I feel the need to reiterate a feeling I have made clear previously. So much is going around now with the FLA media about the Dolphins plans to tank the 2019 season. I think this is getting completely overblown. I don’t think for a second that new HC Brian Flores is coming here with a mandate from the owner to try and lose as many games as he can in order to procure a top pick in a QB rich 2020 draft. That AIN’T happening! I really wish that whole idea would just go away. Here’s what I do believe is the mandate, and take it for what it is, just one guy’s opinion.
What I do believe the plan is for 2019, is to not spend big money on free agent players, especially at the QB position. I think we will add our talent in the draft, and not necessarily a 1st RD pick, unless the QB we really want is available at our pick #13. I don’t think we’re going to trade up, I think we’re trying to get this roster as good as it can be, and therefore won’t be trading away any of our draft picks. In fact, my thought is we will be trading a few veteran players that can bring back some value and help us round out a nice haul in this year’s and next year’s draft. Ryan Tannehill, Reshad Jones, Devante Parker, Danny Amendola and Robert Quinn will be offered for trades to give us some additional draft capital. Most importantly, I think we’ll stay away from any free agent QB’s.
If we do as I say, and don’t sign a stopgap QB, that would mean a QB stable of our newly drafted 2019 QB, Luke Falk and Jake Rudock. All this doesn’t mean we’re trying to lose, but realistically, if we follow that path, it’s going to be much harder to win. I felt last season once the entire draft process was over that Baker Mayfield was the best QB in that draft. Mayfield went to a pretty talented CLE roster and only managed 6 wins. Sam Darnold got the Jets 4 wins, Josh Allen 5 wins, and finally Josh Rosen 3 wins. That’s the cream of the crop of what was considered a strong QB class, and the best outcome was 6 wins. What I’m trying to say is, it’s not trying to lose, it’s not easy to win under those circumstances. That’s not tanking, it’s truly rebuilding, and there’s nothing wrong with it.
Sadly, we will say goodbye to our longtime Special Teams coach Darren Rizzi. Unfortunately, once Rizzi interviewed for the HC position here, it made the likelihood of him returning as ST’s coach very slim. A newly hired HC wouldn’t want to compete with a coach who knows the players very well, and one that is already very well liked and respected the players. That’s too much to ask, and after any failure for the team, Rizzi’s name would surface as a replacement, and that just can’t work. The same scenario played out in CLE with Freddie Kitchens and Gregg Williams. Once Kitchens got the HC gig, Williams was out. He was out not because they could find a better DC than Williams, but because of the same conflict.
So 2019 will be a year of responsible team management, and hopefully we won’t fall back into the pitfalls of trying to get that one player that will put us over the top, because no one player can do that. Just get young talent at every position, solidify the roster, and with the purging of the expensive contracts, at some point we will hopefully be competitive and ready to make a playoff run, and at that point we should be flush with cap money to make a couple of important free agent acquisitions that put us over the top. This may happen 2 or 3 years down the line, so this will require patience from the owner Steve Ross, the coaching staff, and of course, the fans. I don’t count on 1 and 3 doing their part by any means, but hopefully, both can pull through as we ascend after finally doing things right here in Miami.

MARQUISE COPELAND in the third round looked like a steal to me. Hybrid type guy (6’3″ 290) DT/DE with 50 tackles and 4 sacks this year.

Copeland is built like a wrecking ball.
He is wide strong throughout his frame and has surprisingly quick feet first step and get off. Strong, heavy hands and a high motor he could play DT or even 34 DE in the right system. Wll dive to make a play behind the line or from behind
Could be a great option for a 43 team looking for a top run defender at the DT position while adding insurance at the DE position in 3 and 4 man fronts.
One of the quickest DT prospects at almost 300 lbs in this very deep 2019 draft. Does not move like a 290 pound D lineman more like a 43 DE edgerusher. Freakish athletic big guy who went from 260 lbs to 290 lbs with very little, if any loss of athletic ability.
If you were to design a player on a video game to play DT you would create Copeland. A monster force in the middle of a D that can swallow up running backs and disrupt QB’s.
Of course, he is a better fit as a DT but the fact he could play DE in a pinch especially on run downs is a bonus and GM’s really love a versatile player.

Mike, I didn’t say I’m pleased with Harris but I’ve seen guys like him take a few years before they became a force. Everson Griffen, Brandon Graham, Melvin Ingram etc. Harris also missed 5 games this past season so that might have slowed his development. You might not think he’s a building piece but I bet the new coaching staff will think he is.
Its not craxy for pass rushers to come along in year 3
but right now – we have two glaring holes on the “edges” bc Harris has been disappointing
missing on Harris so far has a been a huge disappointment for me
Godchaux, Taylor, Harris, McMillan and Baker along with some of our secondary is a pretty good young nucleus to build on with the defense.

but probably better served as part of a rotation – when we parted ways with Suh – the problems up front really piled on.
McMillan and Baker should be key pieces to the LB unit
In terms of building I think Harris has to start being viewed as a bust – I’m not cut him, but until he proves himself, the edge position he would have occupied is a hole.
So whether we are 3-4 or 4-3 or a hybrid or whatever
I have 2 LB slots filled and maybe 1-2 DL spots filled
and then some pieces that will help the rotation or might develop into something more than that

Need a trade partner. Not a whole lot of teams are in need of a QB right now. A lot of teams just invested in young QBs and other teams have established QBs. I think the chances of us releasing Tannehill are greater than a trade but we’ll see. I still think Washington might be his best landing spot. Contracts will have to be worked out though.
I don’t want to get caught up as if I’m defending Harris all day. We’ll see what happens next season. It will be a big year for him.
We said that about Parker every season too. I’m not directing this at you, it’s just some people never realize the potential we believe they have.. I hope he kills it this year, that would be ideal.

Piggy, I think losing Hayes and Taylor hurt us on the DL more than Suh’s departure. That’s when we started signing DL off the street and playing guys like Woodard more often. Taylor was starting to come on.
But that’s in the past and we’re going to revamp the DL anyway so let’s hope for the best.

Our cap situation is where it is because we were trying to win under Gase. We can create quite a bit of cap relief for this year even though I don’t expect us to be big spenders. Then in 2020 Suh’s dead cap comes off as will some vets we release this offseason. Not sure how we’ll view FA in 2020 because so much more has to happen before we get there. But we’ll likely to have a decent amount of overall cap space and even rollover. But I wouldn’t want to save rollover money to that extent again from 2020/2021. Make the team better in year two of the rebuild. Whether it’s a special player or a few solid pros. We don’t have to act like we’re not doing much for years during this team turnover.
Year one is the cleansing.
Year two the direction.
Year three time to contend.
That’s three offseasons of FA and the draft along with the new coaches’ way of doing things. FA doesn’t lend itself for 4-5 year rebuilds. 3-5 year contracts are up by then and now you’re replacing players, not building on them.
I would try and trade Tannehill for a 3rd and same goes for Jones. If we could get 3rds for each we could get at least one qb with one of those picks and possibly another offensive lineman with the other.
I’d be good going into the season with Minkah and TJ at safety for the time being.
Any player on our team 28 or older is on the table for trades. By the time we contend their contracts are up and/or they’re couple of years older. This ties into what I just posted. You can’t go young keeping a lot of prime/twilight vets on the team. Now’s the time to go young and let the guys in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th seasons be the vets in year three of this transition.

The defense is going to be interesting. Are we going to a 3-4 or staying with a 4-3? If we’re going 3-4 why did we spend so much time with Montez Sweat because he’s a 4-3 end?
But, you gotta think we’re looking at Harris, Godchaux and Taylor on the d-line with the possibility of Harris moving to OLB/pass rusher in a 3-4 and then Baker and McMillan at ILB. But, Kiko’s best year in Buffalo was also at ILB. Something to consider.
I’m also not interested in re-signing James unless it’s for a team friendly deal because he really hasn’t proven enough. I wouldn’t back up the truck for him. Make him an offer and if he walks, he walks.
And not only is anyone 28 or older on the table for trades but it’s time to send some guys packing as well. Bring in new blood and just go from there. Record this year doesn’t matter.
Wake is a FA.
Sorry to say but I think Wake moves onto a contender.
2nd best thing about Ross after giving us shade while keeping the heat advantage is carry overs every cent of cap. Many owners do not and pocket the money instead.

He didn’t invent the rebuild, he’s just the most recent to use it. It’s definitely only my opinion, which is all we have until something else happens. 🙂
Keep in mind, Buffalo traded away a bunch of players, and everyone said they were going to be terrible, but they were just a little worse than we were.
I tried to layout the vet age and contract situation for 3 years from now. What is Reshad going to mean to this team the next two years? A very good player, fine. Experience, okay. Then in 2021 when we go into contend mode and he’s not on the team, why did we keep him here the two years prior at his contract?
Not saying he can’t be on the team in 2019, but if we get a decent offer you take it. If he’s so good he’s gotta be of value for some teams.

Piggy, trading Reshad isn’t because he’s not a good player, it’s because of his contract, his age and his status in 3 years when we’re ready to contend. You can’t be emotional about it. Rebuilding doesn’t mean keeping all your favorite vets.
I’d take a 3rd even a 4th for Reshad. As a GM I’d be a pain in the ass about a 5th or less and would consider just keeping him. Let the other team give in.
Rebuilding includes the word “build” in it

Only reason you trade him is if total rebuild, but then a day or two ago called him “the canary in the coal mine” on that.

Seriously guys and gal, don’t be surprised if we clear out most of the vet players on high salaries, get some cap relief and take on some significant dead cap for 2019, but will clear in 2020 along with Suh. We could be over $80M in cap space by 2020. Forget the draft compensation with some trades. It’s about cap relief, moving on and improving your draft odds, or using some of those extra picks as trade up chips. The more draft picks you have the more options and odds you have. That’s what you need during a rebuild. Lots of competition.
In the 2021 season, we might only have 7-8 players left from the roster now. Three FA periods and three drafts under a new regime starting in 2019 will do that.
Let’s say we’re in the 2nd rd and the QB we’re high on fell to the 2nd rd. The teams picking early aren’t in the QB market so we pounce before others who may want a QB. Those extra picks from vet trades can be used to trade up and land him without giving up much of our draft. That’s an investment in the future.
You can’t say blow it up and then retract about veteran players. Rock’s nuclear blast is here with the exception of a few. Time to accept it. LOL

Jones was a fifth round pick. He is 30 YO and probably on his next to last contract. The only reason I picked Jones as a trade target is he has value and is aging. (as if everyone else in the world isn’t, odd expression)
Oh, and to answer the question, it is used to pick a younger cheaper player. Hopefully a probowller That’s what a rebuild is about.
Piggy – Why is it so foreign to you to trade veteran players in a rebuild? It’s universally done in all sports. You get picks to acquire younger players. Of course it’s a crapshoot, but the thinking is you get a younger player that will benefit your team when you’re ready to compete, and shed a large contract as well as an aging player who will really start to decline in value by the time you’re ready to compete.
If you say what are the odds of us getting a good player, what if we trade that 3rd RD pick and another pick to move up to get a great player this year or next year, if it’s a 2020 pick?

Pulled an old Belichick but this draft is so loaded early that I decided to build the whole team before 2020. Three OL, two CB, and two DL. Got my favorite QB of this draft and some playmakers in the end. It would never happen but finding 11 picks would be nice.
Reports are that Kyler Murray is still non-committal on whether baseball or football is going to be his thing. Of course, with the draft being a few months away it’s not necessarily critical at this time but when teams are putting together their draft boards and finalizing things it’s going to be necessary for him to have more of a solid idea or his draft stock will plummet.
IMHO, Murray isn’t worth a 1st rd pick to begin with. If you watch his games from this past season and try to put aside your excitement as a fan and be objective about the situation you’re going to see a lot of wide open wr’s in Oklahoma’s scheme.
Murray could also be waiting for more of a solid draft grade than he’s currently getting as well. As of now, he’s all over the place with some saying he’ll go first rd and others saying he will drop significantly because of his size. So, there’s that.
However, If you’re an NFL GM does his lack of commitment one way or another make you proceed with caution or cause you to remove him from your draft board altogether?
Personally, I think Murray is a great athlete and, while his athleticism may help him overcome some of his size disadvantage at the next level, it’s just not going to be enough. A picture posted by Gil Brandt yesterday of himself, Murray and Dan Marino together, with Murray in the middle, shows just how small the guy really is. One hit could derail his career.
His actual measurements at the Combine will go a long way to fuel the discussion even more and if he does check in at 5’9″ and 180 or 185lbs it’s going to be tough to ignore his size as something to consider when thinking about drafting him.
Me? I’m in the Murray shouldn’t go anywhere before the 3rd rd group. If Russell Wilson were in the NFL Draft again it’s easy to say he would probably go in the first rd this time around but we’ve not seen anything like Murray in the past. This is entirely uncharted territory and there is not precedent for a guy of his size playing qb in the NFL.
So, I’m staying away from the guy in the first two rds. If there’s a mistake to be made, let someone else make it. First rd picks are way too valuable to take a player who could “possibly” help your team. If you have any question about his size then you are not truly convinced and I think that’s enough to say “no”.
I’m actually pretty excited about the Knicks trade. Looks like they may have finally made the right moves. Time will tell, but it looks like there’s a good plan in place

To get back to ya on your question last night, no… I wouldn’t trade a 3rd for Reshad if he was on another team during our ’19 “rebuild”. I see what ya mean, but that also doesn’t mean we should trade him, either… at least IMO. We’ll see what happens.
I think you have to trade Jones. He is one of the few “aging” vets that has value. In two or three years, he won’t and is likely to have been surpassed by young guns. Age, cost, and current value says trade him.
You speak the truth and for all the right reasons. I just don’t want to see Reshad go being he’s a fan favorite and team leader.
IF we were to trade Reshad, I’d take nothing less than a 2nd rounder. And if we didn’t have Minkah and TJ, I’d say no way.
Wake may be the only older player I would let stay and then only at vet minimum. But why would he stay? He can certainly find a spot with a contender.
I think Wake would contemplate retirement before leaving Miami… just a hunch. He’s too loyal to our franchise, so I’d expect him back.
RT won’t be trade-able unless he agrees to renegotiate his contract. He is going to have to do that regardless, but he probably wants to be able to pick where he goes and he holds all the cards. The team outside that matrix is Dallas. RT is a Texas boy and Dallas could use a high end back up. I could see working a trade with them that RT would renegotiate for.
Good call on Dallas. And some of the rumors coming out of Dallas is that they’re not sure about Dak Prescott being a part of their long-term future.
I don’t recall where I’d heard that about Dak (I think it was on a game telecast), but I think Dak is doing just fine. But then again, when Jerry Jones is your owner, who knows?

They sure didnt do that with IT, they left out the really twisted shit lol, which i didnt really think fit particularly well in the novel anyways. It seemed out of place, but it did add a creep factor to the book.
Id rather they not do things to completely change the feel of things and take the movie in a different direction from the book but im ok with small adaptations. Im a huge fan of Tolkien but i was pretty ok with Peter Jackson’s changes. The movies were still really enjoyable. I did miss Tom Bombadil though. The hobbit was almost too much though.
I know a big reason Arians took the Tampa job was he believes in Winston, so not sure about that being a landing spot for Tannehill. he doesn’t have a lot of options as a starter, as a backup he’d have many more opportunities.

I think that Foles could be because of his connection with their OC, but with Keenum flop and Cousins not working out year one, im thinking people are going to be more leery of giving a career backup the starting role with a big ass contract too. Washington and Jax are the only two spots i can think of where they might do that, but they might take the cheapest option out of the two as well.
You guys ever dealt with professional carpet cleaners? Has to be about the biggest rip off gig around, other than yeah the machines work well. Dudes are in the door for $129 without seeing it and want every kind of add something expensive magical into the machine there is. Wanted $350 to clean the area rug (which basically means same stuff but not attached to the floor). Talked them down to $100 on that, and they were probably laughing about “what a chump” on the way out.
When we bought or most recent home, we had come of the carpets cleaned by Stanley Steamer. One of the guys asked to use the bathroom in the basement, took a shit and stunk up the basement and first floor for about an hour. LOL
I have and it’s a nightmare. I find it best to rent the machine and do it yourself. Depending on the size of your house it’s only a couple hours work.
Moving the furniture and clearing the floors is the biggest part of the job at our place.

Don’t you think it’d be better to keep him then if all we’d get was a 5th in trade? It’s not like next year is the year we need cap space. We want cap space in year 3 of a rebuild in all likelihood, so paying a couple of the vets that we can’t trade (so long as we’re not actually going over the cap) isn’t really going to hurt us when we’re ready to compete again.
If Mike’s right, we won’t be needing cap space for FA this year, so we can take a chance on getting a 3rd in compensatory after he walks.
One thing is certain, he WILL get a contract to be a starter or compete as one once he walks, so we may as well get something out of that.

Right now it’s all speculation. My gut tells me the org is moving on from Tannehill. We’re likely not going to be big spenders in FA but it doesn’t mean we’re not going to sign some FAs. Most likely mid tier young players that fit with what the new coaches are looking for. I think cap saving begin this offseason. Next year Suh’s dead cap comes off the books as will some of the vets we release this year. I can see us looking to trade a few vets. Whether we can or not I don’t know, but I think they will try.

I am good friends with the guy who makes the sours at Firestone Walker (Barrelworks). In fact I have some of my beer in his barrels over there right now. I make sour beer with him on a very small scale, but I can’t make it at my main facility because it’s too risky that it’d infect my lager or the other clean beers that I sell on a production scale.
Same reason Firestone does their clean beers in Paso Robles, CA and sour beers in Buelton, CA

I have been drinking them almost exclusively for the past year or so. There are tons of them on the market right now and one of the package stores in Mobile carries tons of them, i thought maybe id look for yours if you might do distribution out this way.
