As you all probably know already, the Dolphins made some cuts yesterday, not reporting this, just recapping what’s happened. One of the bigger surprises was cutting DT Akeem Spence who we picked up last year from Detroit for a conditional 2019 7th RD pick. Also somewhat a surprise was cutting safety T.J. McDonald. Not surprising was parting ways with OL Will Holden (Not to be confused with actor William Holden). We also waived OT Jordan Mills who when we first picked him up after Buffalo released him I thought he may be our starting RT this season. The way he performed for us in practice and in the preseason made it clear that wasn’t going to happen. Also waived were LB Chase Allen, and veteran TE Clive Walford.
Now to the big news. The Dolphins met with Jadeveon Clowney yesterday, although Clowney did not deem the Miami Dolphins originally as a potential suitor. He preferred the Seattle Seahawks, but after meeting with Dolphins HC Brian Flores, his opinion may have changed. At the moment, it actually seems as if the Dolphins are the team most likely to land Clowney, but at what price? Keep in mind, the price is two-fold. We have to trade talent to the Texans in exchange for Clowney, and then we have to pay Clowney. He signed a 1 year deal worth just under $16M, but what happens after this season? Therein lies the rub . . .
I had to drive from one office to another yesterday and I had the pleasure of catching some good dialogue between NFL Radio hosts Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller. Pat Kirwan is not the foremost authority on everything NFL, but as a former HC and NFL GM, he’s well respected in NFL circles. Kirwan was very much against the Dolphins acquiring Clowney and made some excellent points. He was saying that Clowney hasn’t been a premier player while playing with J.J. Watt. This reminds me of tha situation the Dolphins had years ago. Flash back to the year 2002 when the Dolphins had Jason Taylor and Adewale Ogunleye. That year, Taylor had 18.5 sacks, Ogunleye chipped in with 9.5 sacks. This is a similar situation, it really is. Clowney having the benefit of possibly the most disruptive defensive player in the game hasn’t ever achieved double digits in sacks. BTW, Ogunleye only achieved double digit sacks once with CHI, and only once (10) in 2005. Granted, Watt hasn’t been able to stay healthy, but I’m loathe to give Clowney a huge contract when he’s never been a game changer. He’s young, he’s only 26, but where’s the beef? Understood he was injured his 1st season in 2014, and maybe had a hangover from that injury in 2015. Where’s the explosive stats after that? 24.5 sacks in 3 seasons. Sure, it’s better than what we have, but is it worthy of trading top talent away and then backing up a Brinks truck and paying him handsomely after too? I wouldn’t do it. 2015 Watt had 17.5 sacks and FIFTY QB hits. Clowney?4.5 sacks, 8 QB hits.
To me this more about getting a name than production, and as Naples mentioned, all too similar to acquiring Ndamukong Suh. I know we need help at DE, I’d rather run with the young guys who have shown some promise than really overpay twice to get Clowney, one in trade compensation and two having to pay some exorbitant contract for him over the next few years. I don’t think he’s worth it. Nothing wrong with kicking the tires, but don’t please don’t make the purchase!

If we let Laird go we haven’t changed one bit
He’s already on the team.
Think Ninkovich
I cussed when we frittered away Nink.
Naples, when I think Ninkovitch I think of the many times we cut him and couldn’t use him. It has to stop with Flores or we’ll be right back here in another 3 years.
Is that the Bridgewater that some of you wanted?????????????
4yds per catch for Teddy.
Wheew!
Lol, yes
I never wanted him
Reed looks good as a blocker.
Stockton just said Haack’s punt took a “patriots bounce”.
Can we get announcers who aren’t 100
The Bucs announcers a couple of weeks ago were kidding about Stockton and Myers said that Stockton was there for Paul Revere’s ride, lol. “He called it”, he said lol
Stockton is solid in my book. You want more Griese?
I like him but he’s prone to the gaff periodically
Just think Stockton is the glue that keeps the coverage together. Could see them get someone younger in who is like a professional broadcaster though. Thing is this team is just for preseason.
Needham blows it again. Also I think Tre Watson is toast. He has already messed up two plays.
We don’t Needham
I just really don’t like McTyer. He seems to be playing along fine, making generically good plays, but he just can’t clamp down in money time.
That was a perfect throw by Bridgewater, but McTyer gave the overtop free and clear, just running along behind the guy.
Stanger, Stockton does games for Fox during the season. I agree he’s the glue for Fins broadcasts. Sometimes he makes Griese look sharp lol
I wish we could keep Fird.
I’ve been saying we should keep Myarick on the PS. That was a nice turn around and catch play.
Ford
that’s some pretty nice passes there!
We have a furniture store doing local ads here named Badcock and more.
and More?
Myarick sounds like one of the “ask your physician “ about prescription medications.
No more leaking in you’re underwear, what a wonderful way to spend the day – Myarick
Prince looks gooda gain tonight.
Calhoun has been out there all game.
I don’t think they should try to put Rudock on the PS. He will get poached.
Nice throw Rudock
TD Dolphins 💥🐬🍺
So happy for Horn to get a TD.
I just love Fudock.
Thank you Daffy
rotfl
Rudock.
Nice!
# start#5
No thanks, those preseason game 4 Cleo Lemon numbers…
sorry can’t see tongue in cheek
That Prince block was a mismatch to say the least.
I like this offense so much more than in the past i like the swarming D
I want to shout out to Rizzi for finding $anders
The fucking crypt keep keeps calling the Dolphins the Patriots (I got home late from the airport and am watching the game 15 minutes behind.
I am feeling better about the Dolphins D because they have been wrapping up a lot better this game
Man we fucking rock.
Our Ol is knocking shit off the ball 2 and 3 yds.
Myarick looks awesome.
Gaskin looks good too.
Sanders 26 yd FG would have been good from 46.
oops maybe not. a llittle slanty to the right, but great istance.
4/5 drives resulting in points.
Tannehill wonders which division he’s in
Jeez can you tell I’ve had a signif helping of Chopin Polish potato vodka
straight right out the freeeeezer
so smooth
I like this De Luca LB kid.
Nice that Horn got that TD I noticed him several times on that drive sticking his nose in blocking in the run game
I like Mbu He throws the O linemen out of his way
the “skip forward” button on my remote is timed almost perfectly to bring you to the next play. I am almost caught up.
The run blocking is looking pretty damn good
What I think has pleased me the most this evening is the efficiency of the offense even though a lot of these guys aren’t going to be on the team.
Cox with with a first down
I hope we keep Cox but it’s tough between Laird, Gaskin, and Walton.
Myarick with soft hands and runs hard.
Crazy to see Vincent Taylor in there PS4 in the 4th QTR. He could be on the chopping block.
yep depends on how many DL we keep.
but with Spence gone already Taylor’s chances are better. PLUS Taylor has a lot of family and friends in the standss as this his home town, so maybe they are giving him some plays for that.
Smalls…
That was time you BBM
That was for you BBM
Needham gets burned again.
Prince looked good for the most part. Tough decisions coming up this weekend.
Nice play by Mo Smith to save the game. Might’ve made the team right there.
Like Vilma said earlier, about 45 of the 53 were pretty much set before the game. I doubt any one play made or broke their decisions game as a whole might but not one good or bad play despite how good or bad.
Might have broke some ties…the game I mean
Fitz names week 1 starter
Well…who did he name🤔
Week one starter was already named. That’s been a thing since there were week 1s. I mean that’s kinda where it got it’s name
Smart asses 🤡
Named
Flores announces Fitzpatrick as Fins’ Week 1 starter
Jelani Scott

After weeks of speculation, the Miami Dolphins have finally announced their Week 1 quarterback.
As per Jelani scott nfl.com
Following Thursday’s 16-13 road victory over the Saints, coach Brian Flores confirmed to reporters that Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Week 1 at home against the Ravens.
Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen, the 2018 10th overall pick, had been engaged in a tight back-and-forth battle throughout training camp but the 36-year-old Fitzpatrick has earned the starting nod over the 22-year-old Rosen, whom the team traded for on draft night.
Went to the Mets game tonight with long time friends and had a great time. The Mets are floundering but we had a lot of fun regardless.
Can someone give me a Dolphins final PS game and team summary update? 😉
Rudock looks like a NFL QB. I hope we can keep him.
Ford looked good.
Our RBs all found running room.
Vince Taylor played a lot of snaps.
My thoughts too!
Dorian
A strong three for sure, a lot of very warm water left to cover and over 500 miles left to go,
At this point I’m still thinking somewhere between Vero and Melbourne for landfall
Had hoped to get a better feel for the movement of the high system movement by now
Sometimes the waiting is the hardest part lol
Don’t sleep on this one, get your supples set and be smart !
Tim – You went to see the Ne York Mets? They seemed to have forgotten the “w’ lately . . .
Are they Knights that say Ni?
They don’t hit. Swept at home 2 in a row. But it didn’t matter. Getting together with friends of 40+ years trumped that. 🙂
So Fitz is the starter. Okay, Rosen is right there. Go from there like a piano piece one note at a time. 😉
That gives us 2 chances to have good QB play.
Cuts looming
Sucks for the Dolphin’s staff! The deadline for cuts and the time allowed to scoop up other teams cuts will not change due to Dorian, but they all need to get prepared just like the rest of us!
It’s crazy I know, but I am hoping for the storm to hit closer to where I live in PB county than farther north in the Melbourne area because I will have no time to get up to my Rockledge place to board it up. Cross my fingers and hope the windows don’t get blown in or the two huge oaks in the front yard don’t come down on the roof. At least my home in Boynton is going to be shuttered up and I can hunker down.
I have seen NOONE other than the Miami Herald saying anything about a Tunsil trade. I saw that other outlets are reporting that the herald is reporting a possible “revolt” (which is asinine tripe attempting to get clicks, I will not even give them the click)
Yeah its pretty much just Mando too, though the other nut lappers are joining in just so they wont get scooped.
Not thrilled with Fitzpatrick nod to start. Make me think it’s just the same old business. I hope it’s for a short time only, and then Rosen gets to play.
you play to WIN THE GAME,you play to WIN THE GAME,you play to WIN THE GAME,
You mean because all Fitzparick has done in his career is win? Must be why he’s 50-75 in his career.
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/dolphins-reportedly-get-monstrous-trade-offer-from-texans-that-includes-jadeveon-clowney-and-first-round-pick/amp/
Wow
Dolphins want more…lol
That’s what we call the fuck you price. You get them when we really don’t want to sell, but you make an offer anyway. So we throw out a ridiculous price that you shouldn’t pay, but if you’re stupid enough to pay it, fuck you.
left tackles are hard to come by, there’s not too many of them walking the earth. Clowneys hold out may drive the price up and no one on this team should be un-tradeable.
i would think clowney will sign the tender soon to avoid losing a pay check, as soon as that happens we may see this go thru.
get their #1 and maybe a 2 or the next years 1…?
we would have 2 #1s and 3 #2s in the draft next year.
the thing is this team seems far from contending right now so why wouldn’t you pull the trigger on that deal?
Getting cut normally sucks, but the guys we let loose are then gonna have to either figure out how to get out of South Florida (flights should be real booked up and roads crammed) or wait out Darian.
Fitz must give them the best chance to win, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Fitz go the whole season as the starter and we carry 3 QBs on the roster, next year looks like Rosens the starter and Rudock his back-up.
Rudock looks damn good and he may get poached on the PS
I’m predicting (like a lot of other folks) that they ride Fitz into the week 5 bye and then give Rosen his first Dolphins start week after. And that would be the Fest.
i doubt there’s a timetable on Rosens shot, if fitz struggles they may go to rosen other than barring injury fitz is the man.
it looks as if Walton is the #3 RB as he’s had the most preseason action. Laird may be the 4th judging from last nights game in the order they were used, looks like Gaskin will not make the 53
Gaskins has looked pretty good imo, he runs with purpose. I also think he is a sold receiver out of the backfield. Laird i really like too. They might try to PS one of the two, but to me Walton is the outside looking in guy, not those two.
Im still not sure they dont trade Drake and keep Walton too. Drake is not someone i want to see traded but his talent makes him a worthwhile trade bait. I could really see that happening before the cuts.

Its going to be a short time Mikey, put your worry panties back int he drawer.
don’t think so
I cant see any scenario that doesnt have Rosen in there by game 5 at least.
trying to find out if rosen is the man so we can draft tua next year is why i think most of you want rosen to start, i just don’t think it works that way.
this coach and the players are concerned about one thing, win on sunday. they do not have next years draft in mind and they probably already know if rosen is the future in miami.
Its not why i see it that way, the reason i see it that way is i think that letting Rosen continue to grow a few weeks into the season is good for his development. I think its the smart move for a guy you feel is a franchise player.
Oh nm, you are talking to the start right aways, im not one of those. Im a sit behind until the time is right guy. I still think he comes in after a few games, i dont think they were so far apart in their readiness that it wouldnt take just a few games to get him ready.
you don’t change qbs midseason unless there’s a call for it, timing is essential and the difference in timing between the two will offset the offense by making the change.
you just don’t do that shit unless necessary and what would make that vital is either fitz imploding or getting hurt, other than that it’s fitz job. IMO
IMO Tunsil isnt going anywhere, but i will say that there is some logic in traging Tunsil with what looks like a really deep OT draft next year. I cant see giving up a proven commodity, and a guy with ELITE footwork (something thats rare in a lot of the OL prospects) for almost any amount. Still if they were to fleece a 1st and a 2nd, or a 1st and a next year 1st. That would be hard to pass up for almost anyone.
D… i’m just going by the order in which the RBs have played during preseason. if you look at that you will see that other than ballage and drake walton has had the most activity and has been the first guy off the bench behind those two.
judging gaskin is difficult when he’s performing against the scrubbs, he has been the last guy in for a while due to lairds explosion.
not sure if walton gets suspended but if not he looks to be #3
The only thing i can say about Walton making the cut is, is that he isn’t stash-able and the others are. I just dont think he has shown enough to really bring anything to the team that we dont have in the younger backs. If thats the case always go with younger so you can start bringing them up right. I think for Walton to stay, Drake has to be going somewhere else.
you may be right, like i said i’m just reading the tea leaves of the actions by flores and so far walton has been the first guy behind the 2 locks.
Cubs finally learning to win on the road. Oh wait, it was the Mets. Never mind. 😉 Now I need the Big Red Machine to come though for me this weekend.
Rob – I think Rosen looks better than Fitz, he’s got more talent, certainly a lot more arm talent. I don’t see any advantage to having Fitz start and I don’t think he’s a winning QB either. Being on 8 teams tells a story, and the fact that he’s the only QB to start for 8 different teams tells another. He’s never been the answer at any stop, he’s wildly inconsistent, and I expect we’ll see much of the same here. He’s also been picked up by teams with poor QB situations, which inevitably leads to him starting. I wish they had more faith in Rosen. We’ll see how it ends up
evidently flores disagrees with you…..in fitz’s defense the teams that he’s played for have one thing in common, they suck! and the fact that he was even able to win the starting job on those teams should go to his credit.
The QB’s have sucked that he started ahead of too, so . . . How about finding out if the guy you just traded a 2nd RD pick for sucks or not also?
The way I see it is it’s the “easy” decision. Teams in all sports do that, they go with the veteran and say he’s more experienced blah blah blah. Hey, if the Mets left Pete Alonso off the roster this year, what would have happened there?
https://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/20190830/schad-miami-dolphinsrsquo-brian-flores-makes-right-call-with-ryan-fitzpatrick-mdash-for-now?rssfeed=true
I think this makes a ton of sense on the Rosen sitting argument. Rosen did poorly last year and sitting for a few games can only get him more ready. The guy never read a LB before he got here so he needs a lot of practice. He’s extremely talented and I agree he will probably start after the break. I don’t think it’s terrible that Fitz faces that daunting first 4 at all. Our OL is still a mess and if Rosen is the answer? Then why get him hurt? People are slobbering on Luck but then want Rosen to face similar problems? Give him a few games and then cut him loose after the OL gels just a bit more.
Facing a probably terrible Skins team after 6 more weeks of practice sounds better than the grinder of Baltimore 6 weeks earlier.

So take out the at a bar part an leave at real good guy who is fun and talkative. Just trying to give you props man.
—————-
I thank you for that, buddy. I hope you realize I feel the same way about you, Stanger. 🙂
I see Walton as a guy they may dangle as trade bait, and that’s why he was used so much last night. Keep Laird the rest are just guys.
I’d like to see him spend more time on football as our starting QB!
He’ll get his chance soon enough, Bro. I agree with others that he’ll be our starter after the bye-week.
I guess that’s OK, but sometimes you show a little confidence in a guy it can go far. If they do as you say and insert him after the BYE, then it’s still kind of like OK, we’re past the rough patch, let’s see if you can handle this now rather than from the start handing him the reins and saying “You’re the man!”. It’s really not the same.
Mike E,
Gil Brandt is taking live questions right now. You should get on your Twitter and ask him something.
Set the tone for the season by beating Baltimore.
Or throwing 4 INT’s

I’m sure they already know what they have in Rosen, nothing wrong with him sitting a year holding a clipboard, maybe next year Rosen will be the starter and Rudock his back-up.
I’m pretty sure if Rosen sits this year we’re drafting another QB, probably RD 1
No way, that would only happen if he played and we found out he sucks, if he sits a year he hasn’t had the chance and with first round picks so valuable i don’t think they burn one on a QB.
I’m pretty sure Walton will be hammered by Goodell, maybe 4 games??
stills….parker…wilson…grant & williams look like locks and we may only carry 5 wrs, i thought ford and butler played great though…maybe one of them sticks
Fitz looks like more physical than Rosen, the way he knocked down that buc!
ORob,
What do ya think… kick the tires on Teez Tabor?
never know, i’m sure they will churn the bottom of the roster

Oh no… RIP, Jim Langer.
Sad – RIP Jim!
God Bless Langer and his family. ’72 team is like my great aunts and uncles were at one point. The call came and it was like whose funeral?
Kinda young? RIP
Rob – Explain to me the “Know what they have in Rosen” thing? They know he can’t beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick but he will be our starter next year? Why?????
They know what they have because they have a birds eye view of him every day in practice unlike us who are merely speculating. he made the team as the back-up and Rudock looks great!
Flores made the decision to start Fitz, I doubt that’s a knock on Rosen, Fitz is a seasoned vet.
the thing is Fitz’s contract guarantees him 7 mil, and it will be a dead number of 1.5 in 2020. i think that may suggest that Rosen will be the man at that time but it is just speculation on my part
Drafting a QB in the first round of the 2020 draft no matter where he’s selected is still a crap shoot. maybe a 50% chance that he’ll be worth a damn.
Mike, if i were to come in that office of where you had your interview in an armani suit not knowing a damn thing about glasses and competed against you in your monkey suit who do you think would get the job?
I know you would get the job Rob, no doubt in my mind!
I doubt that, you are the seasoned vet (Fitz) and i’m Rosen. inexperienced
So Mike is older than dirt, wears monkey suits…what else do we know about him?
I only wear money suits in deference to one of my favorite bloggers, Kong.
Bengals cut Lippett
Probably never the same after that knee injury
There was an NT i kinda liked in the draft for us, late round prospect Stevie Tu’ikolovatu that got cut as well. Jorad Ta’amu cut by The Texans, some here liked him as a QB prospect.

Im a UF homer, but he was great in College, but he may ned a positions swap. He would be one of those guys who could flex between S and CB.
Dorian is up to Cat 3. What a pain in my ass.
Stay SAFE, my man.
Thanks — I will be. My building was built after the new codes came in. So will live through whatever comes….. only Q is what is around outside it after.
Mando always has the best in Davie scoop.
Danny Isidora looks like a depth guy, but who knows on this OL.
Lol. A “report” claims players “would revolt” if Tunsil is traded? How, exactly, does that work? Refuse to play? Skip practices or meetings? Come on. I’ve never heard such a stupid comment in my life. Who on this offense even has enough skins on the wall to even claim something like that? Besides, if this FO makes decisions based on what players think of them or what they might do then they are rucked already and should just go away. What a bunch of crap.
M13,
Interesting. Word up here was the Vikes were gonna cut Isidora.
That may be the case, most the times trades like that are so they get first dibs instead of having to wait through waivers and then bid against others.
Danny Isadora, depth move, i dont think it changes anything about our starters.
