One example: Mike Gesicki
The Positives: This is one athletic tight end! First of all this guy can soar. Want to have some fun – google “Mike Gesicki catch” and check out the images of this jumping sky high above defenders.
We’ve seen the NFL make good NFL players out of basketball players. In this case, Gesicki is a volleyball player. Every time he goes up for a catch, it looks like he is going to spike it. But his 10 1/8 inch hands pull the ball in softly.
Oh and he’s fast. Gesicki ran a 4.54 40 yard dash at the combine. That speed had him light up opposing defenses that just could not find a way to stop him. Over the last two years Gesicki had 105 catches, 1242 yards, and 15 touchdowns.
The Negatives: This is not your classic tight end. He’s not going to be much of an asset when it comes to run blocking. Gesicki is certainly strong, he had 22 reps in the bench press at the combine which was second among tight ends – but I would not call his build prototypical tight end size. Sure he is 6’5 but he has a bit of a lean lanky build. He’s not that physical. Think of Gesicki as more Jimmy Graham than Anthony Fasano.
The Alien Dust: I wonder if there was a player who helped himself more at the combine. He wowed everyone. It wasn’t just a fast 40 yard dash. He was 1st among tight ends in every category except for bench press…where he fell to 2nd place…lol
This is a special athlete. He may not be a huge asset in the blocking game – but this a guy who changes an offense. I believe Gesicki will be a pro bowl receiver in the NFL.
His impressive combine might be enough to vault him into the 1st round. But I think there is a good chance Gesicki is a 2nd or even a 3rd round pick. If he lasts to the 4th round – consider every NFL scout a moron.

Oh and Calvin Ridley is the type of WR any team could use. He has speed for air coryell type systems, he has great acceleration through his cuts for those quick hitter systems and he has great hand and precise route running that gets separation in any of the system or alignments he could be put in. He isn’t a freak athlete or a Randy Moss burner, or a Calvin Johnson huge bodied receiver but his overall game is pretty great

What’s the point drafting a WR @ 11 if the QB is so horrible??
It’s about building a TEAM!! The history of the offense is it can’t move the ball and can’t score points. We’ve added some pieces on the offensive line and a couple new wr’s but Parker has been inconsistent and Amendola’s contract pretty much turns him into a one year rental.
With the offense being the biggest issue year after year we need to add some talent that can help us out rather than keep focusing on the defensive side. If the defensive players there at #11 were head and shoulders above Ridley I’d say it wouldn’t matter but they’re not.

That Jets trade was ‘reality tv’ shit. I don’t think any of these QBs are worth moving up only 3 spots. That said…
1. NO WAY do we trade up. We want our picks. We’ve done well in round 2 the last few years.
2. I don’t think we take a DT at #11. Maybe trade back 4 to 5 spots and take one… but I think they have the bodies on DL
3. If QB run actually happens in top 6… I’d be happy with Fins getting first choice of LBers.
4. My gut tells me, however, that this team (with input from Gase) will NOT draft a QB that used to be a WR and needed to “work on accuracy” (yikes)… they won’t trade up to 3 for a skinny DE LOL…
… they also won’t blindly take BPA… but they will compromise on BPA that is closest to need.
Which brings us back to the increased likelihood that we will end up drafting LB (DL and LB positions thus being gradually built through draft).
Yes let’s hope BOTH LB’s are available so we can argue over their stat sheets for 10 years! 😉

Im on board with drafting him, i mocked hi in the 4th to us just the other day. I know he has played around his handicap so far and kept a high level of play but i do think in the NFL its going to cost him some, so id be careful not to use a pick that we really needed to use on another player, but he’s going to contribute right off, probably as a rotational position player and for sure as a ST ace. Maybe he is why we really pushed to bring Thomas back, maybe they think they can grab him and get rotational player at S and ST’s out of him.
Even at his young age i think he could help us with the culture and leadership deficit we have on our team.
I find it interesting that a few weeks back, we were a hot pick for a QB, and now, you rarely see a mock draft that has drafting a QB. I’ve seen a lot of mocks where 1 of the top 4 is still available, but we pass. I wonder what happened to change that? Maybe they feel we’ve backed off with our interest, and maybe we did that on purpose after the moves we’ve made, and now they feel like we’re concentrating on the defense, which is precisely what we want everyone to think. Hmmm . . .
Probably the tightness of the underwear they are wearing this week. Who knows these guys blow int e wind and take their queues from others that are also blowing in the wind or little things here or there that make them completely 180 their beliefs over night. These mock drafts and draft rumors are useless until liek the day of or at best the week of the draft itself.
I think sometimes they buy too much into what is being said, specifically how Gase insists that Tannehill is his QB. beat writers keep putting it out there, and it seems like it sticks in their heads. Similarly with the NY Giants, they flip flop on them too, sometimes it;s a QB and sometimes it’s Barkley or Quenton Nelson. While that may be true for 2018, that both Tannehill and Manning are the QB’s for ’18, both teams need to look to the future too

We’ll find out about Tannehill this offseason. He hasn’t played in games since late in 2016, but he was playing in TC in August of 2017 when the non-surgery failed. He’s on pace to be ready for May/June minicamps and OTAs after having the surgery. He’ll be 30 years old in July, not 34. I think “kind of” writing him off at this time is premature.

Im not writing him off, but im also not putting all my trust in something we have never seen from him especially after back to back knee injuries and a season and a half on the sidelines. Im in the same boat with Luck, and if i were a Colts fans id be wanting my team to draft a QB the same as i am with Tanny for us. Im being completely objective about his future, but im also being reasonable as far as the need to prepare for next man up. Right now, we go from Tanny to David Fales, and to me thats just not good enough. Its also not good enough to push Tanny, there is 0 threat from Fales. Competition in a sport like football brings the best out of a player and there should always be situations where they are being pushed by someone else, its the most healthy environment you can have.
we definitely need to grab a middle round guy capable of pushing Tanny while being a reliable backup or eventual replacement.
I wouldn’t rule out the 2nd or 3rd round
A guy like Rudolph or Falk in day 2 might be an asset
The 1st round seems unlikely now given the jests trade and high possibility of Buffalo also moving up
Next year’s schedule doesn’t excite me at all. Not in degree or perceived difficulty, but just plain matchups that I want to see. I feel like we play the same AFC teams every year outside of our division and I don’t care to see us play the NFC North.

That letter Shaqueem wrote was pretty incredible and really puts attitude towards things in perspective. One of my favorite quotes is “You attitude determines your altitude.” and i think this kid completely gets than and is already a good representation of that with plenty more to come i bet.

Landry still doesn’t have a deal done with the Browns and says basically “my people are negotiating that.” Since we gave his agent the chance to look for trades, assumed that meant a deal was already in place.
Instead looks like the Browns are in the exact same situation we were. Jarvis on one year for $16 mil…..except they gave up a 4th for that.
Maybe even the Browns think Landry and his dildo agent are crazy if they think he’s worth $15-16M, and they’re not going to pay him that. I can see them getting it done at $14.5M per, which will still be a great contract contract, as long he gets his guaranteed money, which if I recall, he wanted about $40M guaranteed.
We’ll see what happens….but Landry still has the option to be an FA next year. And am sure his agent it pointing that out. And that $16 mil is guaranteed.

I think there is something there with him that id like to have on our team, i dont know that id force a move, but if he hit the round i had as my evaluation for him, im not not selecting him because of his handicap and im not pushing his value down because of it either, im just going of my evaluation of his game tape and where i see him contributing now and in the future. Im also definitely weighing in the intangibles because to me those are sometimes even more important than the physical skill assessment

I really think this draft could go a 100 different ways, i dont see any scenario that doesnt have merit, trade up trade back stay put. I could see a ton of positions taken in the first no matter where we pick at too. I think its all a lot of hard lined speculation to say this team will not do this or that, because i promise you there is a good chance that just about anything goes down when we select. There are a few positions i think are almost locked down at this point but we arent even close to being one of them.

I still believe he wanted the money, he made it clear what he thinks he’s worth, so he can change his script to anything he wants to, but I’ll always believe he wants the money over anything else. Nothing wrong with wanting security, but he wants that guaranteed money, which I believe was close to $40M over the length of the contract

Dont mean to answer for Stanger but i definitely feel there was an element of that with him. I dont think he was going to take a home team discount, i think he was looking to get the pay he felt like he had earned getting, much the same way that Bell does, but i think that he had lost any reason to give a home town discount as well by having some friction with Gase and probably some of the FO.
I dont think what he signs with the Browns for has any bearing on if that was the case though, simply because the dynamic of the negotiations are different at this point so it might wind up being less simply because there is more or less leverage than he had before.
yea I agree. I think the friction with the FO made just wanna get out of miami hoping he’ll get a better deal somewhere else. But that doesn’t mean he had a deal in place or any type of guarantee of a deal when he left.
