Week 3 – Game 2 – N.O. Saints @ Miami Dolphins in London, Wembley Stadium

103116_london_CP2

After a crushing week for the Miami Dolphins, they get to “host” the New Orleans Saints in London at Wembley Stadium.  This has been a bizarre season already, with Hurricane Irma postponing Game 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, then flying to Los Angeles to play the Chargers in the Stub Hub Center, in which the capacity is just a little bigger than the Dolphins practice bubble (30,000 capacity).  We come out of Los Angeles with a victory by the skin of our teeth as Chargers kicker Younghoe Koo goes wide right attempting the game winning 44 yard FG.  Then we travel to New Jersey to face what everyone thought was the “tanking” NY Jets, the team seeking to get the 1st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.  Well, surprise-surprise!  These NY Jets came to play, and though the Dolphins fanbase was present, with Dolfans NYC representing well with over a 1000 screaming Dolfans, along with the many other Dolphins fans that went on their own, they were all soon drowned out by a throaty NY crowd that smelled Dolphins blood in the water.  Attendance at Met Life was 77,562, and it was reportedly quite loud, especially compared to the paltry capacity of the Stub Hub Center in Cali.

Miami Dolphins v New York Jets

The Dolphins offense was completely over matched in all facets against the jets this past weekend.  We tried to run the ball, but there was no room anywhere, as the jets made it a priority to shut down Ajayi. When we gave up on the run game, and became one dimensional, neither jay Cutler, nor the O-line were up to the task, and the Jets defense that had previously swarmed Ajayi on every run was now all over Jay Cutler.  Cutler was sacked 3 times, but he was hit at least 3-4 times that during the game.  It was a bad game for Cutler, a bad game for the O-line, and a bad game for the defense, so basically, we got whipped in every area we could.  The Saints are coming off a blowout 34-13 win against the Carolina Panthers.  Cam Newton was worse than jay Cutler, throwing 3 INT’s and zero TD’s and our old Friend Ted Ginn Jr. caught a 40 YD TD for the Saints.

What can we expect from our team, who has had the strangest beginning to the 2017 NFL season?  I haven’t any idea.  Thankfully, the Saints don’t possess the defensive talent the NY Jets have.  They’re not horrendous, but they don’t have quite the talent of the Jets front 7.  The Saints play the 4-3 defense, led by LDE Cameron Jordan, 2nd year and former 1st RD pick (#12) DT Sheldon Rankins at DT, along with Tyeler Davidson and RDE Alex Okafor.  The Saints do have a quality LB in rookie Alex Anzalone (WLB), and fill it out with AJ Klein (SLB) and Craig Robertson (MLB).  Klein was picked up as a FA from Carolina, and Robertson picked up as a FA from Cleveland, so like Miami, they’re trying to throw pieces together to make it work.  Incidentally, as you all know, Stephone Anthony who the Dolphins traded for last week for a 2018 5th RD draft pick will get a chance to face his former team, as will WR Ted Ginn Jr.  The Saints have a decent secondary with corners Marshon Lattimore and PJ Williams, along with safeties Kenny Vaccaro and Marcus Williams.

The Saints offense is the strength of their team, led by QB Drew Brees, a fine young WR in Michael Thomas, the aforementioned WR Ted Ginn Jr., a good TE in Coby Fleener (AKA FleenAH), and a stable of capable RB’s including Mark Ingram, former Vikes great Adrian Peterson, and promising rookie Alvin Kamara.  The Saints so far are averaging 24.3 PPG, and are 3rd in the NFL in passing yards averaging 378.3 YPG.  See a problem there?  We just made an all-pro out of Josh McCown, so what will Drew Brees and the Saints offense do to us?  First of all, we have to have significantly better balance on offense.  Actually, forget balance, we just need to run the ball down their throats the entire game.  Ajayi is hurting, but he only had 11 carries this week, and I’d bet he’s hungry to have a big game.  I would also guess that we don’t want to put the game squarely on Jay Cutler’s severely diminished arm (Ha!), so this beleaguered O-line gets a shot at redemption by pushing the Saints defense all over the field.  This a “home” game, so hopefully we take advantage of that. On defense, we get a boost from the return of LB Lawrence Timmons from suspension, so hopefully his presence gives us a jolt.  The Saints packed up and left for London Sunday night after a celebratory dinner.  The Dolphins will be traveling to London on Friday.  We’ll see which strategy pays off.

GO DOLPHINS!  Zero in!

I know UK Fin Fan will be in attendance this Sunday, so let’s hope for his sake the Dolphins give him and us a great football Sunday!  We need it!

Lets start with the most important thing……if UK Fin is there then it is a home game. Plus for whatever reason the Phins are one of the most popular teams in the UK. We’ve been there often enough but for whatever reason has always been true.

  2. Phindog's avatar Phindog says:

Nice write Mike E. Ajayi will want to put on a show in London.

  3. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Or maybe should have started with a well-done write. And you are right…..it is the D that faces the test when we all wake up early Sunday. Time for the O to show it. Saints have given up over 400 yards per game….turn it loose.

  4. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Good Job, Mike.

Like I said on the other page, Timmons owes his team and the fans a big game in London. That is the best way to really get back in good graces.

    Is this game nationally televised?

  5. Phindog's avatar Phindog says:

Man I hope our offense puts up a lot of points. It’s just going to be tough doing shots while drinking my coffee at 6:30am. I’m willing to step up though.

How do we watch it? It’s not that stupid Internet streaming is it?

Good points Stanger and Doggy! London seems to like us, and yes, Ajayi will want to wow his home crowd.

It looks like absolute garbage on a 4K TV. It’s 2017 you bastards, get with the damn program! I’m not going to protest the NFL, I’m going to protest FOX!

    #firstworldproblems. 😂

My take on that… I had Sunday ticket for years. Now I have a laptop hooked up to my tv and stream the games for free. Frankly, the last game, the clarity of the picture wasn’t what bothered me. Would have bothered me more to know I paid to watch it. So there’s that.

Budweiser is pulling advertising from the NFL due to protesting.

  16. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Budweiser might pretend, but that’s all they have on us little guys…their ability to afford in game national NFL broadcast advertising. They aren’t going to pull their ads, the cost of losing more market share to us microbreweries is too high.

Expect horrible ratings for this week’s games 😁 and smaller crowds at games. Hit em in the wallet and let’s see how important the protest really is.
    __________
Steve — that would be awesome. Just being selfish but would love to be able to pick up cheap tickets for games. Would also give us better Fest tickets next year at a cheaper price. Not like the NFL is going to go out of business or anything. And ratings last week were down 4% from week 3 in 2016. We can only hope.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

At some point you have to say enough with the skyrocketing prices. I went to TMobile Arena yesterday to buy Vegas hockey tickets. The cheapest they had for the Panthers game, non upper deck was $160. You know how many I bought? Think of Ditka and IQ.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

        “Zero, thats your IQ buddy”

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Right — part of why am hoping you are right that NFL prices go down. Think we would all love that…..would be great if us football fans could get a break on prices. So again hoping you are spot on with your prediction.

  21. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m hoping after our game is played they cancel the rest of the games and make them use their bye week for the makeup game 😁

  22. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

    Tim,
Those people don’t own the flag and no one is disrespecting it in this instance. The flag represents every American, not just the fake patriotic people or the military. What’s being done isn’t justified.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Theyve taken the lazy route and dont really care about what theyre protesting. Do something constructive instead. These guys could easily sent up a meeting with their congressman. Mostly the players are just followers.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tell that to them not me. You can’t deny people feel that way whether you agree with it or not. I know many people who are boycotting. They were already tired of a lot of the players’ acts on and off the field and this was a last straw for them. I’m not boycotting because it doesn’t really offend me. I don’t think it makes much sense nor will it have any effect on anything just like most protests don’t. After all the women’s marches, what’s changed?

  23. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Rock, are you really Canadian or was that guy just dumb? Lol

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I was born in Montreal CA but I have lived here in the US my entire life. The only reason I am not a US citizen is because of the cost and hassle of getting my citizenship. (I do not have a birth certificate. It cost me going on 20K so far to get and keep my green card, but they want MORE paperwork to get my citizenship)

  24. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

but that’s all they have on us little guys…their ability to afford in game national NFL broadcast advertising.

well, that and between them and one other big distributor controlling 99% of the beer trade in the US that is.

  25. People were dumping tv anyway, it’s a trend called cord cutting. The internet has changed the way we watch football, along with many other things in life. The NFL will survive if they lose some racist tv fans, or people that value trump over their existing life.
The NFL has been around over a hundred years, and hasnseen a lot of adversity , but it is America’s number one sport!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Oh so youre labeling some racists, because why, they don’t want politics and flag disrespect in the NFL? It’s such BS the way the word racist has been used since the start of the election. What the left has done is nullified it’s meaning, because everyone that doesn’t agree with them is one.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s not about racism David. I know many people boycotting and they’re not racists. It also doesn’t have much to do about Trump for them. See my post above to SB7.

I know they feel that way. They’re still wrong. I’m just pointing it out.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t know that you can say being sick and tired of certain actions are wrong. It’s a feeling an a opinion. Lots of people boycotted MLB after that last strike and they suffered for years. It’s a choice just like not standing for the anthem.

      • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

If I said that everyone of your posts were racist because that’s my opinion or that’s how I feel or would you say I was wrong? These people aren’t framing the conversation as their feelings or opinions. They are stating accusations as facts. I’m surprised you’re taking this stance.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I already explained why the people I know are doing it. They were already kind of fed up with the game and this was the last straw. It’s no longer fun and an escape from everyday life for them. It’s not my stance, it’s theirs and I’m just sharing what I know about why some people are boycotting. My only stance would be is you can’t tell people to watch and support something they don’t want any part of anymore.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

He’s a god damned propaganda machine. Does it not strike you interesting that 9 months into his 1st year of his first term he’s making announcements about black people’s protest in the NFL from a CAMPAIGN RALLY????

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Jahn, it’s current events and he’s the president. The NFL protests happen to be happening into his 9th month.

So being there is no video of him supporting it and he was not known as a racist before running for president, just saying it over and over makes it true. That some scary shit.

Listen the guy is brash and a jerk, but I’ve seen this nonsense before from the losing party. Basically since Bill Clinton, the opposing side of the president has wanted to impeach every president since. The office is no longer respected.

So whatever he says is just true, and his actions mean nothing? That’s what you’re arguing.

I never said that. There’s a difference in being a racist and a brash egomaniac. When Trump first announced he was running for president, I never heard anything about him being a racist. I never heard anything about him being a racist throughout the years. I thought he was running for president for publicity because he likes to be seen and heard, he really digs himself. Then once it got real, the propaganda got going. There are many black people who have known him for years who have come out saying they don’t think he’s a racist. The guy has been praised over the years for providing jobs for minorities by minority groups. I guess he really bamboozled them.

It’s mostly left-wingers that are still hurting from the loss that keep the racism thing going.

I also have no idea why he keeps having rallies, he won. Oh wait yes I do, he loves to be seen and heard.

What does racism mean to anyone anymore? People think stereotypes like food and beverage is racist and it’s not. It’s how it’s used.

By the way Piggy, some bad people have come over the borders from Mexico and Central America including many MS-13 members that are a problem in LI, NY which you’re not far from. There is some truth to what he said just like there is some truth that islamic terrorists can come in as refugees. Ignoring reality is more dangerous than brash words.

I was explaining to a coworker yesterday, how when Kenny Stills and a couple of other Dolphins players protested for the first time and took a knee during the Anthem, how mad I was. I went on to explain how Stills, along with Tony Dungy and a few other former players and current players have had meetings with inner city police, and are DOING something POSITIVE, getting a dialogue started on how to fix America, one city at a time. It’s NOT just an EMPTY GESTURE! It has legs, and it’s moving, and that’s a good thing. I can’t imagine how anyone can see it otherwise, I just can’t. AWOL cannot be tolerated, so he was suspended… as he should have been. That it was only one game is also telling, meaning that he wasn’t on some Aaron Hernandez-esque mission, CTE affected, or outright throwing the towel in on our team.

Why did he show up at the Stealers* camp? My best guess is that he was seeking advice from someone there who may have connection/history/commonality to his “baby mama” situation.

If our FO, coaches, and teammates welcome him back with open arms after a mere 1-game suspension, that’s all the more I need to know. It’s a private (perhaps embarrassing) matter.

So Sunday my MIL had my kids, and my wife was at work, so I went to her house to watch the game by myself because as a family we’ve cut the cord on cable. Anyway, I couldn’t find the game anywhere so I tried watching the Redzone channel, but the thing about watching the Redzone channel is that there has to be highlights of a game to show.
Since the game was terrible, I wasn’t able to see a thing so I decided to just leave and go home and in the midst of packing up my phone charger and whatnot, I didn’t grab my keys before locking the door and walking out. So there I am on the carport and it’s cold and pouring down rain and I don’t even have my car keys to get in my car to go home and on top of that I have to urinate.
The cold and rain just keeps making it worse so I try to find a place to alleviate the situation, but I couldn’t because I’m paranoid and thought someone would be out with a cellphone and catch me on camera. I ended up having to call my wife to come unlock the door, but stand there in misery before she showed up. It was caca icing on a cupcake made of Timmon’s vomit.
There’s not a point to the story other than to switch the conversation. This is probably also the longest post I’ve made so there’s that.

I was calling him racists well before November myself…lol
    ————————————————
Birther movement wasnt necessarily racist, im sure some of those who piled on to it might have been racist, but it was unquestionably inflammatory and meant to discredit him from being able to hold that position. That was a personal attack. Remember, Trump was a democrat when that was going down and he was using it to get Hillary the nomination, its just a tactic he uses to get what he wants, and in that case it was more people to vote for her. Hell Bill Clintion brushed up against that same thing from time to time before the Democrats officially nominated him and he had to make good.

Those statements about Mexicans were just stupid, but again, he didnt say all mexicans are criminals, he said all the ones “being sent here” were. I dont really even know how you can justify his assertion anyways, Mexico isnt sending them, they are coming over. If Mexico was indeed “sending them over” as Cuba did during the 80’s (well at least a few ships worth of them were sent, a lot fled here) you might say that they deliberately pawned off criminals on us, but thats just not the case. I still dont see it as a racist statement, it was a bombastic statement that served the purpose to legitimize his claim that we needd to kick them out and build a wall.

I am with Tim i have seen a lot of him showing signs of racist behavior but not a lot of hard proof of it. He certainly doesnt mind stading close to the ones that have been accurately painted as one, and the paint seemingly has rubbed off a little on him, but there isnt a “ah ha i got ya” you could use to prove it.

Again, its not necessary to prove anyways, its not that they would get him impeached, its the continual fuck ups that start to tear down this country that would get him impeached and he is doing those just fine and with not doubts when you look at the destruction in his wake.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

David Duke ran for president in 1988 and didn’t hold back on saying he believes the white race is a superior race. Hardcore racists don’t hide it, they’re proud of it.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If some one exploits racism to get a result – they are racists as well

the birther movement is directly racist. I really don’t think any other argument is reasonable. The fact that he reaped the political benefits of using it doesn’t make it any less racists

his Mexican argument is also directly racist. Its not stupid. Its calculated. Its a dog whistle to other racists. Saying a group of people are criminals but for some exceptions is not judging people by the character of their person, its judging them by their background and that’s what racism essentially is.

I think if these 2 things happen with any person and you don’t call them racist for it, you have a unachievable threshold for what defines some one as racist. These are both pretty bad and have no place in a civilized society

Piggy the Clintons reaped the initial benefit from it. Are they racist? Donald Trump did pick it up again, and used it to rally support for him from the people that hated Obama. It doesnt mean though those people were racist, there were people that hated Obama and had nothing to do with him being black, especially after the second term. I do agree with you though, your argument is pretty sound, like a proof by associated truths, that if he knew he would be rallying racists, you could consider it a racist move.

Likewise for the statement about Mexico sending criminals. If he knew he was rallying racists, it would be a racist move, but there were also a lot of people who just feel illegal immigration is wrong and its not on a racial level, some are fearful for their safety from some, not all illegals, because whether or not ALL illegals were criminals, some were so maybe he struck a cord of fear for their support and not racism.

I understand your perspective and i admit i didn’t see your angle to start with at all. Still i convinced myself through taking your perspective and looking at it that this can be considered a lock down argument. Its a good one, but its not logically infallible. You have to see that a lot of the reasons your calling it that is because you believe him to be a racist to start with. I lean that way myself, but Tim is right here. There isn’t definite proof of it, and like i said before you have an ever increasing proof of unfit to be president, which IMO is good enough.

Because sometimes, people like yourself, argue convincingly as well and it makes me uncomfortable. It’s not an attack and I never take it that way. There are others that are entrenched, and I know that I’ll never convince them to see things my way. Those are the ones I give up hope on and move on.

I actually have a tremendous amount of respect for you and your opinions. When it comes to religion or politics, we don’t always see eye to eye, but I’ve rarely come across someone as rational, fair and open minded as you representing a counterargument. For that I’m extremely grateful to you.

I just think Miko is less famous then David Duke, and he’s hardly national news anymore. In a nutshell, I try to put the extreme voices out of the discussion and focus on the merits of the arguments either side has to present. She presents no merit for me, nor does Duke (who is admittedly just an example that comes to mind). Neither represent everyone on any side of the racial justice discussion.

Genuinely man, there was nothing personal in my response to you, and I truly, barely even noticed it was you who typed out the Miko posts, I was responding to Miko and any insinuation that her statements had a place in what I consider to be a critical and noble discussion about the state of things in our country right now.

I just don’t like when what i am saying is feels like is being interpreted as being about broad brushstrokes when they really weren’t, or it was just misinterpreted that way. Im not about broad brushstrokes, this world is too variable to do that. Ill own the color palette i chose, but i don’t i just don’t want the the painting ruined by misinterpreted brushstrokes, if you catch my drift.

So maybe i jumped the gun a little on what looked like a drift between our perspectives and i wanted to be clear, i didn’t think i was the guy i felt you might be judging me to be. Your reply makes me feel much better that its already understood by you, and reflects my own opinion of how i see your contributions and perspective as well.

The offensive linemen were subjected to a film session of every running play in the Jets game and “it wasn’t easy to watch,” Bushrod said.

No shit, Jermon. We didn’t much care for it either.
