(Wedge is crying by a fire)
I can’t believe they would do that to me!
Why!!!!

WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME DOLPHINS!!!
First Ajayi and now Landry…
What is a devastated Alien to do…
…Except talk about other draft prospects like Texas A&M receiver Christian Kirk

The Positives: A lot of experts are calling Kirk the best slot receiver in the draft. He was very productive at Texas A&M in his three years there. He caught over 80 passes in his first two seasons with the Aggies and his final season wasn’t half bad either with 66 catches. Kirk cgained just below 2,800 yards in those three years and caught 26 TDs.
The Texas A&M offense isn’t the most explosive offense – but Kirk was used a lot of different ways. He went deep, ran a ton of bubble screens, was used on reverses (he had 21 total carries for 121 rushing yards) and was a kick returner on special teams.
Kirk has solid hands. Not a lot of bad drops on his tape. His hands measured in at 9 7/8ths at the combine.
But Kirk’s biggest strength like a certain recently departed Dolphins was gaining yards after the catch – YAC! Kirk made a lot of defenders look silly with broken tackles and poor guesses. Kirk is a strong runner and a strong player – he had the 4th best bench press reps among receivers at the combine. So you can see why Kirk as a slot receiver seems like natural fit.

The Negatives: Well the first thing I should point out: WHY DO WE NEED A RECEIVER?!?!? This gripe is not about Kirk as a player, its about the loss of Landry which this alien just can’t get over. I thought I was done begging the Dolphins to draft receivers but….
Kirk isn’t a big receiver (5’10) and while he had a respectable 40 yard dash at 4.47, that does not put him in the class of an elite speed demon. Kirk is notable for his lateral quickness but not his vertical speed. There are some questions as to whether he can stretch the field at the next level.

The Alien Dust: The Dolphins have a lot of needs but drafting a player like Kirk can go a long way in replacing Jarvis Landry. And when push comes to shoe, Kirk might be better at stretching the field than Landry ever once.
The big issue is do the Dolphins spend a high pick on a receiver? Kirk can go anywhere between mid first to early 3rd. If the Dolphins trade down in the first round or Kirk is available into the 2nd round – I think he might be a viable pick (if the Dolphins have not signed another receiver in free agency)

Well it’s not the most devastating weapon – but right now, right now I just need Christian Kirk to be my handkerchief.
(Wedge begins to cry again)

You can watch his highlights here:

I don’t know if we’re going to go wr early in the draft but I would think he’s a strong possibility for us after the 1st if they consider him BPA. Hopefully, we do our due diligence on the offensive line prospects and pick up at least a couple who could really help us out there.
Legal tamponing period begins today!!!
I’m not trying to beat a dead horse here with this subject but I want to add something to the discussion from yesterday. The team hit the reset button on the coaching staff. They traded Landry. Chances are they are going to make some additional moves over the next few days to free up some cap space.
Let’s say they decided to stick it out with Tannehill and they guessed wrong after all the things they are going to do to try and get better and it turns out the team wasted more time with him at qb. That doesn’t bode well for them. If they use a bridge to get to the next step, draft a qb to develop for a year, they buy themselves some time and that bridge doesn’t need to cost them $19M this year.
Can’t Pigs keep a jersey for once?
Lol Piggy
Kirk has been my top choice. Don’t see it happening tho.

Nice scouting report Wedge
I love skyscrapers.
• 1st round – pick 15 – 15th overall Rashaan Evans LB or Leighton vander Esch LB (I’m predicting we sign a FA OG. and that all the top tier players and all the QBs are gone by pick #10 except Lamar Jackson. so if we did not sign a OG in FA then we get Will Hernandez OG or Billy Price OG, either way via trade down with Arizona.)
• 2nd round – pick 10 – 42nd overall Hayden Hurst TE or Mike Gesicki TE
• 3rd Round – pick 5 – 69th overall (from Denver for Jawuan James) Jerome Baker LB or Anthony Miller WR
• 3rd round – pick 9 – 73rd overall Nick Chubb RB or Royce Freeman RB
• 4th round – pick 15 – 115 overall (from Arizona) Joseph Noteboom OT or Will Richardson OT
• 4th Round – pick 23 – 123rd overall (from Carolina via Cleveland) Terrell Edmunds nickelback or Kendrick Norton DT
• 4th round – pick 31 – 131st overall (from New England via Philadelphia) Kurt Benkert QB or Riley Ferguson QB
• 6th round – pick 9 – 183rd overall Shaquem Griffin OLB or Allen Lazard WR
• 7th round – pick 5 – 223rd overall (from Tampa Bay) Oren Burks LB or Adam Brenneman TE
• 7th round – pick 11 – 229th overall Tray Matthews S or Skai Moore OLB
That makes more sense. We only save $4M if we cut him now, we won’t do that.
LOL Piggy @ the jersey pyre! Maybe you should get a Mikey T jersey, huh? Get it?
Son is going to love the Suh news. Yikes! LOL
DT becomes a possibility early in the draft. Now we know why the interest in Vita Vea. …First 3 picks in draft OL, TE, and DT.
I am not surprised at the Suh news. His contract was just a horror show. As much as I like him as a player it is hard to justify spending that much on a DT.
It looks like we have a blow up in process. Get ready for massive sucking this year but hopefully we will get on the right track after that
With the Suh news I’m seeing signs of a possible move to a 3-4. They have shown interest in Vea and the Bama NT. Phillips played the nose at OU. Could be Godchaux at RE, Phillips at NT & Vea at LE with Quinn & Harris at OLB. They have a ton of guys who can play ILB
Ken – I don’t think we’re going to suck because we release Suh. When did our defense ever get better since he’s been here? It’s sucked plenty with him here
Lou – Dontari Poe is a FA who shouldn’t cost a bundle, throw him in the mix.
He was the one I had us signing in the piece I did on my blog.
Gotcha – I had him in my FA 5 on DT’s.
With the way tings are going I’m almost thinking that a new QB is going to be the first pick.
As some folks are want to say “Blow it the fuck up!” all the way!!!!!!!
So they do the right thing by Suh, cut him now, let him find a team now, but still save $17M in cap space. WIN-WIN
Only problem with the June1 designation is the caps not available until then
With all these changes, can we also change the helmet logo back to the old one from the Shula era. …pre-Jimmy Johnson days and that cartoon Dolphin. Don’t make us look at the current logo for a minimum of another 5 years.
If Suh signs elsewhere, aren’t we only liable for the difference between that contract and what we owe? or something like that?
/I don’t think he had offset language
There’s a chance he could still be traded, but it is a slim one. A team would have to want him enough to give up picks to get ahead of their competitors. Miami would then take the whole cap hit this year, but I don’t think they’re concerned with that since they won’t get any more room on the cap until after Jun 1 if they designate him.
BLL – I don’t see 3-4. They have continued to pick up 4-3 pieces at DE.
Mike E:
I think we are going to suck because we don’t have our best player in offense (Landry) our best player on defense (Suh) and we are likely to lose Juwan James. We are not going to be very good this year
I disagree – Hopefully we’re going in a different direction. I think we’re trying to make our offense more explosive, and that’s something Landry never excelled at. Get Stills, Grant, Parker more involved in the passing game, maybe we improve. Like I said, the defense never improved with him here, for whatever reason. I’m not too worried about it. We were 6-10 last year with all those guys, except Ajayi, who sucked last year for us anyway.
I’m not really concerned about losing Landry on offense. I don’t think his production is that difficult to replace. Maybe not a 100 catches but his 8.8 YPCA is not difficult to replace.
Less than 100 yards per game.
Not even close, 63 YPGA for his career and 62 last year.
Ken – we sucked when we had them. They were not players that made the whole more than the pieces. Good players, but not at positions that lift the team.
Wow, I was just busting balls. I never thought he was worth the money but he is one of our best defenders. I thought they would wait until next year they must be really desperate for cap space post June one cut
Sorry Son
This shit is all very odd when do you ever see a blow up without changing out upper management too?
Right?
Didn’t we just get Suh’s old DL coach under whom he was a pro Bowl player?
That’s why I thought he would be here at least another year.
This is exactly how I felt from the beginning . . .
http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2018/03/12/cutting-ndamukong-suh-hurts-but-dolphins-never-shouldve-signed-him/
I think the last 2 years were evaluation time. Now they’re going to build the team that they envision. Whatever that may be.
There are several good DTs in the draft such as Taven Bryan and Da’Ron Payne and Tim Settle besides Vita Vea.
Harrison Phillips. We could have the only Phillips Phillips DT combo
Of course there are, but Vea is being mentioned because Miami was meeting with him. …nothing more.
I also like BJ Hill along with Payne and Phillips.
I have been saying basically what was said in that article since we signed Suh
But hey even a broken clock is right twice a day
Unless it’s a 24-hour clock. Then it’s only right once a day.
Pig — great info on Christian Kirk…and timing too. Slot receiver we do need. He might a real option if we do a trade down.
We are going to need an entire team by the end of the week
Worst offseason in Dolphins history
I disagree – but we’ll see in about 6 months who is right

It’s called a “culture change”. 🙄
Screw all that!
I want a Poona jersey! DL POONA FORD, Texas
Piggy – Go buy a T-Bomb jersey!
Aka smother shit on my torso
This team has been changing its culture for 20 years
Piggy T-Bumb wears#3
Because it’s always three pics he is giving up
LOL! It’s actually a Dolphins GM legacy, they were doing that before he even got here
The Suh news ain’t definite, but least seems probable. I didn’t think it would happen…but looks like called that one real wrong.
And once he goes, this could flip into a significant restructure like a lot of you guys were calling for. But flip side of that would be that Gase got approval for it from Ross, which would include that his job is safe at least past next season (which some of the same guy might not like).
I don’t like agreeing with BLL, but he is right when he says it was a 6-10 team last year. There are no sacred cows on a 6-10 team. Beyond the record, the team lacked discipline and was full of individuals.. and for those who think management and coaching will change next year, you better hope not. Those kind of changes are why Miami has been mired in mediocrity for more than 20 years.
Is that a 15 gallon glass of Guinness in your shopping cart?
Just was reading Sean Smith is going to jail for a year. Boy we really know how to pick em….
He was clean when he was here, he just had no hands.
He was half of the top tandem. Don’t you remember? 😂
We need to resign James!
I was thinking, can we be like fantasy football and autodraft this year? How much worse could it be?
LOL I know right?
If, and this is a really big IF with Tannenbaum still calling the shots, but IF we avoid signing a bunch of big FA contracts then this could be a good thing. The trade for Landry was essentially the same thing as letting him walk. Suh was a bad contract from the beginning relative to his impact. We are stuck with some bad contracts from last year, but it’s all workable IF we stay the hell out of the early FA period. Pick through the leftovers and get some good players for short term or bargain deals later in the process. Don’t trade up or trade away picks. If anything, keep accumulating more picks through trades and maximize the volume of young, cheap contracts.
I can live with sucking for a couple years if we are building in the right direction and finally seem to have a plan in place. I doubt it, though. Odds are we sign a bunch more expensive FAs and give up draft picks for players other teams are dumping because of bad contracts.
Suh was another semi malcontent and frequent ly penalized guy.
Also new HCs often get rid of holdover guys. These were not Gase’s guys.
Maybe they don’t fit his plan.
Suh did not make us a top ten Defense.
Stanger,
I think Gase is a good coach. The red flag with him is that our offense hasn’t exactly exploded under him and that’s supposed to be his thing. I’m good with him leading a 2-3 year rebuild plan. Wish we’d dump Tannenbaum first though….
I like Gase as well. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a serious rebuild though….this team is young enough at core positions. Does look like they are not trying to max out for next season though.
I don’t see losing Suh, Landry, or Ajayi as causing suckation.
And they were three of my favorite Dolphins.
3 players don’t equate to a rebuild. It’s not like we don’t have any other DT, WR and RB. It’s kind of silly.
Good take on it!
If Schad is right then the three of them just didn’t fit in with what Gase wanted as far as culture. Get it with Ajayi and Landry…not so much with Suh. Think his biggest problem is the dollars he signed for combined with his age.
OMG!
The Dolphins defense in 2017 gave up 335.7 YPG and 24.6PPG, 17th yardage, 28th points allowed
The Dolphins defense in 2016 gave up 382.6 YPG and 23.8PPG, 29th yardage, 17th points allowed
The Dolphins defense in 2015 gave up 376.2 YPG and 24.3PPG, 25th yardage, 19th points allowed
**************************************
The Dolphins offense in 2017 got 307.7 YPG and 17.8PPG, 25th yardage, 28th points scored
The Dolphins offense in 2016 got 332.8 YPG and 22.7PPG, 24th yardage, 17th points scored
The Dolphins offense in 2015 got 331.7 YPG and 19.4PPG, 26th yardage, 27th points scored
OH NO!!!! We’re making changes, we’re making changes!!!!!!
Seriously??? WTF are you afraid of???
I’m afraid, no strike that confident, that the same people who put together the players with those numbers are getting a second bite at the apple by serving a shit sand which they are calling culture change
Change for the sake of change is usually reckless
If the FO had a big picture that wasn’t being accomplished with the current roster they should have identified it a long time ago
How is it change for the sake of change though? I just pointed out how below average both our offense and defense have been. T-Bomb isn’t responsible for the entire roster that was here. Suh was here already, and so was Landry. The current FO of Gase, T-Bomb and Grier has been 2 years. How much longer ago were they supposed to do this? I’m totally willing to wait and see, and Landry and Suh being gone don’t scare me in the least. I never wanted Suh here for the kind of money we paid him, it was a dumb move. Landry just outpriced himself, and I’m confident we can be better on offense w/o him.
29. MIAMI DOLPHINS
https://twitter.com/PhinsComNews/status/973237764698398720
Better than I thought
DL JAMES LOONEY – CALIFORNIA
DL POONA FORD – TEXAS
Draft them both and we could have ourselves a Looney Poona! 😉
Since we eat the prorated bonus, and team trading for Suh would take on his nonguaranteed salaries of $17 mil (2018), $19 mil and then $18 mil in the two after. Any chance we get takers on that?
I don’t see why not
He’s probably worth 17m
Maybe the rumor was leaked to get trade offers
But I’m not sure how the cap works in that scenario
I’m under the impression we are getting hit with a huge cap hit whether he is traded or released
The problem is (for another team) that might just be for 2018
But if a team trades for him – they might take big cap hits in 19 and beyond
Our cap problem with the trade would be that we couldn’t push off most of our hit till 2019, but we’d still be spending it then anyhow. Any team taking him would have to want him for next season, but could cut him after at no cost.
He could end up on a team wanting to push for the ring or maybe they want him to take a pay cut and this is there way of making him think about it.
PP
You’re forgetting that Quinn played OLB in Wades defense
True, but not as well as he played 4-3 DE.
Could be they are looking at a hybrid 3-4/4-3 and he fits them both.
We were one season removed from a playoff appearance in a year when we lost our starting QB and host of other injuries. I would think we would be looking to consolidate our talent on the presumption we will be healthier this year and more ready to compete. However it looks like we are in full blow up mode
That would make a lot more sense Ken
Instead – “culture change”.
The biggest watt in this team is Mike Tannebaum
Maybe the dumbass owner is a little bigger
Culture change at the top is why fans have suffered through two winning seasons in about 20 years.
I am not as upset about losing Suh as I am about losing Landry. I never liked the signing because I thought it was too much money to tie up in DT. However his loss won’t be without consequences. It is hard to see how this team can possibly be better without 2 of its best players
I’m upset about the combination of things
How can anyone have faith this FO will do it right now
If we really want to purge the team, why stop with the roster. Let’s fire Tannebaum and Gase too. They should be held accountable that we are in this situation
“Culture change” is not limited to the locker room
We seem to lack direction right now and I think we will as long as Tannenbaum is around
Actually, I think they have a direction in mind for the first time in a long time. We, as fans, might not see it, but they are moving with purpose.
If this comes out as true….something is going on. And one of the options is they are just hunkering down and keeping what they want for the future. As the Browns have shown….not always about the next season.
I wouldn’t get too caught up in 4-3/3-4 because as we know teams play so many different formations in sub packages it doesn’t really mean that much.
Mike,
I guarantee you we can replicate those numbers with a roster full of first contract guys and short term FA deals. If the problem was bad chemistry or poor leadership does the FO really believe that paying huge money to a FA another team was willing to let walk or trade will bring that leadership/chemistry we were lacking?
Bad scouting, bad front office, bad luck, whatever the reason, we haven’t gotten enough of the type of players to be a contender. I think the only way to get there is to keep drafting and create a culture that demands the best from your guys. When you identify the ones that fill the leadership/talent void you pay them top dollar to stay. Until you find them, quit wasting money on other teams castoffs and keep your cap in good enough shape to make those moves when necessary.
UFAs aren’t always castoffs.
I can’t believe I didn’t get one comment on the Looney Puna joke!
Screw you too serious bastagess!
Sorry – I was too busy throwing tissues around to all the crybabies on here and on twitter
I’m not a proponent for change for the sake of change (see my Tannehill argument with Lou), but this team obviously had internal issues with discipline that bled over to the field. You can’t play a team sport with individuals and, apparently, those three were problems. Ajayi and Landry displays on the side lines were pretty indicative of how they must have been on a daily basis. Suh is a bit more of a surprise unless you consider his approach to workouts. He always showed up in shape and ready to play, but as an individual – he didn’t participate in the team part.
drg – Quinn was a good player, and Suh was a great player. Problem is, we were too far from just being that one great player away, so signing Suh never made sense to me. I think Quinn is just one piece, I don’t view him as the piece we’re building around. Our pass rush definitely got better with Quinn, that’s for sure, and hopefully he pushes Harris.
I think we need the offense to be more explosive, and if we can get Stills, Grant and maybe even Parker more involved, there can be more explosive plays rather than short yardage gets. I’m curious to see how the rest of this plays out, but I’m optimistic, not pessimistic and looking back way too fondly on our team that had these players that contributed to nothing but mediocrity since they’ve been here.
What did we trade for Quinn? I don’t remember it being much. His contract isn’t too horrible if we get decent production from him and he stays healthy. How often does that seem to work out for us though?
I agree with you about the releases. If we can get 80% of what Suh gave us for 20% of the price then it’s a no brainer. Shouldn’t be difficult. Same goes for Landry at 16 million/year.
A 4th RD pick this year, and a swap of 6th RD picks.
Does anyone know if Son is OK?
Tim,
Agreed, but you have to overpay significantly to get the premier ones. We let Vernon and Miller walk because they were good players, but not elite money good. Matthews was an example of a guy we should have retained. There’s value in retaining those type of guys. Probably could have made an argument for keeping Vernon, but I don’t think he is a top 10 DE in the league.
I love Landry’s fire, but he definitely is a pain in the ass sometimes and it’s questionable how valuable he is to an offense. He could be awesome with an elite QB. For what he provided us, it’s probably wise to let him go.
Bookman – By OK do you mean pounding holes in his drywall muttering incomprehensible curses at T-Bomb?
LOL! Yes, at least I will know he is still breathing.
OMG…THE SEASON IS OVER! Oh wait…we didn’t like him. Phew…everything is fine then!
Guess Schefter is just better friend’s with TImmons’ agent than with Thomas’.
I don’t see a big deal in the moves we’re making. Suh was a bad sign from the start that had nothing to do with Gase. Landry wanted to get paid and you don’t pay for WR’s like that unless they are super special. I don’t believe in paying big bucks to any receiver though. He’s a really good football player who can spark the offense and his use wasn’t maximized while he was here, but he wanted paid more than the position deserved.
I don’t blame players for wanting more money though. There’s no opportunity for anyone in this country to make that kind of money playing a game, especially when you can retire in your mid 30’s if you’re lucky to make that long of a career.
I love Landry, but you have realize that in today’s football you can’t be loyal to players who aren’t once in a generation, especially Wideouts. The NFL isn’t a PPR league.
That being said, Gase still hasn’t shown he can be a long term head coach in this league. The first year was promising, but I still think we could have won games with better scoring margins. We could have won more games last year as well, regardless of the distractions and problems.
Landry was sorta of expected, but Suh was not by me at least. And for me the big deal is that something is probably going on. Not sure what yet, but seems it is not what I expected….which was pretty much shore up the team as best you can and hope it does better with Tanny.
Timmons sucked for us, but at least he was essentially a one year deal. Not much risk in those type of deals.
Actually, we got lucky with Timmons. He had a backloaded deal and had a lot of guaranteed money this season that was voided because he violated team rules when he went AWOL, which allowed us to void the guaranteed money for this season. Don’t recall exactly how much, maybe around $9-10M
https://www.youtube.com/?gl=US
Ken,
I’m with you and Piggy on Tannenbaum. Never liked his moves with NYJ or with us. He’s all over the place and seems to make moves for the sake of doing something. I hate trading up in the draft unless it’s an absolute perfect combination of value and need. That almost never happens because there are no guarantees in the draft.
Exactly. Tannenbaum comes and signs Suh. It’s a big splashy deal. The next season he makes the Alonzo and Maxwell trade, another big splashy deal. Suh is now gone, Maxwell is now gone and Alonzo is an okay but that is basically all we have to show for all his moves. I just don’t see a plan right other than just trying to clear cap space so he can make more splashy moves
https://twitter.com/PhinsiderRadio/status/973258486816616448
Ken – I believe Hickey signed Suh, T-Bomb wasn’t here until ’16, Suh signed in ’15
T-Bomb was here in 2015. He was a big part of the Suh deal. He did complement Hickey on doing the leg work to make it happen though.
Scratch that, Hickey was the GM, but T-Bomb was here. My mistake.
I am pretty sure he was a Tannenbaum signing. I believe Tannenbaum started in 2015 and Hickey left in 2016. There was one season where they were here together
Yup, my mistake
There are a lot of teams purging some players and redoing their coaching staffs. Even teams who went to the playoffs.
https://twitter.com/finszone/status/973255975015624704
YES!!!! Now draft one of the best TE’s, either Hurst, Gesicki or Goedert! Do IT!!
We have to get a TE and that is the position that will offset Landry IMO.
I owe Tim a beer
Like or hate the moves…..sounds like free agency just got more interesting. Long way from being the Jets or Browns, but we should have some money to play with.
I wonder if you can buy more draft picks with cap space?
Only way to do that is with existing players but trades have been done with that in mind….as in take on this underachiever and his bloated salary and we’ll pop in a 3rd to make it happen.
LOL, they’ve been doing that since 2005.
That is hilarious
Stanger – We’re getting some money, but the $17M Suh money doesn’t clear until June
I think you can be over the cap until the season starts.
So does that mean we can sign FA’s knowing the $17M is coming off the books in June?
I believe so. I know teams have been over the cap in the past during the summer.
OK, thanks, that’s good for us. I was thinking we’d have to wait until June to use it
Not sure exactly how it works, but at the very least we can pull from that now cause no need to have cap for the rooks. But bigger part is that Suh’s salary will be gone going forward, they can sign/rearrange for the future with that in mind.
If you’re mad as hell, and need to calm down some . . .
https://www.twitch.tv/bobross
If you think about it, when teams have 90 players on their roster for TC and PS, I would think not all teams would be under the cap at that point.
I can’t find anything. Teams have to get under the cap by march 14th, but I don’t see any other dates on the NFL calendar regarding the cap.
That seems weird because you’re moving dollars around the entire offseason. I know I’ve seen teams over the cap during signing periods. Maybe because of designations is how you do that.
Until they set the final roster only your top 51 salaries count are used to figure out your cap, but your tops rooks will be part of that once they are signed.
I thought you had to hit the cap when you set the 53 man roster.
I agree!
The majority has been done that way the last two years. We have 19 draft picks and some UDFAs on the roster right now with another draft ahead.
When I say 18 drafts picks and UDFAs I mean the last 3 drafts. We still have other drafted players on the team from before that as well.
Doggy – That’s possible, it doesn’t state that on the calendar though. Here it is . . .
https://operations.nfl.com/football-ops/league-governance/2018-important-nfl-dates/
Sign James already! Absolutely no OL hitting the market!
We’re trying to trade him.
For what? a right tackle?
Don’t know. Heard Denver is a team interested among a few others.
We traded Ajayi for Quinn
Sign James to new deal. Have to find 2 Gs already let’s not add more needs on OL.
Revamping. The Vikings did it last year. We hear about that all the time. LOL
Who is Avery Williamson?
Titans UFA LB.
http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16920/avery-williamson
I wonder is a James for Anderson trade is a possibility?
It’s been “rumored” for over a week now that could happen because it was said DEN doesn’t want James to hit the open market and MIA wanted Anderson before.
Makes sense.
I don’t think the team can use any of the 17M until after June 1.
I wish I could get confirmation on this. Can’t find info on it anywhere
That certainly makes sense though, and that was what i thought originally, but . . .
Just reading up on it….
Miami will show the 26M until June 2. So it gives money for the draft and additional players later on. They don’t have the extra money to use until then. Which is a good thing! Lol
So lets say we want to sign a player or two or whatever with the Suh money before June 1st, are there agreements ahead of time? Kind of like when teams would agree on a deal for the top draft pick before he’s actually drafted?
If Suh is designated post June 1 cut his cap savings cannot be used to sign anyone until after that date. A player stays on the books the entire time until June 2. Once you get to that date, the cap savings is then realized but there is no cap savings until then and no money that can be utilized.
The difference comes from a bookkeeping point of view that allows a team to designated a player as a post June 1 cut to allow them to realize a larger cap savings in the current year than they would have otherwise.
If you ask me, I’d rather they save the $3.9M and get him off the books this year and be done with it.
So expect some more surprise cuts/trade and restructures.
But can deals be made ahead of time that aren’t official?
I’d prefer that route if we could trade him and get something back. Lots of things happen after June 1. You can sign your draft choices and camp cuts among them. Plus if there is extra cap after it is all over you can just roll it over into 2019.
What a shit show. I don’t give a shit what anybody says. Our “professionals” in charge of personnel suck at what they do. Every big move they’ve made blows goats. The compensation they get on trades sucks. They can’t coach anybody. They can’t motivate anybody. This team has absolutely NO leadership from the top down. They somehow think this team is a contender when they’re nowhere close. Just what the hell are they doing? I don’t believe for one second they have a long range plan. And, if they actually do, it probably sucks. I don’t trust them to hire a waterboy. Holy shit. Mediocrity seems to be their plan.

I wish I felt better after that rant, but I still see a bleak future for this team as it’s currently constituted….and nobody who knows what the hell they’re doing.
