a td then 3 and out.
Trying to shake off the stench of the Philbin era
Does Tannehill know he allowed to throw a pass without getting knocked on his ass?
No
When?
I don’t think he knows he’s allowed to throw a pass on the other side of the line of scrimmage.
Tannehill is still Tannehill
Ugh, glad Thomas is our backup OG…
man dallas thomas has no business starting. Why did we draft tunsil?
Omar Kelly @OmarKelly 45s46 seconds ago
Damon Harrison beats Dallas Thomas and hits Ryan Tannehill on a throw. Three plays two QB cream pies. YIKES!
D Thomas is the world record holder for fastest man…running backwards. Runs almost faster than a highly paid DE can keep up with him.
it’ll take time for this oline to gel. Lets hope it happens before seattle.
I haven’t seen one positive sign of anything anywhere just yet. I’ll wait . . .
https://twitter.com/phinsdiehard/status/764253560590794752
he’s a real gem. We should extend him tomorrow.
Omar Kelly @OmarKelly now26 seconds ago
Olivier Vernon nearly sacks Tannehill in the end zone. Different season. Same old stuff.
Ghey?
Here is a positive sign for you Mike
maybe it wasn’t coaching LOL.
Doesn’t seem to matter who’s wearing the aqua and white, no one wants to tackle
2 possessions…8 yards. Gase is going full on grey hair by mid-season.
Fede made a nice play earlier, but McCain was offsides. That could have been a positive
Darkwa sighting
Piggy
Put it on Tannehill’s back (The + sign)
Matt Moore looks like Freddie Mecrury
And plays like Freddie Putz
Pierre Lepew
Uggg
Where’s Doughty?
I’m thinking even with 12 guys we probably wouldn’t have made a tackle.
That was the most blatant PI I’ve seen in a while
ok. So the offense is a work in progress. I’m glad we hired an offensive guru as coach. Think how bad it’d be if we’d hire a defensive coach. 🙂
What a shitty throw
Freddie Mercury has fewer interceptions
“Not enough players on the LOS”
Did we just get penalized bc our OL didn’t show up?
I think they meant not enough “good” OL on the LOS
I think it was the O in the Saturday scrimmage.
Nice return by Grant! 1st positive. Let’s keep ’em coming!
I would be fine if this game was just a return drill for Grant
Why did Williams take Lamar millers number
At least the wide 9 is causing some issues for the Gmen. Clean up the penalties and the D isn’t doing to bad.
Who is our punter
I seriously forgot
Matt Darr, yeah he’ll be our MVP.
Paysinger had him for a loss
And he gains 2 yards
The story of our D! 😦
